DPP: You Give Fic A Bad Name
Feb. 20th, 2012 09:45 amHello, fellow pilots shippers! I'm
kl_shipper1 and I'll be driving the DPP bus this week. This is my first time leading this thing, so bear with me.
I've been around fandoms long enough to see that there are certain genres of fic that have a reputation for being badfic-- for example, babyfic and songfic. So, my question for you all today is:
Why do these types of fic automatically get such a bad reputation? Is this the case in the BSG fandom? With pilots fic?
(Also, feel free to rec some fics that you feel are examples of these genres done well.)

Maybe I kind of do think there's an ideal (at least, some moralizing about what motherhood supposedly *ought* to look like?) lurking behind all the implied criticism of Socrata/Carolanne, and the (odd) veneration of Six/Sharon as maternal figures. But you mostly see it in negative--by what a good mother is *not*.
3) Yeah! I'm in favor of babyfic--even when it bugs me, which is kinda often, it's SO interesting--but there needs to be all kinds more! And maybe we need to be talking about the fluff! variety as a subcategory ('cause I think some people above are writing about babyfic like it's all kinda fluffy?)
I think maybe I've seen that scene in Scar? I'm probably gonna have to find a minute to rewatch it this week, though. I might have babyfic on the brain for a few days, now.
