Hello Kara/Lee Lovers! I am sci_fi_shipper and I'll be your happy driver this week. I'm gonna start us off with a game of sorts. We're going to do a variation on a theme taragel did a few months ago with the alphabet (here), but we're gonna use numbers instead.




Instructions: We'll count up from 1 to 99 (or higher if you want). For each number, write something about Kara/Lee that corresponds to it.

As the numbers get higher, there is no expectation of accuracy, so do some Starbuck thinking outside the box and get creative, e.g. 69 is well, we all know what it is, or 27: number of times Starbuck wanted to kiss Lee during the briefing, or 87: the year they got married - whatever makes your shipper heart happy!

We can do our best to keep the numbers in order, but don't worry if they're mixed up a bit and I totally expect duplicates - it's all good!

22 - Number of CAPS Lee flew on his own after Kara died

23 - Number of times he went to the memorial way staring at her picture (one for after each CAP and one for the day she came back)

24 - Number of bruises she had on her body after Lee beat the crap out of her in the dance.

25 - Number of kisses Lee placed on her body as he washed the blood away in the showers after the dance (24 for each bruise and one really long one on her lips just for good measure)

22. It's the number on her first pyramid jersey, but she swaps with a teammate in under a week. She hates symmetry -- she's already decided her end won't resemble her start.

23. Her first roster of nuggets overfills their small classroom; the twenty-third comes in late and has to sit on the floor. Grinning, he picks a spot at the head of the class, directly in front of her podium, and informs her that Adamas are alphabetically fated to come first. So she calls him by his first name, alphabetically last, to beat him at his own game. It takes her awhile to realize that he's playing a different game.

24. The hours per day that she crosses Lee's mind.

25. There are five players with five cards each and there's plenty of room for one more. It's not a pirate ship they're running, but as she walks away he feels the floor drop from under him and notices for the first time what a narrow plank he's been walking all this time.

26. He's twenty-six when they lose Zak, but he feels older.

27. She does push-ups in hack to take the edge off, but gets bored quickly.

28. There's a pile of forty pilot evaluation forms on his desk, and he's more than halfway through when he pulls hers from the stack. He carefully notes her reaction times, her kill rates, her strategic finesse. More than that, he writes of leadership, of morale, of innovation and responsibility. He lays out her objective merits, plain and incontrovertible, made out in triplicate on papers that will probably survive him. They are the only love letters he ever writes.

36 days since the end of the worlds and she still thanks the gods every day for keeping Lee alive. She wouldn't know what to do if he wasn't there, flying her wing.

37 nights sleeping across from her bunk, listening to her breath and thanking whoever was looking out for them for not having taken her away from him. She was his only reason for waking up any more.

38 weeks was a little early, but when her water broke, she was too weak to protest as Lee picked her up and carried her to sickbay.

40 cubits in the last pot she won in a game of triad with Hot Dog, who'd had too much to drink and thought he could win just this one time.

41 seconds: the fastest sim time ever recorded on the Bruntner run simulation. She'd found a shortcut.

42. Since the Leobens had joined the Cylon-human alliance, most of them had carefully avoided her. But there was one who kept leaving notes -- cycles of time, death and rebirth, all his usual tired dementia. She was planning to punch him out, but flipping open his latest missive, she had to stop and stare. "I swim in the stream. So long and thanks for all the fish?" She read aloud. "What the frak?"

46. The number of "spots" Kara chooses to build their house (and then changes her mind) before Lee finally gets stubborn and just insists on building one exactly where the tent is pitched right now.

47 minutes later, she's cradling her beautiful baby boy in her arms with Lee looking over her shoulder, completely in awe of her and the baby. Cottle walks away mumbling about how this was the shortest labor ever and how he's not surprised, given the kid's impatient parents.

48 hours since Kara's viper exploded and he still feels like his heart is about to explode in his chest. She can't be gone. She just ... can't. Can she?

49 cigars left in the entire universe. She knows, because she's counted them. 49. Too bad she can't smoke any more. She promised Lee that she'd take care of herself and she promised herself to take care of the little child growing inside her.

50 years. They'd known each other for 50 years, 42 of them, together. How do you say goodbye after 50 years? You don't. You just close your eyes as the doctors tell you they tried everything. You close your eyes and you whisper, "see you on the other side, Lee."

59 minutes: He's almost made it one hour without thinking of her.

60 days since Kara left him on New Caprica and he still can't think about her without feeling sick. He eats just to keep it down.

61 winks and smirks and raised eyebrows before he can't take it any more and smashes her up against the bulkhead to kiss her.

62 hours later, he changes his mind and tells Dee it's over.

63 is the lucky number of Kara's pyramid jersey from her second year draft. When she busts her knee, she decides that nothing can be lucky forever.

64 cords of wood piled up to dry. Then a summer of slaving to plane and chink them. The cabin is starting to shape up.

65 times their daughter asks "are we there yet?" before Lee turns around and shouts that he's going to "turn this raptor around right frakking now!" (Kara teases him later that Lee's the one responsible for her tongue AND her temper.)

66 minutes after he's shot in the Cloud 9 lounge, Kara's waiting outside sickbay, trying to force her legs to move in the last bit of the way.

67 doesn't seem old enough for someone to die. But Bill has lived a long time, and the winters here on Earth are hard. He closes his eyes and thinks of Laura.

68 feet from the house to woodshed, but Kara STILL manages to find the boat he's been working on for her birthday. She swears she could hear him pounding away on something.

69... is Kara's favorite number nowadays, she declares. Lee laughs and throws a pillow at her, blushing bright red.

70 different ways Lee considers asking Kara to marry him, and then she turns the table on him when she says "everyone's expecting it anyhow."
