So Sacrifice brings us some indelible moments in Pilots history (Did anyone say "Massive Angst"? Oh goody!) But it also gives us CIVILIAN WEAR! HURRAH.





   

So while Kara's getting busy "volunteering," Lee's getting busy.... with ELLEN TIGH? (Ok, I know it's not pilots but I thougth this little move with the hand over her mouth and then the shhh... was pretty damn hot. He could've tried that one on Kara...maybe it would've led to better things!)

 

Oh right and also did we mention the MASSIVE ANGST?

I think my favorite K/L song is "The Special Two" by Missy Higgins, and I am really surprised that I cannot seem to find any fanvids on youtube using it. I swear there were a bunch at one time.

Ha, my Sacrifice playlist wouldn't be complete without Crossfire by Kasey Chambers. I can't find a video on youtube, but if anyone's dying to hear it, it was in the Starbuck playlist I posted on my journal back in December. But anyway, it's called Crossfire. How could it not apply to this episode?

This episode is angst special. Oh the drama! The pain! The hearbreak!

I just want to hug the pilots and may be smack Lee a few times for going out with Dee. Shoot her for breaking poor little Billy's heart and not even caring when he died.

Kara definitely came to visit when no one was around. I would bet my life on that. I don't care if Dee was hovering but my girl came to see him.

Oh and the sad faces just wanna make me cry.

CIVVIES! PRETTY SHIRT! PRETTY KARA! You know my love of off-duty Kara in this ep. I think I need to find myself a pretty civvie Kara icon.

I wonder what she had been up to on leave. Was she barhopping and flirting and generally having a good time for once? I bet that she was. And am I mistaken, or is this the only time we actually see her hair totally down once she gets back to Galactica in season two?

I wanna know who the hell she was barhopping with. Maybe alone I guess. (I'm so glad they didn't like make her drunk and that's why she shot Lee or anything like that.) And I find it odd that both Lee and Kara are on leave at the same time. What is Hot Dog and Kat minding the fort? ;)

Awww Civvie!Pilots. They both looked great, Lee not so much with the hole in his chest but before that...awesome. She looks beautiful as always. I liked that black shirt on her too. Our pilots are most fashionable!

I'm re-writing the episode summary in my head.

I like the idea that they were on leave at the same time. Maybe walking around before they were hitting the bars, him meeting Dee and her just barhopping to stop thinking but they are both contemplating what they were doing with Dee or Sam. So sure, they run into each other at that same garden with the water hoses. They talk, make veiled references at how there are important people in their lives, not knowing what to do but it won't go away, been there a long time etc etc. He decides that whatever is happening with Dee isn't right because he wants Kara so he tells her he's going to the bar to break it off and Kara decides that she can't be hung up on Sam anymore and says she's going to try to stop being "hung up on the dead guys". There is smiling and implied happiness that they want each other. I see hand holding, an epic pilot hug and a "I'll see you around Kara Thrace". Then all hell breaks loose and she still ends up shooting him, gets woobie, pulls back when she sees Dee there but sneaks back in later to watch him sleep, he wakes up and says he's glad she's there and asks her not to leave. She stays, Dee shows up in the morning and sees them together and realizes she has no chance. Takes Lee some time to recover but there is talking and bonding and healing, finally the outmaking ensues with a healthy dose of pilot sexing to celebrate...and they all lived happily ever after.

Now I should probably go back to work...hehe.

Yes! Absolutely. And she thought about how she'd nearly killed another one of Adama's sons and how her mother was right and she was poison to everyone around her and how she'd never be able to tell Lee what he meant to her, because look at what just happened. Poor Kara!

Ohhhhhh, angst. Our pilots are so good at it, are they not? I had to rewatch this episode a number of times for writing purposes, and the look on Kara's face as she's calling Adama just SLAYS me, every time. I want to reach through the screen and give her a massive hug. :(

Pilots are so sad here. I remember the first time I watched this getting a horrible sinking feeling when Kara grabbed the hat and "volunteered". There was just no way it was going to turn out well.

And you know what? Needlessly so. If this episode had happened in Season One? Starbuck would totally have saved the frakking day.

(Of course then even more folks would've griped about her being a Mary Sue/too perfect, but still... The show too, a real turn toward the all-consuming nihilism post-Peggy arrival. Sigh.)

I've always really disliked Kara's outfit in "Sacrifice". It looks totally unlike something Kara Thrace would wear, even if going to a bar with hopes of getting laid. Too much makeup, weird-fitting shirt, and the whole look is just unflattering, IMO.

(Oops, Tara, broke my vow to be less negative...)

On the other hand, I love when she's civilian-ish and more natural. She is *gorgeous* in those New Caprica scenes (which feel very civvie even though she's in her BDUs.) And I also love some of those shots from STWOM. I tend to prefer her with either short hair or long hair very loosely tied back; to me, that feels more Kara-ish. (Though right now I'm having her go clothes/lingerie shopping to impress a guy, which is kind of hilarious. :)

Heh I totally disagree. I think it's very "Kara on the prowl" looking. Just because she's a tomboy/jock in her daily life doesn't necessarily mean she wouldn't dress nice and do the hair/makeup to go out. She clearly did for Colonial Day. I think it's canonical.

I love Kara's civvie outfit in this, does anyone have caps? I remember looking a while ago and not being able to find anything good.

I also have to confess...I didn't really find her all that attractive until around this episode. Even seeing her dressed up in Colonial Day, I think that dress is unflattering to Katee's figure. I loved Starbuck from the get-go, but I just never thought she was beautiful until the end of Season 2. I don't know what it was, but her look finally clicked for me here, when she was in black, obviously dressed up for a night out.

I'm pretty sure I'm in the minority here.

frak-that.com is where I got the caps but they're not really high quality (unless you download I guess. And they all are from the bustline up pretty much. I've seen other full-length pics of her but I'm not sure where...

I didn't think she was all that attractive in the mini because of the awful haircut (though in the very first scene I thought they were obviously aiming for hot-to-trot with it all sweaty/slicked back) but I kind of fell in love with her face soon after. I can't really pinpoint when now. But when I love someone either characterwise or in real life, I lose all perspective on how they look, because I just think ooh gorgeous.

(That being said, I didn't like the colonial day getup either that much. I thought they could've done better for a knockout moment frankly. But I love her hair later when she's standing between lee and crashdown at the triad table.)
