DPP: Sci-fi Tuesday

There was some awesome ranting yesterday which brought up some excellent points that I hadn't really considered much before, so if you're feeling a bit angry today, or just fancy catching up with what was said yesterday, go take a look :)

Today I was thinking it would be fun to speculate on Pilots in other sci-fi settings.

Some ideas for examples:

Doctor Who: What would they be like fighting alongside The Doctor? What would they make of Daleks? Would they find Cybermen similar enough to chromejobs to be just more of the same?

Star Wars: I've seen it said before that the raid on the Tylium facility in Hand of God was rather like some of the imagery of the Rebels trying to destroy the Death Star - what if they really were?

Farscape: In pocochina's OMG me too post deborah_judge mentioned she'd like to see Hybrid!Sam&Galactica meeting Pilot&Moya, which seems like a pretty awesome idea the more I think it over - how would Pilots do in such a scenario?

Star Trek: So many awesome franchises and ideas here. How would you see Pilots & Galactica coping in the federation?

These are obviously just examples, you can go for any scifi that you fancy. So go ahead and use today's DPP as space to write some fic (no word limits/restrictions), create some artwork if you're so inclined, or if you're not feeling creative but fancy speculating or have some awesome recs to do with scifi crossover then go ahead and include those :)

If we're talking Star Trek, how about Lee is a Maquis (we know he likes to mutiny for the right cause), and Kara is Starfleet, both ending up on Voyager after the incident at the Badlands. They can have the same backstory of Zak, but at least for the beginning, they'd be adversaries on opposite sides. :)

Oh, that could be epic. I'd love to see that come to fruition :) It'd be quite interesting to see what Kara would make of someone who has gone against an organisation she believes in (Starfleet)... and interesting to see Lee maybe feeling angry at Kara for not having the morals to leave that organisation over the issue of the ceded colonies.

Hee :) Long ago I came up with a list of things I'd love to see in a BSG/Star Wars crossover:

~ R2D2 and C3PO meet the Cylons
~ Han Solo and Kara Thrace fly together
~ Lando Calrissian offers Billy Keikeya fashion tips
~ Darth Vader and Cavil compare the pros and cons of machinery versus humanity
~ Leia and Laura compete for the Presidency
~ The Cylons attack the Twelve Colonies with a Death Star, and only a small group of maneuverable X-wings…I mean Vipers…can save the worlds
~ Leoben and Yoda discuss the meaning of life
~ Kara is Bill's Padawan, and Lee is Roslin's. The first time they meet, they wind up in a lightsaber battle with each other, possibly on a planet filled with either lava or algae :)

I read these with the biggest grin on my face. Your list is brilliant! Bit I particularly like this one:

~ Kara is Bill's Padawan, and Lee is Roslin's. The first time they meet, they wind up in a lightsaber battle with each other, possibly on a planet filled with either lava or algae :)

On the Doctor Who front, I think it would be very interesting to make Lee and Kara timelords and put them in the middle of the horrors of the Time War. It could capture a lot of the grim, intense feel of BSG itself, with terrible choices and moral compromises having to be made. And Lee could then fill the Doctor's role of having to commit genocide in order to save the universe from his own people, and Kara could pull the Master's trick of surviving by becoming human and wandering, forgetful of her true self, through a new life at the distant edge of time. The two of them would be the last of the timelords, and across all of space and time they would somehow find each other again. <3

I'm really loving this idea. I'd never considered that parallels between the Time War and the second Cylon War, but now you've mentioned it I can really see it. I'm really pleased amaliak is going to write something based on this :)

He’d known she was different the minute her hand slipped into his.
900 years of travelling time and space and this person...this was the first time he’d felt something deep in his chest rustle and move and announce it’s existence. He could only recall feeling that way once before: when he first saw the TARDIS.
Her name was Kara Thrace and she had a naughty grin and eyes that said that there was so much more to her than what he could see.
Jack flirted immediately of course, and she had kissed him in an exaggerated manner before punching him in the gut, laughing loudly when Jack then turned his attentions to Kara’s brother Karl, who was gracious enough to smile politely.
Kara had called him by his current alias, the name “Lee” slipping easily off her lips easily. She was a fighter, brave in the face of monsters she’d never faced, nearly gleeful when in the heat of battle.
Jack had caught sight of the watch eventually, and the Pilot’s breath had hitched for a moment, seeing the familiar etchings even as Karl had argued to leave it alone.
Then came the rush, the her trembling fingers finally dropping the watch as her breathing came in pants.
That thing in his chest expanded as her eyes met his, and everything else in the world fell away.
She said nothing, just walked over to him, her fingers running over his face as he held his breath. “It’s you,” she whispered, a tear running down her cheek. Before he knew it, he was kissing her, and she was kissing him back and it all just clicked.
The loneliness of all the years of travelling, forgetting all the horrors of what happened (never forgetting), forgetting about her (for reasons that don’t matter anymore), all of it shed away when he realized that’s just who she was.
Who they were.

They were The Pilots, whole only when together.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE the idea of pilots with the Doctor!! Mostly because i have this "everyone in the TARDIS!" concept that allows for every fandom to be made better. :D

I think the cybermen would throw them for a loop because cybermen are people...or they were and reconciling that would be interesting. I also would love to see Lee interact with River Song...oh holy crap, i think i just found my new crack!ship.

of course, there's pilots in the Firefly verse which is always fun. Ray wrote fabulous fic for this along with the best Dollhouse crossover.

And actually inserting Lee and Kara into the Star Wars universe is interesting because i can see Lee being part of the Galactic senate and part of the Rebellion. Kara would be the pilot of his ship on secret and dangerous missions.

Frak. I'm going to have to write this.

I just went there myself. She is an eminently missable person. Even those who spoke a few times (like myself) miss her. She was tres tres awesome!

I'm really sorry it made you sad. I only got into the fandom in the week before she died so I never interacted with her, but I do know how she's being remembered by everyone in the fandom and that speaks volumes about the kind of person she was.

OOOOH I can just SEE pilots as Jedi! And you know it'd even preserve the forbidden-lovers angle too, because Jedi weren't ever supposed to feel/become slave to emotions, including love. And YES to the Hand of God/first Death Star raid comparison! I remember watching Lee go down that tunnel thinking "oooh, this is exactly like Luke about to take out the Death Star!".


Another big YES to the Doctor Who setting, too - I can just see them as Time Lords, or running into Captain Jack (who would obviously hit on both of them) and how much more fun that would be than the Quadrangle of Doom.

Also, further in the DW universe, I can maybe see them in Torchwood too. They'd def. be interesting to watch (though I want to see them team up with River Song too).....oooh, so many possibilities!

And of course, my eternal favourite, Firefly. I mentioned it last week, but I would really, really love to have pilots meet River Tam.

I had an idea similar to one of those a while back I thought a cool Star Wars/BSG Crossover could be Lee as a deposed royal of some planet on the run from the empire after he attempted a last ditch effort to thwart the empire taking over his family's small but refined planet when he's picked up by a rag tag crew on led by Kara. In their first major scrape Lee can tell something's different about her and later learns that he's not the one with the biggest secret to hide. She's not just a street smart spacer from Corellia but the former padawan of one of the last Jedi killed in the purge. They soon start getting tracked by crime bosses, imperial commanders, bounty hunters and Sith who can all be Cylon characters. Of course.

And Tigh could be an Ewok...okay, that one no. :P

I would love to see Lee and Kara in the Halo universe as Spartan II's (Augmented super soldiers that wear advanced suits of armor) and are fighting an alien race [cylons?] bent on wiping out mankind based on a covenant of religion. or as ODST's (Orbital Drop Shock Troops) the creme of the crop of non augmented soldiers (Nathan Fillion and Tricia Helfer played a couple characters in a game called Halo 3 ODST, Helfer was ONI [Office of Naval Intelligence though])
