Tonight is the rewatch of the Miniseries, we'll start right around 9pm, so don't be late.

It's all about remembering when we first started falling in love with this great series and also Lee and Kara, Apollo and Starbuck.

We can chat right in this thread, or we can chat on Twitter, whatever everyone prefers.

Should be lots of fun haven't seen the miniseries in a few years.

We are quickly coming up on the 10th Anniversary of the Mini Series (Can you believe it?). It originally aired on December 8th and 9th in 2003 on Syfy.

I was just thinking maybe we could do a rewatch of the Miniseries right on the day of the anniversary? Falls on a Sunday night, Monday night, so that may be feasible.

Just floating this out there to see if there is any interest on here, if so then we could nail down the details.

Minseries was awesome, and I think it's 10th anniversary should be remembered.

It just has to be said - baby pilots are really, REALLY adorable and I can't even imagine how they find it possible to resist each other. Also, this should probably be a commemorative post for our first encounter with the glory that is pilots as well as our first-ever sighting of the Bamceps - hope everyone's had a good weekend so far!

more pics this way! )

We love our pilots, and we love them very much indeed. But what did we think of them, when we hadn't yet seen them together onscreen? Did that change, once we had?

It's been observed, elsewhere in the fandom (over at [livejournal.com profile] workerbee73's, in fact) that Kara and Lee in their very first scenes come off as somewhat bratty and abrasive, and more than a little annoying.

But when they are together onscreen, making sarcastic remarks at each other and eyefrakking and exuding enough UST to power a small nuclear reactor in the first brig scene, to many people that is the moment when we first begin to like them unreservedly - or at least a whole lot more than when we already did - and if not then, seeing them together onscreen certainly makes us love them more with time. So what did you think of them alone and together, Shipper Nation?

I'll go first, with an edited version of my thoughts about pilots during my first watch of the miniseries - chip in with your own in the comments:

Oh hey girl, you are kind of an asshole, and do you really like getting in trouble so much? But I like your swagger, and think I am starting to develop some serious girl crush on you. Even if you would probably kick my ass and laugh at me for admitting to that.

You sound like a brat, but I think it is your daddy issues making you act out (and I can sympathise). Also, you are very, very pretty.

You two have some serious tension going on, and I call it - you are going to hook up at some point (also, nice arms, Lee! Who knew that was under your flight suit..). But somehow, you seem less like assholes when you are together. And I refuse to ship you. This show is yanking my chain, and I am too savvy to ship you.

My presence here should indicate how well that worked, but I'm still wondering what everyone else here thought of our pilots when they were each introduced to us separately, and if seeing them together changed the way you saw their characters? Tell us all about it!

Also, anyone who hasn't done so already should check out The Limit, by [livejournal.com profile] word_vomity and (ETA) Burns and Bruises by [livejournal.com profile] useyourlove, the fruit of yesterday's DPP. That and the DPP before it are still open for discussion and ficcing, if anyone feels like it!

We were talking a bit in yesterday's thread about the awesomeness that is Kara and Lee's connection in the mini. Today, it being Friday and all I want to do a structured free-for-all - what would you do if the Mini were all we had gotten?

What fic would you write? Where would YOU bring BSG and our lovely pilots? Would you still ship them so hard? Would you take their story in different directions with such a clean slate? Go wild! Fic, art, discussion, recs, theories, fantasies -- let it all out! A toast, to possibility:

Hi, shippers!

Just wanted to mention that the site I work for, HeroesandHeartbreakers.com (H&H), has been talking lots of BSG (and thus Kara/Lee!) over the last few days due to the BBC America premiere of the mini.

We've covered the Secretly British ad (which for some reason involved talk of JB's lovely ass in the comments) and trailers. And just today we put up a discussion post called Battlestar Galactica: A Shipping Genesis about part 1 of the mini from the POVs of a newbie (aka the H&H community manager, Megan) and a superfan (me! Heather aka redline_). If you're up to it, we'd welcome more points of view in the comments! We're talking first impressions of the show itself, the characters, and the relationships. I talk a lot about Starbuck and Apollo because they pretty much ARE the show for me.

We'd love to hear your thoughts!

After watching the mini Monday night for the shipper re-watch, I got the urge to go back and reread (for the millionth time, yes—your point? ;) ) some of the first great Kara/Lee fics I devoured found in the BSG fandom, and especially those set before or during the mini. Just to connect again with that rush of excitement I felt upon discovering this series and its fic. Since I figure many of you might be eager to do the same, I put together a few recs set either pre-mini or during the mini itself. (Yes, I did include Academy fic because, well, we only really found out it was AU in the final months of the show and because so many of them are just so good that you want them to be canon, so.)

I had such fun putting these together that I'm thinking I'll try (try!) to put a similar list together each week, though obviously some eps spurred more fic than others (has anyone ever even written K/L set during "Water," for instance? Idek.). Would anyone besides me be interested in something as specific as this in terms of recs? Do let me know what you think!

Also, feel free to add more recs to this list in the comments. There are so many amazing stories out there (old and new to the fandom) I'd never be able to list them all here, so I'd love to hear what some of your favorite pre-mini and miniseries fics are.

I made a piscpam of a scene from the Miniseries some time ago (you've probably already seen it), but [livejournal.com profile] cosetteferaud told me to post it again, just in case anyone would like to revisit it. ;)

The dove descending breaks the air
With flame of incandescent terror
Of which the tongues declare
The one discharge from sin and error.
The only hope, or else despair
Lies in the choice of pyre or pyre-
To be redeemed from fire by fire.

Who then devised the torment? Love.
Love is the unfamiliar Name
Behind the hands that wove
The intolerable shirt of flame
Which human power cannot remove.
    We only live, only suspire
Consumed by either fire or fire.

T.S. Eliot, The Four Quartets, Little Gidding, IV

It is a day of endings, and in ending, we find the beginning. An opportunity for destruction, an opportunity for rebuilding. Tear down and burn off what doesn't work—reduce to a manageable number, a manageable size to restructure humanity for purposes of blending with the Other (although the Other doesn't know it yet, and the humans would be none too happy if they figured it out this soon, but everything in it's own good time, right?)

The stage is set, the play's just begun.

Fire or fire. )

Welcome everyone! First of all, thanks very much for joining this comm and the rewatch! Hope you will enjoy the experience and all the piloty goodness ahead of us! Since this is the official launching of the rewatch, todayand exceptionallywe'll post two entries. Mine is a picspammyand a mishmash of crack and metaapproach to the miniseries, and Bee will be doing one of her gorgeous and patented meta-poetry-fics. So fasten your seatbelts... And enjoy! ;)

Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] _snitchbitch  for the beautiful screencaps

There was upon a time a hotshot pilot and her CAG... )
