DPP: Friending Meme!
Aug. 4th, 2010 08:24 amAlright you lot, for today I have something a little different. The thing is, some of us remember fandom before this comm, and some joined just after the finale, and some have only just discovered the show...and just about every time I read the comments on this site I find new and unfamiliar faces (by faces, I of course mean usernames). So I propose...(drumroll please)...a friending meme!
Now, I've just taught myself how to do this code box thing so let's hope it works. Anyway, you can copy and paste the following code into your comments.
I valiantly tried to do one of those code box things but the html was being very, very difficult and I gave up. You guys can just copy and paste from here. Remember that each line is, of course, optional. Now go, talk to people, and be merry!

What got you into BSG/Kara&Lee? I got into the show late-- I had friends who watched it when it first came out, but I didn't actually see an episode until 4.0 had just finished airing. We caught the miniseries and it was love at first sight-- for the show, for Kara and for Lee and for Kara and Lee-- and we marathoned to catch up by the time 4.5 rolled around. As much as I loved those two, though, I hung out in the A/R side of fandom for the first part of my BSG experience-- and really all through 4.5-- because there were already folks on my flist who were in that side of fandom, and that was really the only side of fandom I was familiar with for a long time. But then I found y'all, thanks to
Favorite character(s): Kara, Lee, and Gaius Baltar. (I think it's James Callis and his fabulous facial expressions. They're hilarious.
Favorite episode: The miniseries. Hands down.
Favorite scene: Oh, goodness. Too many to choose from.
Other fandoms:I don't really play around in other fandoms much. I do love me some Stargate Atlantis, and I have about half a dozen unfinished fics for that fandom, but I've only ever posted one. Ditto for: Chuck, Bones, Blake's 7, Corner Gas, the Discworld books, Star Trek, Firefly, BtVS, and last but never least, Star Wars, my fannish love since I was four years old.
What do you post on your journal? the occasional picspam, fic, vids, silly macros, rants and raves related to the life of an over-worked law student, snippets of my hilarious life with
If you could meet any person (dead, alive, real, fictional) who would you choose? Oh, Lords. I have enough trouble with this one when it doesn't include fictional people. Um, today's answer? Okay, the answer at 1:31 PM CST today, anyway? Is Mal Reynolds. Look down, back up. Now the answer is Lee Adama. Look again. This answer is now diamonds. (It's like the running gag of the week. Lol.)

Date: 2010-08-05 04:00 am (UTC)First off, you've mentioned cake at some point to me, so the friendsfic begins with a very young and naive Erin heading to Paris to learn the ancient art of pastry-making from a very meticulous and frustrating French chef named Jean-Jacques Robillard. This is one of the formative moments in your life, as you discover than not only are you truly gifted when it comes to creating delectable delights, you are also particularly skilled with photography. You spend your year in France taking classes at the Ecole Internationale de Patisserie during the weekdays and spending your weekends and evenings biking around the cobbled lanes which surround Paris, an old Pentax camera in hand and several rolls of black and white film in your pocket, photographing the many hidden gems of the area as well as elderly women wearing black kerchiefs and young fresh-faced children. These images are kept in an old shoebox until you return home; no sense of what they one day will become.
When you return to the States, you cash in your remaining RRSPs in order to start a small restaurant that serves fine French cuisine with a Cajun flair. (Of course you know the history of the area, and realize that Cajun is based in Acadia... so is actually French, only a few generations removed). During this time you meet your spouse, and the two of you settle in a beautiful three story brick, walk-up in the downtown core. Your home is warm and inviting and sports a rooftop garden where the two of you sit up there in the evenings, watching the sunset and sipping espresso.
Years later, a friend who is also a professor from the university is at dinner with you and mentions an upcoming visit to France. You dutifully pull out the shoebox. He falls silent, entranced by your photographs. Overwhelmed and awed. Three months later, you have your first show as a photographer at his Art gallery. Two years after that, the show is at the Tate, in London.
