Hello, Shipper Nation!

Here on the final day of my reign of terror, I'm opening up the floor for questions.  Anything to do with pilots, LJ, fandom-- whatever.  Newbies and old folk, bring whatever you've to the table (no matter how silly it sounds.  Chances are, someone probably has the exact same thing rattling around in their brain.)

So bring forth the questions and our panel of experts shall respond forthwith!**

** Isn't "forthwith" a great word?  I think it's like in my top ten right now.  Right along side "methinks."  And "quash."  Excellent word, quash.

This is a fun question! But my answer is going to be a bit more self-serving than yours, in that I can't handle marriage-to-the-wrong-people-angst anymore, so, in my AU Earth, Lee and Kara are not married to anyone else. The field will be free and open for their fateful meeting :)

When I try to think of careers that might prove to be unexpected fits for them, I come up with:

Kara doing something with kids, maybe juvenile delinquents. She's street savvy, she commands respect as an instructor, she can call people on their crap without alienating them, and for all her anti-maternal attitude she is just beautiful anytime she deals with actual kids (Boxey, Kacey, Hera). I can see her having a lot of friends who went through the system - she wasn't a juvie herself, but she did grow up in foster care after state services took her away from her mother. I think she would get involved as a favor to a friend and be surprised to discover her own talent, while pouring sarcasm on anyone who dared to sugarcoat her kids or her own "do-gooding."

I can see Lee volunteering at the halfway house where she works as part of his college extra-curricular "giving something back to the community" phase. I think he'd be pretty useless at it at first, and Kara would make him feel how inadequately he understands the lives of these kids, and how little she respected him. But Lee rises to a challenge, he makes an effort to think from perspectives outside his own, and he is surprisingly good at leadership (plus he's very easy on the eyes). For all these reasons, he would make a splash with the kids, and Kara would figure out a way to use that.

In my AU Earth, she falls for him first, because that so rarely happens in fic. I don't know what his long-term plans are - he probably doesn't know himself - but I think it would take him a while to notice or believe that her attitude toward him had softened. It would take her a while to notice, too ~ he is *so* not her type. And I'm not sure how he'd react - in his head, he was probably only planning on doing this as a short-term volunteer opportunity, while he waits to do a year abroad mastering languages and seeing the world (OK, maybe the actor is bleeding into the character a bit too much, here).

Anyhow. That's one possibility. Or, you know, superspy accountants.
