DPP: Whose Line is it Anyway?
Sep. 7th, 2011 10:55 amKara clearly thinks it's Lee's line.
There are so many quotable/iconic lines from our pilots...but I was wondering what would happen to some of them if you did a little switch?
What if it were a jealous Kara who said to Lee: "You're just a pilot who can't keep his pants on!" or maybe a religious Lee said to Kara: "I can't cheat. It's a sin."?
What about other lines? Which ones are interchangeable (mission/job stuff?) and which ones change everything?
Your mission, soldiers? Pick a line that Kara or Lee says in canon, and write a plausible scenario (as a drabble or just describe it, if you don’t write fic) as to how the other person could be the one to say it. Feel free to change the scenario/circumstances around its delivery entirely!
Example: I once joked that someone should write a smutty fic where Lee's "After You" was totally a bet/dare thing with Kara, where they were trying to see who could make the other one climax first. Hee. FEEL FREE TO START WITH THAT ONE IF YOU LIKE. ;)

Date: 2011-09-07 06:46 pm (UTC)I know that this is absolutely not who Lee is as a character, but I would have loved to see him chewing out Kara when she briefly outranks him in the Pegasus arc and is trying to adjust to being CAG, just like she did with him in 33 when he was struggling to adapt to being CAG. It was what he needed at the time (even with it being in her own special Kara way), and I kind of like the idea of it being what she would need at the time, in that first tentative moment of being CAG. Admittedly Kara would say and do the right things in a way that Lee never did because Kara is all about bravado, but I'd love to see him spot something and pick at it.
If you don't mind me reccing something, I recently enjoyed

Date: 2011-09-07 07:23 pm (UTC)Kara stays in the battle and doesn't know whether Lee made it. When she comes back and sees him walking in the hall, she is so happy that she shoves him against the nearest bulkhead and kisses him. Lee then says: "Good to see you too captain", to which Kara replies: "Remind me to send you to the brig later".

Date: 2011-09-07 07:06 pm (UTC)I can also definitely hear Lee saying at some point around mid-season 3: "Enough of that. The only destiny I have is as a world class frak-up."
I think if we'd seen more of Kara and Kendra in Razor, Kara might have gotten to deliver some lines from Lee's Crossroads monologue. "That's not justice. Not to me. Not to me."
I also think it might have been interesting to see Kara deliver Lee's lines to Bill after she came back from the dead: "What if it were Zak who'd come back to us in that plane? If your son had climbed out of that cockpit, would it really matter if he were a Cylon? If he always had been? When all's said and done, would that change how we really feel about him?"
And I think Kara's words to her phantom!Dad in Someone to Watch Over Me could easily fit into Lee's mouth, about his own Dad or even about himself: "You start a family, the going gets tough, you ditch them? Did you ever stop thinking about yourself long enough to consider what you did to your kid?"

Honestly, I love the idea of this, but it's hard for me to come up with anything as their voices are both so uniquely 'them'. Except maybe a lot of the military jargon stuff. Although I could envision a scene where Lee lets out his own personal vulnerability show with a 'are you sure I'm what you want?' to Kara. Maybe in Taking A Break...after she offers to leave Sam. Idk, I'm blanking on this one.
