Alright you lot, for today I have something a little different.  The thing is, some of us remember fandom before this comm, and some joined just after the finale, and some have only just discovered the show...and just about every time I read the comments on this site I find new and unfamiliar faces (by faces, I of course mean usernames).  So I propose...(drumroll please)...a friending meme!

Now, I've just taught myself how to do this code box thing so let's hope it works.  Anyway, you can copy and paste the following code into your comments.

I valiantly tried to do one of those code box things but the html was being very, very difficult and I gave up.  You guys can just copy and paste from here.  Remember that each line is, of course, optional.  Now go, talk to people, and be merry!

What got you into BSG/Kara&Lee? My best friend kept bugging me to watch it and promised it wouldn't be as cheesy as teh original and I was hooked after the first 3 minutes of the mini.
Favorite character(s): Kara, Lee, Baltar, Tigh, Leoben (whatever! He's the most interesting Cylon, IMO)
Favorite episode: 33
Favorite scene: The "you're the worse CAG in the history of CAG's" scene in 33 - AMENDMENT: I like the stims scene in 33.
Other fandoms: Pride & Prejudice, LoTR, West Wing & Star Trek. Used to be a Cristina/Owen shipper on Grey's Anatomy, but not any more. Also lurk on Castle and read the fic ;-)
What do you post on your journal? Random stuff, original blogs/rl stuff, trying to write fic.
Three random facts about you: I hate ice cream (it's too cold), I talk really, really fast, I have a phobia of things falling off of ledges, etc. (but I'm not afraid of heights, so I don't care if it's a PERSON sitting on a ledge, but it freaks me out if it's a glass of water or something)
If you could meet any person (dead, alive, real, fictional) who would you choose? Henry VIII. Hands down.
Anything else you'd like to share? I'm a huge fantasy story fan and am always looking for people to discuss them with. I'm also a total gadget hound and tech freak.

HEY! Where's my user fic? Well, I know that you know me, so that would be hard, but I still want one :-)

CRAP! Sorry, Naz, but I think I already know too much about you to do a good one. But.... since I wouldn't want to disappoint you, I'll do a variation on the "friendsfic" theme. You get, "Past Life Naz" story:

In a previous life, you were the daughter of an impoverished but influential gentleman of the privy chamber of Henry VIII. This meant that as you reached the age of 14, you took a position of lady in waiting for Queen Catherine (of Aragon). One summer, as the court was traveling, you were struck by ague. Henry (being a bit of a hypochondriac) insisted that the rest of the court move on without you, and you were left behind to recover. After that, you had spells when you suddenly could sense the future, though you wisely kept these to yourself. This meant that when a black-haired young woman affecting a French accent who had changed the spelling of her last name to seem less provincial, joined the court, you wisely removed yourself from her circle, and settled in the countryside... waiting while the scandal erupted.

You lived a long and prosperous life, following the markets, especially in the New World, and making an independent living unheard of for a woman of that time period. You never married, though you had various "friends" and "amours" with whom you traveled, and shared your life. You also sponsored a number of foundlings (some of them the by-blows of royalty), and were generally believed to be a wise and learned woman.

In middle age, you returned to court to guide and advise the new queen, Elizabeth I, as she embarked on her own voyage as a woman of independent means. Your prescient advice prevented many calamities and ultimately resulted in England being one of the wealthiest and most stable powers in the era. Your bones are interred in Westminster cathedral with the epitaph: Fortuna vitrea est; tum cum splendet frangitur.

Fortune is glass; just when it gleams brightest it shatters.)

I literally get a funny feeling in my stomach when someone puts an object on a ledge. *shudder* can't even write about it without cringing!

Can I just tell you that I was OBSESSED with Henry VIII when I was younger? I still am a bit. I wanted to know all about him. And I actually have like this kinship with Catherine Howard for some reason. I felt like I was her (I know that's weird but eh...) So, yeah I would definitely go with you to see Henry VIII and you can come with me when I meet Jane Austen. Best day ever. =)

I always say that all I need is a tube of Neosporin right after he fell off his horse. History would be forever changed! Of all his wives, CH is my favorite too. Hey who knows, maybe you were her in a past life *g*

Oh, and Jane Austen. OMG ... there isn't enough room here to talk about her and how I feel about her writing. It always bugs me that when they make movies out of her work, they concentrate on the "love" stuff. Totally misses the subtlety of her writing, her humor, her social criticism, etc.

Ah... we can have discussions for hours about these two :-)

PS I just friended you :-)

I know right! haha! Have you watched The Tudors? I haven't seen it so I don't really know anything about it except that it's based on Henry VIII. It's probably not even close to historically accurate. For some reason, I think that would be awesome if I was her in a past life and also a little terrifying. =)

I totally agree with you. Jane Austen was a frakkin' genius.

Sweet! Thanks! You're my friend too!

Yeah, I watch the Tudors. I think they did a great job with his earlier years and they should've stopped right after Anne Boleyn mainly because no matter how good Jonathan Rhys Meyers is (and he is a really good actor, IMO), he really stopped looking anything like HVIII after that. What's really great about the series is actually all the supporting cast. They do a really good job of showing what's happening "around" Henry, which obviously affects him/his decisions. They've been pretty accurate with the timelines, etc. although of course, there's some creative license. It is much, much, much better than the nonsense that is "The Other Boleyn Girl" (PURE fiction there) and even, IMO Elizabeth 1 with Cate Blanchett.

Hmmm... Interesting. Yeah.. JRM was the main reason for the weirdness that I felt about it. I'll have to check it out. Are they still making new seasons of it? I think the supporting cast sounds interesting. I love good intrigue. ;)

No it's done. Last one was the last season. They have the best of the best current British actors in the supporting roles. It's definitely worth watching, esp if you can like get it on a free stream from Netflix or something. I've bought the whole thing, but I have a sickness with buying books & DVD's. *sigh*

I'll check it out. I like streaming TV shows on Netflix, because then you don't have to wait for the next disk to come in. Oh, and collecting DVD's in another thing we have in common, by the way. =)

*sigh* hubby lost it when I hit the 600 DVD mark, but I'm still a baby compared to my best friend who owns about 3,000 DVD's. Books are my real weakness. I have a huge library at home and we keep having to buy new bookshelves cuz god forbid they get boxed away in the garage *shudder*. Oh, and Sharpies. I have a crazy thing for Sharpies.

This makes me giggle. Talk about separated at birth. I'm constantly adding books to my library and my kids won't let me near the office/school supply section of any store for fear I'll snag all the Sharpies and not leave any for others. LOL

I started entering my library on Delicious last year and I'm still not done! I think I've hit the 1,200 mark. Hubby just rolls his eyes because it's like, hey! I'm not shooting heroine. I'm reading books!

Oh, no one and I mean NO ONE touches my Sharpies (have you seen the new ones they came out with? The ones that don't bleed through? *sigh*) The best birthday gift I got recently was a box of 120 multi-colored Sharpies *g* I'm not allowed to go to Staples by myself any more cuz I'll just come home with more (well and er, plus other office supplies. They're like shoes for me. You can never have enough shoes and office supplies/Sharpies)

I'm a huge fantasy story fan

What do you read? I dabble reading in the genre and am always looking for more books.

YAY!!! Well, I tend to read everything really, but my favorite authors are Robert Jordan (RIP), Roger Zelazny (RIP), Melanie Rawn (just the Dragon Prince series tho, not her newer stuff), Anne McCaffrey, R.A. Salvatorre, Mercedes Lackey, David Eddings (RIP), Margaret Weiss & Tracy Hickman, Brandon Sanderson, Piers Anthony ... the list goes on and on. If you tell me what type of fantasy you like I can rec books. AND the bonus is that if you read one of my rec's, I'll read with you and we can discuss. We can add each other to our flists and talk about it :-)

Man, you and my boyfriend have nearly the same taste in books. I haven't been able to get into Robert Jordan, but LOVE Elizabeth Haydon. I like my fantasy with a touch of romance. I'd love to add you!

Just added you back. Okay, if you like romance (and you're obviously a BSG fan, so battles & politics are your thing), then start with Melanie Rawn's Dragon Prince series. [livejournal.com profile] kag523 is gonna start reading it pretty soon too and we can all discuss. It is ... phenomenal. EPIC love story.

PS I stopped reading Wheel of Time cuz Robert Jordan was taking so long with each sequel. I'm waiting for Sanderson to finish and publish the final book (which is gonna be sometime in 2011) and then I'll start reading from the beginning.
