[identity profile] thegreenkitty.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] no_takebacks
Happy Monday Shipper Nation!! I'm Liz and I'm excited to be your DPP driver this week. I've got games, memes, ficlets, and other goodies planned so I hope you'll drop by throughout the week.

First, a huge shout-out to [livejournal.com profile] sci_fi_shipper for an amazing week full of insightful discussion, gorgeous and adorable artwork and scenarios for happy pilots, comment!fic, pilots playlists, and loads of fun!! Great work, hon!!

And now, I'd like to introduce the Return of the Friending Meme!!

[livejournal.com profile] shah_of_blah had a lovely idea about two months ago to host a "friending meme" DPP. During my time in K/L fandom, I've been continually impressed by how wonderfully kind and supportive everyone here has been. It's an absolute pleasure to be part of this community. When I saw Shah's meme, I thought to myself that we should really do that on a regular basis to renew old friendships, get to know more about one another, and welcome newcomers to the community. I've also been chatting with some new (to me) people recently and realized that a number of you aren't on my flist. This problem must be rectified!!

In that spirit, I've put together some "getting to know you questions" so we all can introduce or reintroduce ourselves. I encourage using this opportunity to add fellow shippers to your flists. (p.s.--You'll notice I've tried to make the questions short and sweet (when vs. why, etc.) since we've had many discussions of why we're here or why K/L is our OTP. While you are certainly welcome to include that info, I am hoping the quick answer format will encourage participation...and friending...of old, middle, and new guard shippers since posting should be a quick, painless five minutes.

The questions:
1. Your username, callsign if applicable, +/- anything else you prefer (or don't mind) being called.
2. When did you start watching bsg?
3. When did you enter fandom?
4. Is K/L your first/only fandom or are you a multi-fandom type?
5. Have you done things you never dreamed you would in order to participate in fandom? Examples?
6. Any current projects you want to advertise?
7. If you were stranded on a desert island and could only have 5 bsg episodes, which would you take? I'll allow an arc to count as one entry to make things a little easier.
8. What do you do in the few minutes that you aren't obsessing over K/L?

Now, go on, friend, chatter, and be merry!!

1. Your username, callsign if applicable, +/- anything else you prefer (or don't mind) being called. Heather (the other Heather to some)

2. When did you start watching bsg? October 2009 when I was jobless and had recently left Brooklyn to move to my new, less glamorous city. It helped a lot and then totally depressed me.

3. When did you enter fandom? After I watched it a second time, just to be sure it was as awesome and depressing as I remembered. When I got to the end for the second time, I realized that the poof had not changed and then I dove into fandom for some answers/support/fixing. *G*

4. Is K/L your first/only fandom or are you a multi-fandom type? First: X-Files, Mulder/Scully; Second: Buffy/Angel then Buffy/Spike (in the end it's B/S); And just when I thought NOTHING IN THE UNIVERSE could be better than Buffy, I found BSG. HOLY FRAKKING FRAK. I'm hardcore now. Buffy who? (Mulder still makes me squee, though. Hee.)

5. Have you done things you never dreamed you would in order to participate in fandom? Examples? I am writing and publishing fic. I'm even slowly revealing more of my personality online. It's been a bit of a nervous journey to reveal myself personally (although I did jump into fandom with two feet).

6. Any current projects you want to advertise? Chasing the Dragon is owning my frakking life right now. Sheesh.

7. If you were stranded on a desert island and could only have 5 bsg episodes, which would you take? I'll allow an arc to count as one entry to make things a little easier.
- Scar
- UBEX
- EoJ
- TSAR
- Revelations

8. What do you do in the few minutes that you aren't obsessing over K/L? I sleep. (And I might talk to other humans)

Hee! Heather, I didn't know you were a Buffy/Spike shipper :) I loved them a lot and still do. They are one of the fandoms I return to, and there were some very beautiful fics about them in their day. One of the first fanfics I ever wrote (and which I never posted) was a little Fanged Foursome adventure with Spike, Dru, Angelus and Darla. They can be a fun dysfunctional family, too. And in one of the few original poems I've ever written, I made it a point to use the word "effulgent" :)

EFFULGENT! You are a pro, Rachel. That is one tough word!

Yeah, Buffy/Spike, although I did not enter the fanfiction realm with them. Is there lots of Buffy changes her mind and really falls in love with him fic? Because if so, I might like to read some. That sounds delightful.

That Fanged Foursome adventure sounds so fun! I loved Spike and Dru. Some great characterizations and writing there. Hee. Makes me giggle to think of Dru and Spike together with her all pouting and him all cheeky and lovey-dovey with her. *giggles and wants to watch again*

You used to live in Brooklyn? *high fives* (Although I too shall be leaving my fair borough in a few months!)

And I think there are a few "Buffy" people scattered around BSG fandom - I think that universe was another one with such strong, powerful characters that it was easy to get obsessed, yeah? (Though by the end, Wesley was my favorite character from the entire Buffyverse, I too was a Spike/Buffy person back in the day. "You'll never be friends", etc., etc. OH SHOW!)

*high fives* Another Brooklynite! Were are you (if you'd like to say)? I was in Park Slope for twelve years. I loved most of it, but it is nice to have a slower pace and easy parking and short commutes and less piss everywhere. LOL.

SPUFFY FTW!

No problemo! I live in Fort Greene/Clinton Hill; we've been here for ten years and I LOVE it lots and lots. I'll be sad to leave.

SPUFFY FTW!

Heh! I think that was my first experience in total 'shippiness (I may have literally squealed when Spike woke up from his dream about Buffy and realized he was in love with her!) and also the heartbreak of having one's ship sunk by the showrunners >:|

Unlike a lot of Spuffy people, though, I actually really LIKED Angel. I just liked him with Darla :P (Well, actually, I loved him as Connor's dad - that was his real OTP - um, not in a gross incestuous way, just in the fulfilment of who he was way. Does that make sense?) SIGH!

(Dear lord, thanks to this friending meme, I have gone and uploaded a whole bunch of new bsg icons. And now I have FORTY-SIX. Yikes!

Hello Heather! My my those are lot of scifi ships! At least you come by your name honestly!

I'm even slowly revealing more of my personality online. It's been a bit of a nervous journey to reveal myself personally I'm pretty much the same. I've been very vague online. But I love BSG.
