Hey, I know I said I was going to post a two day thing? Eh... I changed my mind! :D I'm not sure if we've done this one before but I figured I'm going to go for it anyways. Tomorrow's post is going to come a little bit late in the day and I might do the two-day challenge then, because it's a little involved and takes a bit more time.

Anyways, what are we venting at Joe's about?

Unpopular Pilots (and other Fandom) Opinions.

I thought some of these might be coming up since we've been thinking so much about the scenes and the voting. Ever feel alone in what you think? Are you afraid to speak your mind sometimes because the other shippers don't agree with your opinion? Well pull up a barstool, get a drink, and spill it. Bartenders are, of course, the everyman's therapist.

I am a multishipper.

Probably everyone knows this by now, and I really don't feel all that nervous about admitting/saying it, but I thought I'd chime in anyway. ;) I ship Kara/Lee and Kara/Sam and make no apologies for so doing. I also like Sam (a lot) and I don't mind Dee. Around here that probably makes me a heretic, but I don't care - I shall wear my heretic badge with pride. :D ('Sides, in the Star Wars fandom, where I also multiship, I've been called all kinds of crazy names, including being told that I'm delusional and I should be locked up in a mental asylum. The people were totally serious, too, though I laughed - because what else can you really do? ;D Needless to say, in a fandom like that, you develop a pretty thick skin.)

I like K/L and K/S for different reasons, though some of those reasons do overlap. Kara's relationship with Sam is different from her relationship with Lee, and it brings out different qualities and attitudes in her. Seeing all sides of her (no pun intended, hehe) is interesting to me, and I do feel that she genuinely loves both men - though for perhaps dissimilar reasons. Kara/Sam feels to me like what Kara/Zak might have been had Zak lived, so it's also intriguing from that perspective. :)

THIS.

It's that easy, carefree thing that she had stolen from her.

Yes, and I do think that it's something she needs, despite everything. Lee is good for her because he challenges her and pushes her to be the best person she can, but it's also beneficial for her to have someone who doesn't push her, someone who simply accepts her for who she is (which, in the earlier seasons at least, Lee was sometimes not all that skilled at doing IMO).

Okay, your last sentence "Kara/Sam feels to me like what Kara/Zak might have been had Zak lived, so it's also intriguing from that perspective" is what will allow me to forgive you for liking Dee. (Kidding, OF COURSE:>)

Seriously, that last comment explains a LOT of the Kara / Sam dynamic. Well put!

(Hee, I don't mind! Like I said, I totally get that Dee-love isn't a popular thing around here, and I don't begrudge anyone who holds an opinion contrary to mine. :))

Despite the fact that I ship K/L and K/S, it took me a little while to reconcile in my mind what might have made Kara choose Sam over Lee - or vice versa - and Sam resembling Zak was one of the factors explaining it. Personality-wise I perceive Sam and Zak to be different people (obviously) but the way in which they treated Kara was/is similar.

I often think Kara was, to some degree, using Sam to "make up" for her perceived failures with Zak. The fact that she promised to return for him, and kept that promise, may have meant in her eyes that she had finally managed to do something right, and created a firm link with Sam that she wasn't able to ignore.

Yeah, that's how I see it (even though I like to believe that Zak was less doormat-ish than Sam :p). Also, even though I do believe that Kara loved genuinely Sam and Zak, I always thought Lee was her soulmate, the one for her.

Oh no, I totally agree on the doormat thing. ;) Personality-wise I think Sam and Zak are different, but the ways they had of relating to Kara and the ways they treated her were similar. I'm sort of mixed on the soul mate thing, but that's probably more a function of me personally not believing in soul mates, rather than anything else. :)

I like Dee, too. Actually, speaking of Star Wars, I feel the same way about Dee's sudden attack of "OMG I'M A WILTING FLOWER, CATCH ME, LEE," as I felt about (what I see as) Padme's sudden attack of the same in Ep. III. (Seriously, how does she go from being such a BAMF in Ep. I to such a delicate blossom in III? WHAT IS THAT ABOUT. Anyway.)

STRONG FEMALE CHARACTERS DO NOT WORK THAT WAY D: D: D:

(I mean, that's not to say that relationships can't be a girl's Achilles heel, but at least in those two instances, what they're selling, I ain't buying.)

(Apparently I feel very parenthetical this afternoon.) (Also, like, apologies in advance if my take on Padme =/= yours! YMMV is like, my personal motto. I can't believe someone actually told you that you were delusional. Oh, SW fandom, I'm glad I stayed in a galaxy far, far away from you... ;) )

(That icon? ROCKS. Just so ya know. ;D)

That's a really, really interesting way to look at it, and one I hadn't thought of! But honestly, I COULD NOT POSSIBLY AGREE MORE when it comes to Padmé in Episode III. I'm not one given to capslock, usually, but my total utter agreement in this situation requires it. ;) Lucas just ... completely destroyed her character in RotS. He destroyed it and all the parts of the film that did show her taking an active role politically (i.e. participating in the creation of the Rebellion) ended up on the cutting room floor. It was like ... as she got deeper and deeper into her relationship with Anakin, more and more of her soul just kind of evaporated. And I say that as someone who also ships Anakin/Padmé! Yes, pregnancy changes one's personality to some degree. I can attest to that personally. But it should not be that drastic, nor should her only role in the film have been to change her clothes and stare wistfully out the window. Especially not after what we saw about her ability to take an active role in Eps. I and II.

/RANT (Sorry, off-topic, but this is a touchy issue for me! Heh.)

(And hey, I'm being pretty parenthetical myself. ;) It's probably a very good idea that you've stayed away from the SW fandom. I mean, I've met some amazing people through it, and many whom I count as great friends, but I've met a lot of assholes, too. Apparently shipping Obi-Wan/Padmé as my OTP makes me delusional. THE MORE YOU KNOW ... ;D)

I probably shouldn't even be anywhere near this thread, but I have to ask:

I feel the same way about Dee's sudden attack of "OMG I'M A WILTING FLOWER, CATCH ME, LEE," as I felt about (what I see as) Padme's sudden attack of the same in Ep. III.

What scene/episode are you even talking about? Or are you just saying that's how you perceive her character?

Huzzah! Huzzah! A thousand times yes!

Hee. I am so glad to see your comment here. I think I multiship, too. I tend to think that Sam is a better match for Kara, but I enjoy the hell out of Kara/Lee (and Kara/Leoben, for that matter). I pretty much can ship Kara with anyone, and I think it would work.

Also, Sam is my hero and Dee is awesome.
