Welcome to the DPP, everyone! Sorry for the delayed start to the week, but to kick it off, here is a question that all of Shipper Nation has an answer to, and ABSOLUTELY NEEDS TO SHARE, because we all need to hear it: when did you first start shipping pilots?

(for that matter, how did you end up watching BSG in the first place, and did any of you have any idea about pilots beforehand? Because I certainly didn't.)

So please, do take a moment out and tell us how you fell for pilots in the first place, whether it began here:

or before that (see the moment in my icon, or the first brig scene), or even much, much later - maybe one or both pilots had to do a bit of work to win your heart and make a shipper of you? Or maybe fanon - via fic, vids, squee and meta - helped along the way?

Tell us in as much or as little detail as you like, complete with thoughts at the time - no story is too trivial or too silly to share!

PS: Also, the DPP schedule from next week onwards is wide open and needs people to head it up, please do sign up for one if you can!

But really, the best part of any con is the celebrity panels - getting to hear from the source.

What's your favorite bit of info that came out at con? Favorite fan question?

Take the rest of today and all of tomorrow and post any con vids you want!

Welcome to this week's DPP, everyone!

I'm going to kick this off with something we haven't had at all this year (WAY too long if you ask me), i.e.

THE FRIENDING MEME!!!!!!!!

I've noticed some new faces among the comments in the last few months, so whether you're new to the comm or a returning friendly, consider this the Shipper Nation Roll Call aka our very own Bat-Signal and show yourself - we want to get to know you all (or know you all over again)!

Lots of nosy questions and chances to ramble about pilots, this way! )

[identity profile] howlinchickhowl.livejournal.com
Dear pilots fans. It is Friday. And that means an excuse to be lazy. So no discussions, no games, no thinky thoughts or angsty speculation. Friday is about just one thing.

But what does sandwich meat have to do with anything? )

Go forth nuggets and find me pretties!

Fat Lee salutes you!
[identity profile] winegums.livejournal.com
I've put everyone through the wringer with three posts in a row forcing y'all to contemplate terrible, saddening things (no pilots, the end of pilots, and things we'd like to change), and I didn't really mean this DPP to be all doom and gloom.

So for a change, I thought today's post should be about celebrating and appreciating everything about this show, our pairing, our fandom, and even your life! that make us smile. Simply put,

IF IT GIVES YOU JOY, THEN TELL US ABOUT IT!

It can be as big or small or irrational as you like, and I will start with my own:

1. The position of Lee's hand in this shot:

2. The wing-waggles of their Viper and Raider when she flies herself off the red moon in You Can't Go Home Again.

3. This fic. It makes me SMILE SO HARD.

4. A conversation with an oldtime (c. 2003) pilotshipper who gave me many, MANY warm fuzzies yesterday (you know who you are, bb!)

and here's the rest of my list... )
[identity profile] winegums.livejournal.com
Today, March 20th, marks exactly three years since the airdate of Daybreak, Part 2, which ended both BSG and pilots canon story by leaving Shipper Nation in absolute ruin, devastation and disappointment.

Many of us who are here today joined the fandom later and faced the awful truth (NO MORE PILOTS, KARA WENT POOF) in our own turn, but to all of you - and especially to those fangirls who were first on the firing line, three years ago, with no warning of what was about to happen - how did you get through it (whether it was with a fifth of whisky or a lot of fic, tell!)? And what do you feel about it now? Have your opinions changed at all? Have any of you found a way to live with it? Let out ALL YOUR FEELINGS in the comments below, and don't hold back!

(or alternatively, celebrate the most amazing fictional couple we've ever known, whose cheat of a non-ending can never take away from their epic, beautiful, life-changing love)

Sorry for the angsty topic, but this day demands it. And if anyone wants to contemplate BSG with no pilots, feel free to hop into yesterday's discussion! :(
[identity profile] kl-shipper1.livejournal.com
We're all shippers because we share a love of Kara and Lee together, for our own individual reasons. But my question for you all today is why are we here? More specifically, what made each and every one of us seek out a fandom and community, instead of just loving Kara/Lee while you were watching and ending it at that?

Why did some of us choose to write fic online about pilots instead of talking/ranting about the things you hated to a friend or family member who watched BSG?

What brought you to [livejournal.com profile] no_takebacks?

(Also, remember Wednesday's game and how I said there was going to be a winner and prize? Well, the winner was [livejournal.com profile] word_vomity, so it would be great if she could send some prompts (like the ones at [livejournal.com profile] the_applecart) and maybe some desired scenes for icons.)

In about 30 minutes we'll start our weekly rewatch. This is just our 3rd week but in other occasions we had a good time and I hope that this time we'll be at least as good.
So, get your DVDs, Blu-Rays, prepare your links (or what ever other thing that you have to do) because

This might not be a shippy episode but still

See you on the other side )

To all members of the shipper nation that were not able to watch it last night or want to enjoy that experience again - in about 6 hours (and some change) at precisely 2000 ZULU (ok, this time I hope I have it right not like last week, anyway that was supposed to be 8 PM GMT) we'll start the rewatch of episode 2, season 1 of Battlestar Galactica.  - Water

Hi everyone, I'm Claudia and I'll be with you this week. If last week DPPs and the rewatch are any indication, it seems 2012 has started well in our little corner of the world. That makes me truly happy. :)

Fic is a fundamental part of fandom.  More than thinky discussions and vids and manips and all those  other lovely activities  and games we all enjoy so much,  it’s the stories  that keep the flame alive. They fix what canon did wrong, they spell out what canon only implied, they fill in the blanks canon left behind, they go where canon would never dare go,  they throw canon out the window and create whole new universes where our beloved characters can do pretty much  anything.

Perhaps the buzz has dwindled, as I have sometimes heard people  regret. But what we may now lack in numbers we certainly make up for in talent and creativity. We, as a fandom,  are truly privileged to have so many amazingly talented storytellers  amongst us.  Some are not active anymore  but their creations still inspire and move us  ([livejournal.com profile] daphnaea , [livejournal.com profile] stars_like_dust,   just to name a couple).Like Starbuck, they won’t be forgotten. Some continue to keep our favorite characters and our ship alive with their unrelenting creativity  ([livejournal.com profile] sci_fi_shipper ,[livejournal.com profile] taragel, [livejournal.com profile] kag523 and so many others ). And let’s not forget the new voices out there. They have just arrived but have already left their mark ([livejournal.com profile] apodixis  and [livejournal.com profile] letterstonorah , for example).

We often rec their stories time and time again. As we should, of course.  Each and every one of them has a unique voice and , at least for me , it is impossible to pick a favorite. That’s not what today is about. Today is about praising and being thankful. These amazing writers are the heart and soul of fandom. Without them we wouldn’t be here.

So, as we begin a new week in a still brand new year, what I propose today is that we take a moment to thank them for their past creations, to cheer them on their present endeavors and to help energize them for a new year of writing, creativity and pilot loving. How? Think of an unforgettable writer. Initiate a thread dedicated to said writer . Tell us why they are unforgettable and send them your love. (You don’t need to rec any of their stories, but if you feel the need to do so, nobody will complain. ;)

Have a wonderful week, everyone and let’s spread the love!!!!

For all the members of the shipper nation that didn't managed to participate on last night's rewatch or want to do it again - I extend an open invitation to out international rewatch of the miniseries, This will start at 0800 zulu - aka 9 pm CET and 3 pm EST.

We'll have - I hope - a lot of squeeing, sighing and general appreciation for the beginning of the phenomenon that changed all of our lives.

Since this is the first time for me doing this I managed to dig up my "bad driver" icon. BUT, I hope that you all will enjoy this and I'll not end up squeeing by myself.

I'll leave you with our beloved pilots:

and I promise that at least a couple of you are interested in doing this again I'll come up with better visual incentives for next time.
[identity profile] anamarya.livejournal.com
So, as our beloved [livejournal.com profile] taragel already let you know I'll host the international rewatch.
Upon long internal debates and after consulting the persons who responded YES in last weeks poll to the question relating to this I decided to have these rewatches as follows:

Dates: Saturdays - the episodes will correspond to the main program.

Hour: starting at 8 pm GMT, which means 3 pm EST.

The main consideration in choosing Saturdays was the fact that in this way if somebody misses the original rewatch on Friday night at 8 pm EST will be able to participate in this one.

Until Friday I wait for your opinions, suggestions, etc. If nothing important happens until then I'll post a reminder Saturday morning - and I wait for the interested persons to enjoy together The Miniseries.

[identity profile] angelicalangie.livejournal.com
Yep, the insanity has hit the home stretch, and with this thought in mind I thought spare you any hard thinking.[Poll #1805537]

Thank you to all who took part!

See you tomorrow for your Christmas present!!!!

Remember, the posts are still open. If you're at a loose end this weekend then please come and play :)

Previously on DPP:
Monday: Dialogue - The play's the thing. Prompts are open, but no takers
Tuesday: Icons - There are some gorgeous pilots icons there for us all to share in, so please leave some love for the creators, and possibly make some of your own
Wednesday: Inner thoughts - What were they thinking?. Still some prompts open. Feel free to leave more prompts - or fill some. [livejournal.com profile] kdbleu has written a gorgeous ficlet here about Kara after EoJ/Rapture. Please stop by and leave her some love.
Thursday: Propaganda posters. There are some really brilliant ones, so please stop by and share in them. They're virtually guaranteed to make you smile :)
Friday: What's in the box? There are some absolutely fabulous drabbles here, so please stop by and read (and comment). There are also plenty of things still in the box, so dive in and play :D
Saturday: Advice - a couple of bits there that are well worth reading :)

Today's final DPP from me for this week is "It's what we do (but why?)". What drives you to create and/or view pilots stuff - fic, manips, icons etc? Are there any episodes/arcs that you feel especially driven to create around? Or look for stuff about?

Kara does it because she loves Lee, and he loves her ♥

Hope you have a great Sunday. You've been brilliant this week :) Your creativity always awes me :)
[identity profile] winegums.livejournal.com
I was planning a lazy Sunday post but some non-BSG-related browsing brought me to an April 7, 2003 piece of news about casting for the miniseries, which went as follows:

Katee Sackhoff …. Kara Thrace, callsign ‘Starbuck’
Ronny Cox …. William “Husker” Adama
Mary McDonnell …. Laura Roslin
Michael Shanks …. Lee “Apollo” Adama

Just to be clear, this linked pic is Michael Shanks (aka Daniel Jackson from Stargate: SG-1).

And this, instead (as we all know, and to my eternal gratitude) is who ended up playing Captain Lee "Apollo" Adama:

We've discussed the possibility of pilots being played by people other than Jamie and Katee before, but I never knew just how close it was to being a done deal and us never getting to see Jamie as Lee.

If he hadn't got the part, chances are I (and several others among us) would never have shipped pilots and we'd probably have been spared the pain that came with it. We'd also never have got the supernova-level chemistry between Jamie and Katee that made us fall in love with them to begin with, not to mention the countless eyefraks, camaraderie and years worth of squee. We also probably wouldn't have this comm and each other.

So this Sunday, let's just celebrate and be grateful for the existence of pilots as we know and love them, and here's a pic for the purpose (even after a near-death experience and covered in broken glass, they look so post-coital, don't they?)

PS: The weekend reccing post is still open.....if you liked anything piloty lately, tell us about it!
[identity profile] howlinchickhowl.livejournal.com
Evening ladies and fanfolks! It's FINALLY Saturday, which means that it's PARTY DAY! WOOP!

So, bring your joy, your squee, your gifs, your pretty pictures, your giant sparkly text, ANYTHING YOU WANT! It's a free-for-all yo', anything goes.

Now, I know free-for-alls can be daunting, you never know where to start, what to say, how to be cool in the face of so much CHOICE! So, I'll start you off and we'll see where the night takes us.

If you're around and up for bingo, check in at the BINGO comment below so I know how many people are around. My plan is to have two games, bingo and reverse bingo, so even if you're not around for the first game, you'll hopefully get to play the second, and there will also be some mini games along the way :)

So the really big question, guys, when all's said and done, is this... )
[identity profile] anamarya.livejournal.com
ok, i admit it. i changed the plan, AGAIN.

I had planed on a subject perfect for Kara's "and to bring this little game to an end".

BUT, and it's a big but, for me this com is not only about Lee and Kara, it's about the people involved in all these daily disscussions. and some of those people are not having such a good end of the summer right now. there were some moment when the earth shaked and not in a good way and now some other people are almost making an aquintance with a not such a lovely lady whose name start with an "I".

so, even if i still hope that some of you might drop by and post at least in yesterdays thread about our moods, what I propose for today is to take a little moment and think about those people that are having problems right now. that brings us to something far more serrious than the original plan but I have faith in the shipper nation to be supportive to all of those in need right now.
[identity profile] anamarya.livejournal.com
As per usual I changed my mind almost at the last minute about today’s topic. I was going to ask the shipper nation about some stuff and I ended up with this idea instead. I think it’s safe to “blame” the news about Jamie’s new guess-star appearance for this.

We talked a while back about Academy!fic so even if I don’t take them out this discussion I suggest that we focus on other stuff. So, my proposal fro today's topic is this:

Let’s imagine our beloved and messy pilots at school. Not at the Fleet Academy but some other place. We all know that Lee has some good physics knowledge and that Kara likes to repair/build stuff so my first suggestion would be: Technical School. Then again, this would be AU so...

Also, even if/mainly because we are used in fic with them as students, I’d like to know your opinion on them as Profs.

You can throw ideas, prompts, write something if your muse is in the mood, whatever you like.
