You know how sometimes you'll see an actor and just think "Wow, they look exactly like XX"?

That happened to me when I first started watching the miniseries and Lee Adama came into view. I'd never seen Jamie in any other roles and immediately I thought "Wow, he looks an awful lot like Daniel from Ugly Betty." Daniel is played by Eric Mabius

Witness:

Ironically enough, Mabius and Bamber were just cast together in a new sci-fi series for the BBC titled Outcasts (it'll air on BBC America this fall). As far as I know, they are not playing brothers or relatives of any kind.

Now Katee is a bit harder. She didn't specifically remind me of any one person that much, although she definitely fit a type of blonde, tomboy heroine that I'd enjoyed in the past. Witness:

  + +  =

But since those references are all a bit dated, I'll go with someone more modern. Now I haven't seen Atonement or the BBC Emma yet, but I hear Romola Garai looks a lot like Katee (she makes a ton of Katee-ish faces in the stills I've seen). Witness:

Different hats maybe but same eyes, wide mouth, complexion. Yeah I can see it.

And not to leave out our quad of doom compatriots, I have some doppelgangers for Sam and Dee also:

OK so these two don't look a ton alike, but there's something about their natures that remind me of each other. Kris Polaha from Life Unexpected has the same kind of everyman, ex-jock, good natured but maybe a bit of a slacker kind of vibe that reminds me of Sam (or Trucco). They're both very tall also.

When I went to see it in theatres last year, all through Star Trek, I kept getting distracted because Zoe Saldana's character reminded me so much of Dee. I don't think it was just my BSG obsessed mind though...I really think the actresses look kind of alike. They could play sisters!

So, who reminds you (physically or otherwise) of our favorite (and, uh, sometimes less favorite) BSG peeps?

You know it's quite funny, a little girl in the grade 1 class I'm teaching at the moment looks so much like Dee, or how I would imagine Dee as a little girl. (I won't post a picture of her though) She has the same face shape and the same pale greeny eyes with her darkish skin.

The only time Katee Sackhoff reminds me of anyone else is just this ONE SHOT in the scene when she and Lee are finger-painting the helmets, from the side profile she reminds me of Keira Knightley for a second. But the two of them don't really look anything alike, LOL.

I used to not get it when people remarked that Lee and Sam actually look a lot alike, but I'm starting to see it in some pictures...

I definitely think season one-ish Dee is reminiscent of Uhura...not so much later on. Yeah, now you have me tempted to write cracky crossover Billy/Nyota, WTF. Jeez, McClure and Saldana are both so damn gorgeous.

Great topic!

Well, you and I already chatted about (and agree *g*) that Eric & Jamie look alike, although I still think Jamie is way, way hotter. It's because he's way more masculine than Eric. You sort of know that there is some serious fire there with Jamie. Don't get that from Eric at all. That's just me.

I can't post pictures yet (yeah, I learned how, but I don't have a photo bucket account yet), so I'm just gonna list my thoughts:

Katee: Pink. I actually feel that if Katee hadn't taken the role, Pink could've easily filled in.

Michael T: How about Dane Cook? Yes, I'm reaching a bit, but hey, they're both tall. Heh.

Totally with you on Zoe & Kandyse. K is prettier IMO.

Gonna go get some z's. Will be back tomorrow with more.

Random, but true, Katee was not what they were looking for with Starbuck in terms of physical appearance... I forget where I heard that, though.

Weren't they originally looking for someone older? They said that when Katee showed up at her audition, she was all dolled up in heels and they didn't think she fit the role at all. It's really hard to imagine anyone else in that role. I mean, Grace Park auditioned for Starbuck. Um ... no.

And I loved Romola Garai but not the BBC Emma. I think she's good but I didn't much like the adaptation itself

I didn't mind it too much except I felt that sometimes, Emma was just a bit too "frantic," if that makes any sense. I thought it was a good adaptation of the book. Emma's pretty flighty and perky in the book and they did a good job with that. What I had a hard time getting over, even though I actually like him a lot, was Jonny Lee Miller. Mr. Knightley is forever etched in my brain as the wonderfully sexy Jeremy Northam.

My friends insist that Scott Wolf looks like Jamie Bamber... but I totally do not see it.

Katee's got such interesting, sort of unusual facial features that it's hard to peg anyone that looks like her, IMO.

I agree with you, Ray. I don't see the resemblance. The head shape is all wrong and not enough chisel for me. ;)

Yeah, my RL friends tell me that Scott Wolf looks like Jamie Bamber –and I don’t get it either, Jamie is way hotter!! (Wolf totally looks like Michael J. Fox, imo).

Also, that's not a very attractive photo of Kandyse, IMO. Not a flattering angle or flattering light.

Oh, and I totally see the Romola Garai/Katee Sackhoff connection. I watched the Emma BBC series –which I loved, btw— a while ago and some of her facial expressions reminded me a lot –and I mean a lot— to Katee’s. Besides, Romola exudes a similar charisma on screen, imo.

Fun topic. I don't have much new to add, but I will say that when I first started watching the BSG miniseries, I also thought that Dee reminded me of Uhura, and I wondered if that had been a conscious decision on Ron Moore's part, given his long history with Star Trek. I don't think he set out to make an Uhura clone or anything, I just thought maybe he was inviting his audience to identify this minor communications officer role with something they were already familiar with, like giving them a point of reference to jump off from. Maybe not, but the thought did occur to me.

As to Katee and who might resemble her, I can't think of a specific person who came really close, but I have sometimes thought while watching her that she would have been perfect to appear on Joss Whedon's "Firefly," because the idea behind that universe is that the United States and China became the dominant superpowers on Earth and that everyone in the future is descended from that mixture of genetics and cultures. There is something about her combination of fair coloring and wide face, hazel eyes and broad, delicate cheekbones, that makes her seem like a believable mixture of Asian and American traits. Also, she totally would have enjoyed being a rebel smuggler with a secret heart of gold.

I've always found Jamie quite attractive, but it's fun to hear him described as fiery and masculine, because my husband made fun of my crush on him for years, targeting his flowing golden locks and sensitive vulnerability in the Horatio Hornblower miniseries :) I think he can play both manly and pretty quite well, and am happy with both. But he's never been more gorgeous than as Apollo.

Having no new ideas, I tried running Jamie and Katee through a web-based photo recognition site (http://www.picitup.com), but I hated all the potential matches. I think I love them too much as they are. :)

Michael Trucco came up with Paul Rudd, though, which I can get on board with. That affable charm. Boyish grin. Which is why I also agree with Dane Cook, who's already been mentioned.

And I was very excited to learn that among my hits for celebrity lookalikes were Sarah Michelle Gellar and Gillian Anderson! I don't really see the SMG similarities, but I'll take any opportunity to be associated to the Slayer. As far as Gillian Anderson (I do have reddish hair), I did once cast her as me in "Barnes & Noble: The Motion Picture" when we tried to cast the whole store staff to play us when someone finally made the movie of the drama that was B&N #1905.

I got nothing! I thought about anyone that could resemble anyone from the QoD but anyone that I thought of has been mentioned.

This is fun though! Sorry but like everyone I too don't get the whole Scott Wolf thing at all!:)

Mistaken identities within the show?

I know this is awful, but I got Anders mixed up with Lee a lot in stills and other images when I first started watching the show. Even now, I sometimes have to squint to check who is actually in the picture...to the point where I have to wonder if the producers intentionally blurred their physical identities. Basically, in uniform from the back, they don't look that different. :P

Also, I rewatched Kobol's Last Gleaming the other day, and they were totally going for ambiguity in the opening scenes. I'm pretty sure we're meant to think Kara's shagging Lee, not Baltar, until she opens her mouth. :)

As for Kara, though...totally unmistakable throughout.

Pink doesn't physically remind me of Katee, but every time I hear a Pink song I think of Kara...something about Pink's voice and lyrics that remind me of Kara even though I have no idea what Kara's/Katee's singing voice sounds like. The one that most reminds me of Kara is the song Who Knew, because of the lyrics "If someone said three years from now You'd be long gone I'd stand up and punch them out 'cause they're all wrong" because that is so Starbuck to punch someone for saying the wrong thing. Interestingly that particular song also makes me think of Lee because it sounds like it could be Lee's POV (post Maelstrom).

Also the song Pictures of You by the Last Goodnight reminds me of Lee&Kara because of the lyrics "We are the boxers in the ring"

See?

And then there's Xena girl.

I mean, she's not blonde, but doesn't she look just like Number Three?

cheers.
