DPP - All the world is a stage ...
Sep. 17th, 2010 01:42 amHi!
Well, we started the week with pretty, so I think it's only fair to end the week, and start the weekend, with pretty too. Only this time, let's concentrate on the wonderful actors who've brought our fictional pilots to life and who've been so amazing with their portrayals that we've all bought into the ship hook, line & sinker.
Today's post is all about Katee Sackhoff and Jamie Bamber. Bring on all you've got. Icons? Yes. Videos? Yes. Articles? Yes.
But also take a minute to tell us what you think about their acting. We know that they both improvised certain key scenes. How do you think that improved their characters? Do you feel that it would've been the same with any other actors in these roles?
Here's your chance to praise the wonderful actors, share pictures and any other tidbits you might like.
Personally, I can't even imagine anyone else playing Starbuck & Apollo.
taragel did a post a while ago where she asked about other possibilities and we bandied about actors like Eric Mabius (who looks kinda like Jamie) and Pink (hee).
I think Jamie brings a certain gravitas (for lack of a better word) to the role. He plays it with great intensity, which is precisely who Lee is: intense ;-) I also love how he can convey so much emotion just by a look. The mark of great acting for me isn't someone who can memorize dialogue and hit their marks, but someone who tells the audience exactly what they're thinking with a subtle look, a shift in facial expression, a hand gesture and Jamie does that very, very well.
Katee's acting is effortless. She simply IS Starbuck. You don't feel that she's acting at all. All the bravado, the sense of humor, the swagger ... it's just THERE. And when she let's that wall drop and Kara peeks through? Yeah. She does that with the same delicate finesse as Jamie, IMO.
Of course the chemistry between the two of them is off the charts.
Fave pictures:
This is a relatively recent picture of Jamie, I believe. Look at those eyes. How can eyes be THIS blue?
And I really, really like this one. He's just scruffy and ... oh whatever. I'm preaching to the choir here, I know.
These are three of my all time favorite pictures of Katee. I loved her with the short haircut and she's just so gorgeous in these IMO

Obviously a still from the set. It's a great pic because they're not Kara & Lee, but they kinda are. Know what I mean?
You've all probably seen these videos a million times, but they're still on my top ten list.
Jamie describes Apollo as "Chippy"
Jamie talks about how he found out about BSG
Katee talks about how she got the job
**NOTE: On our fic-rec post the other day, I mentioned that you couldn't rec any RPF's. That's because I was saving it for this post. Please know, I am very much aware that some folks are uncomfortable with this particular genre and I totally respect that. I'm leaving the option open for whoever wants to rec RPF. For those of you who want to rec, but don't want to be, er, public (?) about it, there is the option of posting your comment "anonymously" by logging off of LJ first. Either way, it's up to you!

Date: 2010-09-17 04:59 pm (UTC)Makes me ALMOST think about taking up running myself. Almost.
Or I could just watch a professional run.
