Since Kara and Lee were able to operate pretty well as cops together, it would have been awesome if (in response to a problem going on in colonial civilian life, maybe something in, uh, the black market?) the two of them had been implanted on a civilian ship to basically do an undercover operation. For some reason most of the episodes that showed us what was going on in the civilian areas rather than with the military folks ended up being some of the worst, to the point that it almost came off that all civilians were just obnoxious. The idea that a lot of criminal activity was going on unmonitored by the fleet was an interesting idea but so badly handled in Black Market, and I think if we'd seen pilots having to dive right into a sub-culture among the survivors they were not completely comfortable with (rather than one of them just take up with a hooker with no real explanation), making an effort to understand that it isn't all fun and games just because you don't have a military duty, it would have been an interesting way to explore that social tension. And come on, who wouldn't have loved to see them have to fake being a happily married couple or something?

To be honest I'm torn on the "faking being married" not because the shipper in me wouldn't totally love it, but I go back and forth on wanting the show to have been a bit more traditional in hewing to romantic tropes like other shows would have (meaning K/L would never have married other people and would've gotten together at the end) and being aware that one of the things that wowed me while I was watching it was how bold and unconventional it was and that it DIDN'T hew to those familiar tropes.

(Needless to say, in hindsight, I wish it had been a lot more conventional in some ways, esp w/r/t pilots and their ending.)

For me it would have depended on how it was handled, cause for the most part I think they'd be professional and just do it and playing the role would have been as simple as "If somebody asks, he's your husband." I can't really imagine it being realistic or fitting to have all those cheesy "I guess we need to kiss now! You know, for realism!" romantic comedy moments, but I could just see having somebody like Karl find it really funny like, "You're gonna have to be his wife?" and Kara telling him to frak off cause it's a bit awkward.

I would've liked a better ending for Kara & Lee. The show gave almost nobody a happy ending, but the poof is just ridiculous. Disapprove, RDM!

The show's omission of happy same-sex pairings is pretty big. We get Gina & Cain, an unhealthy relationship premised on secrets; there's a webisode with Gaeta & Hoshi; and that's it. I would've liked to see Kara sleep with a woman while she was tearing her way through the hearts of Fleet members. Maybe Lee would've slept with a few guys when he was bored and lonely.

I think it would've been interesting to see Carolanne Adama, whether it was in a scene with Bill, with Lee, with Zak & Kara--we see how awful Socrata was to Kara, but we only hear about Carolanne.

After Roslin outlawed abortion, I was surprised they didn't make one of the pilots deal with this on a personal level. Having Kara deal with this might've been a really interesting storyline because of her simultaneous belief in the gods and her pragmatism.

I really, really hate that halfway through the series they randomly made Carolanne a bad parent. It seems both unnesesary and unfair to Kara whose childhood abuse shaped her character.

I did think that retconning was a bit strange, although I like it (in fic) as a point of connection for Lee and Kara? That they both knew what it was to have crappy childhoods. Too bad the show never even made it clear whether or not Lee knew about the abuse. Though I like to think of course he did.

See, I think that the similarity in upbringings for Lee and Kara is what disappoints me about making Carolanne an alcoholic. I like that they're very different people. And Lee's childhood was flawed enough by having an absentee dad.

I guess it just feels to me like a very cheap way to amp up Lee's mainpain.

I nearly put that and then deleted it bc all I could here is the airlock line. He was so damn angry at her. I guess, that said, I'd like to see his reaction to her imprisonment once they'd made up. I imagine it would be a difficult scene. :(

I guess I've always assumed that he'd read the reports in canon and was just too pissed off to care. I'm not exactly sure how I feel about that - makes him incredibly hard in a way that I understand but don't like. IDK.

I'm not sure how much her relationship with Sam would've mattered at that point? I guess it would take a bit of a different set of actions for him to even find out that they were split. I think he could probably hold onto the bitterness for a long long time. It took a brutal physical fight to break through for them. I'm not sure how it could have worked any other way except AU.

But I've always wondered what Kara would have admitted to in a report. (The same as with her time on Caprica and in the farm). I don't think she would feel any need to put anything more in than was required certainly nothing that would open her up too much.

Although I do think it would take a lot for Lee to actually do something before the dance because he's so angry and hurt. Which does paint him in a not so great light. I just want him to be better. :(

I guess I'm on the other side of the fence than you are about these various events and how Kara would report them. I always felt that she did provide some of the details about the farms and about her captivity because that was the purpose of the report - that somehow some detail would help the Fleet defeat the cylons. IDK. It's not like she put her feelings into the report. I can imagine her very coldly just writing it all down and not looking back. Not every detail, but enough.

Exactly, especially if her anger was directed at something he could imagine being angry at, but I think he really wanted to be different from all the things Kara found to lash out so feeling those negative emotions from her was really hard for him. But I think Lee felt all of that without realizing how he contributed to her feeling hurt and angry. :(

AI with everything you listed, but my specific wish is this:

- Lee and Kara confronting the hooker thing in Black Market. That episode would have made 100% more sense if they'd left out the random preggo girlfriend and had Lee dealing with the blonde who was REALLY on his brain (and who, to my shock, never even made an appearance in it - what a letdown).

- Lee watching out for Kara after Sam was shot (there's no way he would not have tried to make her stop beating herself up so much, and he's obviously posted on Sam's condition but I'd have liked to SEE it, y'know?), likewise Kara and Lee after learning of Dee's death. '

I love every part of pilots, but this is where they could have used each other's friendship so much, as it is Kara going to tell Lee about her corpse on NC makes me cry every time because it's such a big step for her to even be considering telling someone that something is wrong. I wish she'd told him that she WANTED to tell him about finding her corpse on New!Earth, too.

- More of Lee and Kara pre-mini (they were happy! Maybe secretly in love and having angst/mixed feelings about that, but the world hadn't ended and Kara hadn't begun beating herself up about dead lovers/lovers she fears she'll kill yet).

This one is more a what-if than another episode, but since the collective goal seems to be fixing s3 & s4:

If Kara survived her viper exploding but was badly injured. What would it do to Lee who loves her but has no rights? What would do to the fleet to see their heroic pilot injured? To Galactica to know that Starbuck was suicidal? Would Kara recover? Would she be the same?

I also wish we had seen Kara talking to Lee after she shot him in Sacrifice. It just seems weird that they wouldn't talk at all (apparently) for a month. The whole hooker thing should have come up again also.
As matter of fact, I think the whole Black Market/crime/difficulties faced by the civilians in the fleet should have warranted more attention. What did the civilian government do after all? I suppose they would have more important things to do than to discuss religious issues and petty political disputes.
