I don't think this is what she needed after NC, really. Here she feels guilt and needs forgiveness. After NC she is filled with rage and kinda does need to be knocked on her ass to bring her to her senses. I might be one of the only ones who saw that scene as "tough love" rather than heartless rejection though. ;)

I know, I used to think it was a "tough love" not a 'throw you out of the house' ultimatum at the time. But watching the subsequent episodes, I got to thinking he really did push her out of the circle a bit and tried to close his heart to her (only for him to regret it only after Maelstrom). They have very few time stogether between the chair and Maelstrom, and always is was Kara being submissive, apologetic, tentative, reaching. I just felt a real loss of a father figure for our girl.
