So Sacrifice brings us some indelible moments in Pilots history (Did anyone say "Massive Angst"? Oh goody!) But it also gives us CIVILIAN WEAR! HURRAH.





   

So while Kara's getting busy "volunteering," Lee's getting busy.... with ELLEN TIGH? (Ok, I know it's not pilots but I thougth this little move with the hand over her mouth and then the shhh... was pretty damn hot. He could've tried that one on Kara...maybe it would've led to better things!)

 

Oh right and also did we mention the MASSIVE ANGST?

But that's the thing, they just suddenly decided after the res ship arc in which Kara comes out rather triumphant, not having to kill Cain and being promoted to Captain and making that eulogy where she gets to take the moral high ground (I guess), then suddenly came this weird string of eps where Lee is suicidal and Kara is self-doubting and it all goes downhill from there.

I know the show framed it as her being completely distracted by not being able to get back to save Sam and these Capricans but...that's always felt pretty contrived for me too. Not that Kara wouldn't care at all but that 1) she'd care so much about this one-night stand she'd had (admittedly at a vulnerable time in her life) that it incapacitates her professionally; and b) that she also wouldn't be able to realize the futility of this kind of mission. I mean the latter hinges on the former. Yes, she hates the farms but she's not going back to save every person in every farm ever, she's arguing to go back to save this small group of resistance fighters, and that has to be about Sam...which is something that just doesn't make sense to me based on the previous characterization of Kara--as being such a guarded soul.

It's all a falling string of dominoes I guess. But it's sort of puzzling to me that they took it in this direction at all.
