DPP: Long-winded thoughts on Kara/Lee...with Lee Celebration to follow

Hiya Shipper Nation, 

I’ve been pondering the state of our ship tonight and started thinking about the classifications of shippers as “Kara people” or “Lee people”. It’s a bit of an odd phenomenon, but it seems that many of us identify so completely with one or the other of them, that we actually came to be shippers after falling in love with either Kara or Lee and then acknowledging the obvious truth that they were meant for each other. (As opposed to falling for the couple first and then coming to appreciate its individual parts.) 

We then seem to develop love for the other side of the coupling almost because we love the first character so much that we want their emotional/spiritual/romantic life to be successful. Maybe I am biased because this is the road I followed into shipperdom, having first fallen in love with Kara, then with Kara/Lee, and finally with Lee individually as I paid more attention to him. However, despite my possible bias, I know I have heard similar stories from at least a few of you, so I’m not completely alone in this phenomenon.

Therefore, I’d like to spend the next two days focusing on our pilots as individuals so that we may better appreciate them as a couple. Since I’ve seen more lists extolling Kara’s awesomeness than I have Lee lists, I think we should start with Lee. Come on guys, the boy deserves his own list!!  (If you've already made one, please feel free to post a link!) 

P.S.--I don’t want this post to become Kara vs. Lee (gods know they do that to themselves enough on their own!). Also, maybe this is my naïve desire to find the best in people, but it’s next to impossible for me to comprehend loving one part of K/L without loving the other. Anyhow, this post is not the place to debate who did what to whom on New Caprica, etc. We are now officially celebrating, folks!! We are still alive and kicking one year after the worst finale in history. So…Thursday is Lee day, Friday is Kara day, Saturday is Kara/Lee day, and Sunday is Kara/Lee Shippers day. Thus proclaimeth the Trooper Kitty.

Awww, yay for the Lee love! He was the first character I fell in love with on BSG, right from the moment he gave that little pissy face of discontent before getting out of his Viper in the miniseries :D And he's the character who kept me watching even when I HATED what they were doing to him and the direction the show had taken, and he's the character who will make sure I never quite cut my ties. OK, so this is almost a year to the day since my LAST post of Lee Adama Love (http://queenofthorns.livejournal.com/425091.html) with visual aids. But just in case you don't feel like clicking over, here, in a nutshell is why I love Lee:

He's always been my point of entry into this world of BSG - because he's so human - no special destiny, no visions, no larger-than-life attributes. Just human - petty and vengeful, but also brave and principled, selfish and self-sacrificing, pragmatic and idealistic, Lee, more than most people on the show, has always been willing to roll the hard six, no matter what it cost him, while simultaneously being capable of being a dork (and sometimes a jerk.) But he's fundamentally a good and decent man, and the few surviving humans on BSG could do a lot worse than to have him as their representative.

Thank you, thank you for these links. I especially appreciated your "Lee Adama (and JB) Love". I hadn't seen the pic of JB and baby in Starbuck's viper; it frakking rocks! Also agreed with you that JB is completely underrated. He's brilliant. Finally, your point that bsg made us *care* so much is well taken. No way would we still all be here chatting, even when angsty, if bsg and K/L hadn't given us so many spectacular moments.

Thanks also for the vid recs; it's nice to have some music to go with our pilot love.

Yeah, I think after working through all my finale rage, that's my final takeaway! (And I don't think I'm ever going to be able to give up on K/L entirely, you know?)
