DPP: Long-winded thoughts on Kara/Lee...with Lee Celebration to follow

Hiya Shipper Nation, 

I’ve been pondering the state of our ship tonight and started thinking about the classifications of shippers as “Kara people” or “Lee people”. It’s a bit of an odd phenomenon, but it seems that many of us identify so completely with one or the other of them, that we actually came to be shippers after falling in love with either Kara or Lee and then acknowledging the obvious truth that they were meant for each other. (As opposed to falling for the couple first and then coming to appreciate its individual parts.) 

We then seem to develop love for the other side of the coupling almost because we love the first character so much that we want their emotional/spiritual/romantic life to be successful. Maybe I am biased because this is the road I followed into shipperdom, having first fallen in love with Kara, then with Kara/Lee, and finally with Lee individually as I paid more attention to him. However, despite my possible bias, I know I have heard similar stories from at least a few of you, so I’m not completely alone in this phenomenon.

Therefore, I’d like to spend the next two days focusing on our pilots as individuals so that we may better appreciate them as a couple. Since I’ve seen more lists extolling Kara’s awesomeness than I have Lee lists, I think we should start with Lee. Come on guys, the boy deserves his own list!!  (If you've already made one, please feel free to post a link!) 

P.S.--I don’t want this post to become Kara vs. Lee (gods know they do that to themselves enough on their own!). Also, maybe this is my naïve desire to find the best in people, but it’s next to impossible for me to comprehend loving one part of K/L without loving the other. Anyhow, this post is not the place to debate who did what to whom on New Caprica, etc. We are now officially celebrating, folks!! We are still alive and kicking one year after the worst finale in history. So…Thursday is Lee day, Friday is Kara day, Saturday is Kara/Lee day, and Sunday is Kara/Lee Shippers day. Thus proclaimeth the Trooper Kitty.

Ok, so I am a Lee-centric K/L shipper. I love and adore Kara, but Lee pushes my buttons. Many of the reasons that I love Lee also frustrate the hell out of me.

1. He always tries to do the right thing, even if it fraks him in the end.
2. He cries when he is sad.
3. He rolls the hard six, even when it might be risking Kara's life.
4. He's full of anger, but channels it into work instead.
5. When he loves someone, he is loyal to a fault (except for his father, but that's another story).
6. He forgives, even when he shouldn't.
7. He takes responsibility for his actions.
8. He takes power when offered, but does not seek it out.
9. He's not afraid to run up to Kara and hug her.
10. He touches faces as a sign of love. O.M.G. *wibbles*

Like any good love interest, there are things about Lee that make me crazy.
1. He knows what he wants (Kara) but does not take action.
2. He never chases her down after an argument.
3. He's willing to settle instead of risking it all.

And on a more superficial note, I love Lee because he's frakking gorgeous.

Oh Shipper, these are awesome reasons. When you write them down I totally recognize them all as part of the reason I love Lee too. I just can't seem to put my Lee reasons into words the way I can for Kara. That's why we must have both Lee-centric and Kara-centric shippers to do our wonder twins justice!

Truly, I love the emotional honesty behind each of these reasons. Thank you.
