Okay, this is a really big secret I've been keeping the past couple years, so I'll understand if y'all are surprised by this new revelation. I mean, you would never guess this by just straight-up watching.

You ready? Alright, here it is:

Lee loves Kara.

I KNOW, aren't you shocked? It's HUGE. I'm amazed we didn't pick up on it during the show's run.

Maybe it isn't love, maybe it's indigestion - gas makes peeps do weird things. Didn't you think Lee's abs looked bloated in some of those nakey scenes? Yup, I think it was all that algae goop.

So I have a random question, if anyone's interested. It's about the character dynamics right around the Pegasus-Resurrection Ship story arc. Why do you think Admiral Cain reacted so differently to Lee and Kara when it came to their shared insubordination? After having read Bill's logs she seemed equally disdainful of both of them (though perhaps a bit sharper about Lee, given her assumptions about nepotism). But once she sees the Blackbird footage, she promotes the insubordinate pilot who got it and busts the insubordinate superior officer who told her to get it. Why? Is this a genuine emotional and/or tactical assessment of the two people involved, or do you think it's a calculated divide-and-conquer move? Or is it a little bit of both?

Does she expect Lee to be unable to accept working under Kara's command? She seems to react very well to Kara when she meets her in person, and has clearly reread her files to find some common ground she can use to win her over (the Caprica rescue mission). As far as I can tell she never meets Lee in any personal sense, nor has any desire to. She's not trying to win him over, she apparently doesn't see anything worthwhile in him. Why is that, do you think?

Also, I kind of wish we had seen a little bit more of Lee as a subordinate officer to Kara, because I think that would have been very interesting to watch. Do you think they would have worked well that way? Or do you think it would have disrupted the balance of their professional and/or interpersonal relationship?

They talked about those familial bonds often while bonding over peanuts and/or walnuts. It was very homey, but Kara was never invited.

Nah, it can't have been the algae. I picked up on the whole thing before the algae storyline was shown (like, around the first hour mark of the miniseries) so it couldn't have been that.

And Kara was too busy getting the racks ready for her and Lee to frak in to join in on the family bonding time. And the only reason Lee spared time for family bonding was to throw Papadama off his and Kara's trail. SO THERE.

Yeah, that's what it looked like on the surface, but don't you think it's a little too obvious? I mean, she so clearly preferred Anders to Lee in every episode where they were together -- I think the writers were reverse psychologizing us. It's like, what Kara really wants is the opposite of what she acts like she wants. You know?

I think quite literally Kara's photos blew her away. She has a line, "Thrace. She took off and did the whole recon mission alone. My gods, look at these shots, Jack. She put her nose right up their backsides and they never even knew it."

I guess after that she finds out about Lee, but Cain is definitely someone who responds more to flashy, fearless actions (and I could see her being less impressed by the quiet behind-the-scenes plotting). Plus, Lee is Adama's son. Kara may be close to him but she's not a direct relative. I'm not sure how much of that relationship Cain could know about. I'm sure divide-and-conquer would be appealing as a motive too but I'd think that's lower on the list.

I do think also that Cain responds more to women in all avenues of her life. Maybe there was some latent attraction there too, (because who doesn't want to frak starbuck?) but more than that, we see her in mentor-ish mode with Shaw, with Gina to a degree, with Kara. I think she just responds to women and wants to engage with women more. She doesn't seem to have much use for the men she deals with.

ETA: I remember being surprised that Lee was a little pissy about "answering to one of his pilots" or whatever. We know he has no issues with a woman leading the way, or even letting Kara lead the way, so I think he would've probably been okay with it after he got over his initial annoyance/disappointment.
