DPP: Supportive Sunday

Hello everyone :) I hope you're all having a lovely Sunday :) A couple of housekeepingy bits before I reveal today's DPP.

Over at yesterday's post there's a lot of excellent prompts so please do fire up your muse and see if you can write a response to one of them. The only ficlet we have so far in response is here by kdbleu, so please do drop in, read it, and leave her a comment in response :)

There are still discussions continuing and a couple of new secrets appearing on Friday's Confessional DPP so if you have the time, do wander back over there and check it out and keep joining in. The discussions are incredibly interesting.

Today's DPP is Supportive Sunday. This is twofold really.

1. Please do share the things that you do within fandom to be supportive to the people in it - go into detail if you feel like it as to why you do what you do.


2. Say something supportive in this post. You can direct it at the members of the community in general, or specific members if you would rather - maybe if the person in question has produced something/is responsible for something that you feel is particularly noteworthy.

So go forth and make your fellow shippers feel the love :)

Things I do to be supportive

In the past I have been dreadful at leaving comments on fic - I'd read them and move on. I'm turning over a new leaf however because I've been lurking at bsg_epics and it was mentioned recently that it can be disheartening if people don't comment - which made a lot of sense. So to be supportive I'm trying to remember to leave some comment on every fic I read.

I'm also really trying to comment on DPPs, because someone is going to the effort of thinking of stuff and it seems only fair they don't feel like they're shouting into the darkness. It doesn't always work out that way, but I am trying to remember.

You are all amazing here at no_takebacks. I love how you've all jumped in to this week's DPPs with both feet. I've really enjoyed running them for you because of the response I've had.

I want to bring particular love to sci_fi_shipper and taragel who seem to be behind a lot of the continuing love for our characters, and the continuing life in our ship. They run leeadama_daily and karathracelives respectively and organised pilots_presents summer fic exchange (please do go over there if you've not read the fics there yet). taragel also organises the DPP schedule and keeps us focusing on this amazing ship, so the comm doesn't end up dormant.

I guess the most anyone can do to support the fandom is simply be involved in it - read the comms, comment (on DPPs here, fics elsewhere) and generally be nice to each other. Because without people on the comms, we'd pretty much be floundering alone wondering if we're loonies to feel the way we do about these characters - I know I would, anyway - and fandom is really about sharing love. Well, that and getting a sympathetic ear to bitch about the bad parts with :)

I'd noticed that when I was doing some poking around, and it's a real pleasure to be involved with such an active comm - where everyone has been so welcoming too.

Late to the party but I thought I'd chime in.

I'm not nearly as active in fandom as I used to be-- part of that comes from real life getting in the way, part from conflicted feelings I have for the way the show ended. Part I think was just due to a natural fatigue that just seems like an inevitable part of the cycle of fandom. But I do appreciate the enthusiasm and it warms my heart that fandom keeps marching on. It warms my heart that I don't know most of the people who've replied to this post b/c it just proves the fact that it goes on. The love goes on. The excitement and the conversations and the thinky thoughts go on. And in that way it's a wonderful affirmation that what we care about and what brings us together matters. And so do we.

And that's my warm and fuzzy message for the day. **sprinkles some glitter on for good measure**

It's always nice when you do get drawn back in :) As a newer person it's brilliant to still see the older people posting :) And I always love seeing even newer people show up too - totally get what you mean about it going on :)

As a very late, but enthusiastic, latecomer to this ship I try to jump up & down and yell and cheer and thank and generally be as joyfully grateful as I can be to ALL of you who keep the love alive!! I hate that I'm so late to the party but I'm delighted every day that y'all are here! New fic, brilliant new fic shows up every day, and there are tons of others, classics and epics that I still haven't read. There are years of archives to peruse, chock full of brilliant meta and art and recs and crack and I am so happy to have every morsel. And delighted that so many of you have been around for so long.
As a matter of fact, all my fandom time now is dedicated to Pilots because I have so little free time and when I can I want to support the DPP and all the writing etc so you guys keep doing it! I'm dragging as many ppl as I can into BSG as fast as I can so I want there to be cool stuff for them some day...and for my grandchildren :P

So if I'm quiet, it's because I work full time @ night and have 2 kids and a husband and it's not because I don't want to share the love! Also, I try to jump in but I'm often late & also I'm sucha n00b so I might not know what I'm talking about and also? I'm glad y'all are as friendly & welcoming as you are! So....I'll just....go....back.... :))
