Daily Pilots Post: A Captain in the Hand is Worth....

The Captain's Hand is one of my favorite episodes of BSG because it's primarily about pilots and it runs the gamut of emotions. We get all different varieties of pilots including:

So what's your take on Captain's Hand? Did Kara and Lee really not talk/see each other for a whole month leading up to this episode? Why not? What do you think was really going on?

What do you think of Lee's summary that he was pissed because she gets away with things and he doesn't?

Do you firmly believe they would have been frakking five minutes after this episode ended because that hug was not a "JUST FRIENDS" kind of hug? Huh, huh, do ya, do ya? ;)

I guess when you click in a K/L 'shipper com and the first thing you see is pictures of Lee and Dee in bed it waves the red flag, especially considering the chances of getting Kara and Sam in bed (simply to show just how hot Kara is) will never happen.

How do you even know? Is your crystal ball that good? Look I don't know whose running the comm the week that UB happens (esp. since we might skip eps, that part's unclear) but I think they've duly noted it that you want to see the Kara/Sam sex scene.

The pics I chose, you can barely even see Dee in, so I think you're overreacting just a tad.


I should've went with my second instinct which was to click on by and find something else to do.

My actual response is no I don't. I don't think it would generate positive and happy shippy feelings. So I guess I was trying to make the point that your pic choice was catering to Lee fans who think he's hot (which I'm not one of) rather than K/L shippers (of which I am). I'm just not afraid to speak up about it and thought it was a valid point to make. But, whatever, it's not life or death or anything.

You know what? I'm just trying to create a nice place for fandom here. Most people who ship a couple like both partners in it, maybe not to equal degrees but they do. So yes there are a lot of Lee fans here. I am one of them. And I think he's hot. And I wanted to see those shots again.

When it's your turn to steer the ship you can post pics you find hot. Oh wait. You haven't signed up to steer the ship have you?

It's a valid point to say you don't think he's hot and you don't like those pics. It's not a valid point to get all passive-aggressive and bitchy and offended in anticipation of how you just KNOW that people won't cater to your personal preferences. You don't know that. I would post half-naked pics of Kara dressing with Sam in the background. I wouldn't post pics of them kissing or having sex or whatever, just like I didn't do that with Dee/Lee here. Dee is hardly even in these pictures. They're not touching. She's a dot in the background.

I'm all for free speech and voicing your opinions, but you're the one who said maybe you should have moved on because it upset you. So yes, if it upsets you, you should move on. Because this is a place to be positive and happy about the ship.

If you can't be happy about pilots and you're just gonna slap at your fellow shippers for liking things that you don't, maybe this isn't the place for you.

Yeah, you've got me there. I really should've said nothing than voice my opinion. But can't you even see that there's a little bit of a double standard for what acceptable for Lee that isn't for Kara? Maybe you honestly can't, but it's glaring to me.

I won't say anymore, I can see you're upset which wasn't my intention. But you never mince your words and I didn't think I would have to mince mine. It's fine. It's done. And I have no intentions of quitting this com because I usually enjoy it.

As for not signing up to take on a week of posting, I actually really wanted to but was afraid of letting down the team with my currently busy schedule.

I didn't ask or expect you to mince words about Lee or Dee. I do ask and expect you not to slap at me, especially in a thread that I create that is intended to bring the happy.

As for double standards? I try not to lump everyone together in some big conspiracy or assume that EVERYONE feels a certain way. We all have different things that we like and different things that we don't. There are plenty of members of this comm who hate Dee, and there are those that hate Sam. Some people don't really like Kara much, some people don't like Lee much. But in a thread designed to celebrate the ship, I just want us to celebrate the ship as much as we can, you know? Discuss things, even when we have differences, yes, but get passive aggressive about other shippers' opinions and try to predict what they would and wouldn't do and stereotype... is not necessary IMO.

HATE THE SHIP/CHARACTER, NOT THE SHIPPER.

Ok, I've been uncharacteristically quiet today, mostly 'cause it was getting all intense and delving into subjects I either (a) don't really care about, or (b) don't care enough about to really put my two cents in, but

Really? I think that's a bit extreme. I love the ship. I love both persons involved in said ship, in all their lovely and tragic and flawed and fucked up ways. I think Lee is hot. I think Kara is hot. I think there can be images of either said person in the same room as someone not Kara or Lee and still be hot.

If you ain't drinking the episode kool-aid, then that's cool, but let's not lump everyone that appreciates the hotness into a Lee-lovin' Kara bashin' category.

That's all, I'm saying, m'kay?

I love Lee, but I wouldn't say I'm a Lee fan the way I am a Kara fan or a K/L shipper. Nonetheless, hot!Lee is hot.
