A little mystery to figure out...

So today I thought it might be fun to imagine conversations other characters on the show could've had with and about pilots. They were always so private with their emotions for each other and guarded about expressing them, and yet we all get the impression that how they felt about each other was one of the worst kept secrets on Galactica. If you were to imagine other characters feeling the need to talk to pilots about their relationship...how do you think they'd do it? What frame of reference context would it come out of?

For example...

would Chief have a discussion with either one about breaking frat regs?
would D'Anna show one of them some unseen footage that got shot for the documentary?
would Bill discuss the nature of Kara and Zak's relationship with Lee?
would Gaeta have words for either one of them about hurting Dee?
would the other pilots sit around wagering on various things for the "the pool"?
would Laura have more words for Lee about what he did--pulling the CAP to find Kara in YCGHA....or about that kiss she witnessed in Home?

Let your imagination run wild and discuss. Feel free to write a drabble or ficlet if any of the ideas grab you...

It's hard to imagine anyone talking to them about it at all, because their entire relationship, came with such huge blinking "DON'T EVEN GO THERE." signs, and I think they applied that to themselves as much as to other people.

And it really sucks that the only two people they ever got relationship advice from,i.e. Tigh and Chief, were two of the biggest hypocrites alive - they of all people knew what it was like to be in love with the wrong people/people they couldn't have.

(also, Chief flat-out lied, telling Lee he'd never had any regrets/ thought of what could have been, when the first thing he told Boomer on her return in S4 was that he hadn't gone a day without thinking of her).

It is hard. It would have to be really subtle/obtuse conversations I'd bet. Probably cloaked in some sort of subterfuge or just with subtext. Which is actually really awesome if you can pull it off (in a fic)...just....difficult!

Lol. I don't know how Lee didn't see through what Chief said. IT WAS SOOO OBVIOUSLY A LIE.

Interesting subject. And since now my mood is way better than during the day (thank you again for that) I can actuallythink an theorize about that.

Going with your questions I would say:

- yes, but more internally than externally
- no, she didnt; really had the time for that. maybe after the "peace treaty" if they would have time
- Hell no.... Bill and Lee actually speaking about feeling? Seriously *S1 Grey's face to be inserted*
- yes, he would but they were his superior officers and viper pilots and all of that so he would not express them
- oh yeah.....I can really imagine Kat and Hotdog and people speaking about them and suddenly becoming very silent when somebody from the QoD or even Helo or Athena would come in the room.
- Laura.... this one is hard. I had the distinct impression that she stepped down from the point where she and Lee would really talk about things after Kobol. IDK if it was her relationship with Adama or Lee getting more military duties or what he said in the brig but she did. So... here I really don't know what to say..... She had obviously opinions about it but I don't think that she would have felt the need to express them. Maybe after their little talk in "No Exit"?

and now going outside of your original list.... the 2 persons who we know for sure that were not the shy type are Romo and Zarek. And yes, I do believe that they would have at least try to tease (lacking a better word) Lee about it.

Yeah, I think Romo would be the most likely candidate, because when he first met Lee he didn't know who Kara was and didn't obey the "DON'T EVEN GO THERE" signs that most people usually do around pilots.

He's one of the very few people to actually acknowledge what one of them means to the other, come to think of that. No one outside the QoD does that.

Baltar's the only other one I can think of--when he says to lee "must everything be reduced to your feelings for that woman?" in Islanded.

Yes, and no. I mean, they are people who acknowledge in one way or another (like the Chief) but they are not so many people comfortable enough to express it.

But at the end of the line YES. and yeah I would like to have been a fly on the wall when Romo spoke about that. (btw, I swear that this has nothing to do with the fact that I really like Mark Sheppard and JB together on my screen).

Early on, I think he wouldn't dare. Later on, I think he wouldn't care.

I don't think she would have the opportunity or any reason to do so. However, she might have shown it to Laura and Bill, since they wanted to see what she shot. That would have been interesting, especially for Bill. Maybe he would finally get a clue. LOL.

He was so clueless that he might as well have. Boy, would that have been awkward for Lee. :(

Why not? In the end, he wasn't very pleased with either of them and was so angry anyway.

I actually expected something like that at one time, during the Kobol arc. She had been so teasing with Billy when he was flirting with Dee that even though she wasn't nearly as close to Lee, I believe she was close enough back then to tease a little.

Seriously. After UB, I was just "PapAdama IS CLUELESS", with a special level of denseness for anything related to Kara and Lee.

I think Sharon (Athena) and Helo MUST have had that conversation. It's clear from UBEX that Sharon knows some stuff about their history, and Helo is Starbuck's bro (in my heart they are besties), plus, those two are totally gossips. They just are.

In terms of people talking TO pilots, I think Bill probably talked to Lee about Kara and Zak quite a bit, because it might be one of the only "safe" ways for him to talk to Lee about Zak without them getting into a fight about it. AND I do feel like Gaeta might have tried to have it out with Starbuck on one of those days when he was feeling righteous and big brotherly, and I like to think that she was nice to him about it.

I think Laura would never have said anything. It was enough for her to notice and understand, I think...
