DPP: Post-Mini

We were talking a bit in yesterday's thread about the awesomeness that is Kara and Lee's connection in the mini. Today, it being Friday and all I want to do a structured free-for-all - what would you do if the Mini were all we had gotten?

What fic would you write? Where would YOU bring BSG and our lovely pilots? Would you still ship them so hard? Would you take their story in different directions with such a clean slate? Go wild! Fic, art, discussion, recs, theories, fantasies -- let it all out! A toast, to possibility:

Because I'm not Moore, I'd have nothing in mind that had to do with earth! So the whole Kara finds Earth thing would never happen... I like to think that if the mini was all there was, they'd all live happily ever after post-therapy and Kara and Lee would deal with their history and end up together to help re-populate the species, lol.

Nice. What's old fic where there's a repopulation program and they're "randomly" selected to hook up and have a pilot!baby? I love that one. That's what this reminds me of. : )

Hmmm... I will have to see if I saved it (and ask a few peeps are are far better archivers than me. It may have been a latteaddict story, and sadly, those aren't up on LJ anymore. But I'll see what I can do.)

Awww, yes! That's it! Good 'ole mystic83. I loved that whole Possibilities series. (I havesuch a fondness Possibility: Different it's NOT EVEN FUNNY. I love that story with a passion I can't quite explain. Love this one too.)

Honestly? I probably wouldn't have given them much further thought if it was one episode. I need more time and context to really get hooked on a ship like this. (I always marvel at folks who ship movie couples really hard and fandoms that spring up so quickly and enormously around movies. I need time so I can get invested and watch the characters go through an arc and have a history! That's what's romantic to me. Shared experiences and time and obstacles overcome together.)

ACTUALLY, I probably wouldn't have bothered watching the mini at all. I'm not a sci-fi fan and I only watched BSG after I'd heard such overwhelmingly positive stuff about it for so long and I'd been watching/blown away by Katee on Bionic Woman.

I'm normally more like you in that it takes me real time (like all seven HP books and years of fandom to settle on H/Hr as my ship, lol) but every so often I get a bolt of just "YES" and I'd say Lee/Kara was one of those for me, I started going mad for them the moment I watched the mini (drove my boyfriend up the wall as he's still knew to shipper-goggles). It doesn't happen often though (Nick/Cassie in Push and Hatter/Alice in Syfy's Alice are really the only other ones I can think of and I look at H/A the same way I see Bones/Kirk - they're only 'one movie' but there's so much background/fandom/other universes that they're established, you know?).

I'm normally like you in that it takes me a while to warm up to ships, and even though I did ship pilots from the mini, I wouldn't have fallen quite so hard for them if there hadn't been the series afterwards.

Movie fandom shipping mystifies me too - the only one I've ever shipped anything in is Battle Royale (and that was a case of being converted by shipping one kind of made-up ship via fic, not by the movie). Maybe it's easier when they're part of a series?

I loved 'em from the start and I think you have enough shippy goodness to last a long damn time. They had me at hello (in the brig). *g*

As to possibilities, gosh-- I'm pretty much game for anything. Except excessive suffering that serves no narrative purpose. Not mah thang.

I went from slightly sceptical (because they're the hot young leads, of course they're supposed to hook up!) to intrigued in the brig, to pretty sure she was already in love with him when she got out the photograph, to absolutely sure the love was mutual and it was complicated on their reunion (and oddly, it was the very fact that they went so out of their way to defuse the situation and not do anything just then, that made me ship them. If that even makes sense...)

I think if the mini were all we got, I'd imagine them in denial for a while/struggling to get past Zak, but no pointless suffering for me either.

IT MAKE SO MUCH SENSE. Yes to this. So much yes. For me, there was everything I needed in the mini to ship the hell out of pilots. And the restraint in that scene just sealed the deal.

I totally would have shipped it. Half of the appeal to the pairing is all the pre-series speculating for me and a lot of that is set up from the start. If I was to write fic, it would have probably had a less angsty Kara with a lot more effective communication between the two but still with a lot of awkwardness.
