DPP: In the beginning...

Good morning, Shipper Nation.  Welcome to day two of my reign of terror the land of rainbows and kittens.  I have one question for you:


How did those crazy kids meet?

Disregard the lame-ass flashbacks in Daybreak for a moment.  I know that EVERY SINGLE ONE OF YOU has their own version in their head of how Kara and Lee met.  So guess what, peeps?  I want to hear it.
 
Was it funny? Angsty? Silly? Did sparks fly? Was it the traditional rom-com meetcute or a full-out confrontational exchange? Did the earth move and angles weep?  Did they know each other as kids?  Meet at the Academy?  Attend band camp together?


Whatever it is, I need to know, so spill, m'kay?  *g*

NOTE:  For purposes of this discussion, I'm asking you to forget about the DB flashbacks and go back and remember what your theory was before we were bombarded with all that.  (Not just because of the controversial table scene but because the meeting and subsequent early interactions of K/L deserve their OWN FRAKKING MINISERIES-- NOT FIVE MINUTES IN A HASTILY-WRITTEN FINALE.)

No way. His lips are way to thin for that emabochure. If it was brass, it would have to be trumpet or french horn.

I just can't see him playing any woodwinds. No flute, no clarinet, and he's just not laid back enough to play sax.

Percussion? Also no. To loud and disruptive.

So I think were back to brass. But if I had to choose between trumpet and french horn, I think we have to take the trumpet out of the running. Too brash, too loud.

That settles it. He played french horn.

Drum major could have been a possibility, but I just can't see him rocking a cape.

My personal prefernce would be strings-- but this is symphonic band were talking about.

Yeah, I think I'm going symphonic and saying that Lee would be a Cellist. Maybe he could play violin or viola, but he certainly didn't play the fiddle. **shakes head** (And yes, I know it's the same instrument as the violin, but the style is just so NOT Leland.)

Anyways. If we're sticking with marching band, I'd have to that it would be the French Horn. Or maybe Trombone. Maybe. But probably not.

Ha!! Yes, Kara completely played trumpet. *remembers little liz playing flute back in the day when i was younger and more innocent and less Kara-like...and having to deal with all the crazy trumpeters that sat behind us* Ahem, back to the topic at hand.

Perhaps if Kara played trumpet and Lee was doing his french horn thing, they could've had the same rivalry. If Kara was a brass section leader and Lee was drum major, she would have always been on his ass telling him how to do things "better".

I have to ultimately agree with Tara though. I can't see either of them at band camp as much as I can see them at debate camp or wilderness survival camp or maybe even some frakked up Caprican version of a debutante ball where neither really fit in at all and they end up on a balcony launching water balloons at their finely dressed and oh-so-serious acquaintances.

But, but, but... Lee was one of their finely dressed and oh-so-serious acquaintances! I expect Kara was very precisely launching the water balloons at Lee. Possibly at his feet, so that his whole outfit wasn't soaked, just the bottoms of his pants. Enough to make him uncomfortable, but not enough to give him an excuse to go get changed.

Yep, you're right. Lee probably wasn't ready to finger paint yet at that point. I am amending my statement to say that Kara completely didn't fit in while Lee tried to fit in for family/appearance's sake. I expect Lee was flattered by Kara's attention, even if it was in the form of water balloons. I'm sure he'd never have admitted it though and most likely gave her his exasperated stink eye look.
