Hello, Shipper Nation!
Here on the final day of my reign of terror, I'm opening up the floor for questions. Anything to do with pilots, LJ, fandom-- whatever. Newbies and old folk, bring whatever you've to the table (no matter how silly it sounds. Chances are, someone probably has the exact same thing rattling around in their brain.)
So bring forth the questions and our panel of experts shall respond forthwith!**
** Isn't "forthwith" a great word? I think it's like in my top ten right now. Right along side "methinks." And "quash." Excellent word, quash.

Date: 2010-04-18 05:26 pm (UTC)I for one could care less about the NC (you know how fat!Lee kills my soul.) But I know a lot of other folks like that storyline and so if we wanna watch it, that's cool. I'm also one of those rare souls that isn't bothered by Hero (I like the music), but I can also live without it.
I think no matter what, we defintiely need to watch A Measure of Salvation (if for no other reason than the Black T-Shirt of Hotness).

Date: 2010-04-18 06:13 pm (UTC)I really don't know. Not much was done with the story line anyways in season 4.0, and the strike came between 4.0 and 4.5. It's possible there wasn't much change.
I'd like to hear some theories, though!

Date: 2010-04-18 06:59 pm (UTC)I'm not sure if much in the way of K/L was affected, although it does seems that they were the end game until 4.5 got written. But that was after the strike, no?

Date: 2010-04-18 06:32 pm (UTC)Here's one: What would have happened with Kara and Lee if Kara and Zak had gotten married?

Date: 2010-04-18 07:00 pm (UTC)There could have been some awkward cheaterish things to happen I believe. Unless they never set foot on the same planet again. Physcial distance would be crucial.

Date: 2010-04-18 08:37 pm (UTC)I think Kara was totally in love with Zak when they got together. And in my personal canon Lee pretty much fell in love with Kara from the first moment he met her. To me, Zak & Kara's relationship was one which really tethered Kara, it seems almost innocent to me, incredibly sweet.
But, Kara being Kara, I think that over time a number of problems in that relationship would have begun to assert themselves. And I think, simultaneously, her relationship with Lee would have developed further. Hands down, to my mind, the Lee/Kara dynamic has such depth and complexity... but also has all the inherent heartache and ego that we saw on the show itself.
Do I think Kara would have gone on to cheat on Zak? Definitely a possibility... I think Lee would have railed against it, tried everything to stop himself... but I think there would have been a point where he ended up breaking. But I think he'd have been honest to Zak about it.
Y'know... Lee and Kara have that whole Scarlett and Rhett thing going on... and by that comparison, Zak is a little bit like Ashley. (Though, only a bit.)

Favorites?
Date: 2010-04-18 06:43 pm (UTC)For me, I would answer as follows:
Favorite Kara episode: Maelstrom
Favorite Lee episode: Crossroads II
Favorite K/L episode: The Captain's Hand
Favorite KS scene as an actress: confrontation with EJO in Act of Contrition
Favorite JB scene as an actor: under the viper wing in Maelstrom and, oddly enough, telling Kara about Dee's suicide in SaGN. He kills me in both scenes.
Best wishes to everyone!
PS - And one technical question: How much older than Kara is Lee supposed to be? How much younger than Kara and Lee was Zak? Thanks!
Re: Favorites?
Date: 2010-04-18 07:06 pm (UTC)Favorite Kara episode: You Can't Go Home Again
Favorite Lee episode: Bastille Day
Favorite K/L episode: Colonial Day
Favorite KS scene as an actress: All of Kara's scenes with Leoben in the NC arc. Just really brilliant stuff. Esp. when she kills him then goes back to eating dinner. That scene is just so horribly wonderfully creepy and insane-- yet civilized. I adore the contradiction.
Favorite JB scene as an actor: For some reason, his performance in Revelations really stuck with me. It's as if the character turned a big page at that moment.
The age issue--
I don't think this was ever clearly sorted out. I think it's always been accepted that Lee was either slightly older than Kara of they were about the same age, and also accpeted that Kara was somewhat older than Zak. I always figured Kara was 3 years old than Zak, and Lee was probably 2-4 years older than Kara.

Date: 2010-04-18 09:04 pm (UTC)The conventional wisdom either has both of them in the military, or Kara as an artist or maybe a mechanic. Lee is usually involved in the law as a civil servant/politician or a lawyer. Which makes sense. Those careers are an extension of what we saw on the show. But I do rather enjoy when they take more unusual paths, since I think they'd be quite different without the heightened environment of the TV series. (I also like fic that isn't set in a large American city, though I can't complain because I've written several of those myself. ;)
I see Kara working some type of physical job, maybe as a therapist or personal trainer or HS coach. Something active but not necessarily with an incredible future. She tried college for a while, but she got tired of it. She hangs out in sports bars a lot, not necessarily because she's a big sports fan, but because she likes the atmosphere. She can be a pretty obnoxious customer sometimes -- but in an endearing way -- and once in a while she thinks about becoming a bartender or buying her own place. She mostly dates casually, though she had a long relationship a few years back that burned her on the whole concept. She's definitely a live-in-the-moment person, but she's starting to hit that point in her life where she thinks she should be a bit more settled.
I must say that it's almost impossible to picture Lee outside of politics or a law firm! Even seeing Jamie as Matt Devlin skews things in my brain, because that's the kind of contemporary life I see for him. But, for the purposes of this question, I think he'd work at some do-gooder nonprofit or even as a high school teacher. He got married a few years after college and now has a pleasant life in the suburbs. They all go to church on Sunday, not because he has a strong belief in God, but because he wants his kids to have that sense of community and tradition. His wife is nice, the kids are nice, everything is nice. When he ventures downtown for whatever reason, he sometimes envies those with brighter, more chaotic lives. But he can also get judgmental about them. After all, he's gotten his life together.
Or, y'know, they could be pairs figure skaters. ;)
