If there's one thing I've learned to love over the course of shipping pilots, it's the fact that their feelings for each other are hardly ever explicitly stated - those two crazy kids are so unlike everyone else in love, they can't even manage to state their effect on each other in the same words everyone else uses, not without incredible difficulty anyway.

And the way they do express it is not the way everyone expresses it - in the normal world, challenging each other to a beatdown or holding each other's gaze for several seconds too long isn't really taken as a sign of undying love.

So what is pilot-speak for "I love you/life without you is completely miserable"? Here's a few examples to start off with:

"I thought you were dead." "Well, I thought you were in hack." "It's good to be wrong."

Every time they forget and use each other's names instead of callsigns over the comms.

The final kiss in Scar.....and Lee finishing the toast at the end for Kara.

"Whatever it takes."

"This is all that matters."

Pilots code their feelings for each other in seemingly ordinary words and some not-so-ordinary body language ALL THE TIME, and even I can't begin to untangle all those times - do discuss, and since there is loads that I've missed out on, feel free to add to the list!

Pilots 101

First of all, I post this for [livejournal.com profile] damao2010 who's "internet access has gone crazy this week" and who didn't really managed to post it here from here phone. Some of you might have seen this post on her LJ. I'll just repost here so everybody can see it and contribute to the discussion.

Her post goes like this

On to today's topic...

There are a lot of people who don't get our fierce devotion to our ship. I'm convinced they just don't get pilots' particular language and codes.
Let's be honest. When most people beat each other senseless they are not saying 'I love you' .
So how about giving the non-initiated a few guidelines so they can translate pilots' verbal and non-verbal language?

And in order for this post to not be picture-less I'll add a couple of caps that describe what I think that Claudia meant here. So, have at it.

Hi, my lovely DPPers! I don't know about you but I'm still recovering from the festivities of Oscar Week, so I'mma gonna ease us back into DPPland with a little bit of Monday Morning Pretty. (There will be thinky thoughts and tougher challenges later in the week, promise!) But for now, here's a tinyspam of pilots in the position they seem to love best. (I heard that! Get your minds out of the gutter! ;)) I don't know what it is, but I love when they stand around with their hands on their hips for some reason. Maybe I am hoping they'll bust into the Time Warp dance, I don't know. But what are some of your favorite stances, gestures, movements from pilots? I've also noticed that Lee rubs his hand over his mouth a lot and Kara pinches the bridge of her nose when she's stressed/thinking.  And obviously we all know they love to have lingering handshakes and hugs (where Kara sighs a lot). Hee. What else have you got?
