Nov. 5th, 2010 09:02 amGreetings and salutations, 'shipper nation! This is Amy, known on your internets as
ninjamonkey73, and I'm driving the DPP bus this week. Sit back and enjoy the ride...
Let's face it; this show has issues, and by extension, we have issues with it.

Pull up a couch and tell us what bothers you about the characters. storylines, universe. Think of today as a support group free-for-all.

PS....I hate tables.

Date: 2010-11-05 02:37 pm (UTC)Kara Thrace does not need Sam's "unconditional love"...she already has Lee's. On that same note, she has plenty to live for prior to meeting Sammy. (sorry, Helo, I love ya, but you got that one wrong in scar)
Starbuck = Top Gun. Except on the occasions when she lets Lee borrow the title. There is NO WAY that Kat would beat her score in the sim and deffo no way she would have killed Scar. (Bitch didn't even SEE Scar b/c she was too busy cracking on Kara...until our girl flipped around, found him, and GAVE Kat the kill.)
Maelstrom. Kara's "let me go" suicide/death. Finding "peace" through Leoben/not Leoben in order to be "ready to go"...I call bullshit on the whole damn arc. OOC!!!!! RDM, if you wanted shock value major character death, you could have killed yourself. We wouldn't have missed you. We certainly wouldn't have missed you as much as we miss Kara.
Kara Thrace is not an angel, pigeon, angel pigeon, or pigeon angel. She will not fit in a little archetypal box so why try to put her into one??
Lee would never send technology into the sun. WTF? If you want a character to suggest something completely idiotic disguised as a worthwhile comment, you have Gaius. Make him send shit into the sun.
There's more but the above seem to be the worst.
Oh, and TAB? Lee would've frakking followed Kara. There probably would have been punching. There might have been frakking. There certainly would have been crazy verbal sparring. Maybe our OTP could have figured out how to fulfill their destinies together. They are always greater than the sum of their parts when together.
Gah!!!

Date: 2010-11-05 03:22 pm (UTC)The more I think about it, the more I hate the whole "Maelstrom" storyline. I mean, implying that violence and abuse is not that bad if it's for the greater good (aka Kara's special destiny) and trying to sell that child abuse can be so easily forgiven and forgotten... That's all bullshit, sorry (and I believe that anyone who'd been through any form of emotional/physical abuse as a child will agree).
Also, Sammy and his unconditional love. Gah! It's not that I dislike him, it's just that I can't stand the "The Man Who Is Devoted To Her" archetype SO MUCH. I don't find it romantic, I find it annoying.

Date: 2010-11-05 03:55 pm (UTC)6. Kara's flashback declaration that the only thing she fears is being forgotten. Bull frakking shit. Oddly enough, if I had to say what I thought scared Kara more than anything, I'd say it was a combination of being thought a disappointment and being left behind. The sad thing was that she assumed the first was, on a long enough timeline, a given. As for the second, she was scared enough of that to push people away before they could leave her. Didn't exactly work with her dad or Zak, and you know how well she bounced back from those situations.
I've thought about kara's greatest fear(s), and I think it comes down to two things: 1) that she will hurt/kill someone she loves and 2) that she will continue to feel alone for the rest of her life. These two obviously work at odds with each other and I don't have time right now to substantiate them. I think a lot of us have different interpretations of her "greatest" fear, but for me these work. Be back later for more. :)

Date: 2010-11-05 03:39 pm (UTC)So instead I'm gonna offer some less serious topics of angst:
1) SECOND BANANA SHOULD HAVE SPLIT.
Seriously, they let the other spouses-as-obstacles go on too long and the depth of emotion at the end made no sense for the story based on what had come before.
2) WON'T SOMEONE THINK OF THE
CHIRRUN, WOMENFOLK?Six Dicks on a Dance Floor was not my preferred ending. Kthxbai.
3) PUT DOWN THE WHITE PAINT/TOOTHPASTE.
For frak's sake, if Bill Adama can roll around in it, I don't want to see it.

Date: 2010-11-05 05:35 pm (UTC)He could have, should have died many times over. He could have never been rescued from Caprica and died there quietly without me ever having to see him again. He could have died before being rescued, died of pneumonia or fighting the cylons on New Caprica without even effecting the plot or the K/L arc. He could have died on the algae planet (my current fave), died in the battle when Kara comes back. Then they actually shot him and it didn't seem to matter. *sigh*

Date: 2010-11-05 06:49 pm (UTC)They did similar to Dee, who was at the beginning the kind and shy girl next door type of character but whose character got trashed when she is eavesdropping on a private conversation between L&K which see then uses to sink her talons into him. Also she spends 2 seconds crying over Billy's dead body before taking up residence next to Lee in sickbay. She went from a nice girl to a cold hearted bitch in a blink of an eye.
Also when it comes to L&D and K&S all TPTB did was cut, cut and cut scenes with these couples. Go look at the DVDs and out on the internet where so much of these scenes were left on the cutting room floor. However they wouldn't put these ships out of their misery. To the bitter end they wouldn't admit what a joke these ships were we had to ignore one last kiss before Dee blew her brains out. Had to endure Kara weepy and crying over Sam for a long time. However before these vomit inducing scenes when was the last time K&S or L&D had scenes together? L&D last scene before this was when he left for Colonial One in Six of One, and K&S last real scene together was when he admitted he was a cylon.
Ugh so much wasted time on those damn ships.

Date: 2010-11-05 08:11 pm (UTC)This will somehow prevent the cycle from happening again? Do they mean in twenty generations when no one can even remember there were people who had a "cautionary tale" - that the genetic code twixt the humans and cylons was supposed to be enough to ward off slavery? How about an technological message - how about continuing their society with lessons learned and instead of hamstringing themselves without medical, electricity, fuel? WHAT THE MOTHERFRAKKING GODS IS THAT CRAP?
No. Not bitter at all. Lee, I love you to pieces, but really?
ETA: I see that thegreenkitty mentioned it above. Call this extra evidence in support of her dislike. :)

Date: 2010-11-06 12:04 am (UTC)So the want to give up the shelter those ships have. The Galactica alone houses alot of their history and culture, the history and culture they worked hard to hold on to, and when they can finally slow down enough to appreciate it, they send that all into the sun?
To put it simply as I can, they went through hell to get to a safe haven finally, why would they get rid of all advance technology and then spread out all over the Earth when there is only just over 40k people left?
If a society were stupid enough to do that, they would die out in a generation or two at the most.
Not only is this stupid as far as survival goes, it violates the show in and of itself. The show talked many times about what future generations would think, a society that clinged to their past. Doesn't the memorial wall speak of people who don't want to forget? Yet at the finish line, this is what they do?
This in my mind is on par with the idiocy of the poof and that is amazing that 2 of the most stupid things I've even seen on TV happened in the last what 30 minutes of the show's run?

Date: 2010-11-06 01:29 am (UTC)I like to call myself the conductor on the sam hate train. let me throw this out there. has anyone considered that he was an enabler to Kara's destructive habits and that was a form of control over her? just saying he is a douche bag.
Definition of ENABLER
: one that enables another to achieve an end; especially : one who enables another to persist in self-destructive behavior (as substance abuse) by providing excuses or by making it possible to avoid the consequences of such behavior
