Happy weekend, everyone! Thank you all for making this such a fun week, I've had a big grin on my face every time I opened my inbox! :)

For this weekend, I thought it would be fun to share some cute pictures that remind us of pilots. Like this:

I've copied a few links to the first websites of animal pictures that came up on my google search: HERE, MORE HERE, EVEN MORE HERE, and THE MOST HERE. Have fun taking a look, and share some with us! Let us know what pilots!moment they remind you of. You can share other silly pictures, too, not just animals. Looking forward to seeing what you find :)

RANDOM EXTRA NOTES OF RANDOMNESS:
These are just a few stray thoughts I've had lately, and I'm throwing them out there if anyone wants to comment --

* In general, I really enjoy the names that RDM invents for his characters. Back on DS9 there were some gorgeous examples, from "Julian Sabbatai Bashir" to "Enabrain Tane." But I must admit that I don't like the name Lee. What can I say? Definitely nowhere near my top ten choices were I ever to have a son. What names did you like best on the show? Were there any you disliked or found funny?

* Lee and Kara in our pop culture -- Which would they prefer?:
- Lennon or McCartney?
- Kirk or Picard?
- Reality TV or soaps?
- Espresso or latte?
- Cable or network?
- Andrew Lloyd Weber or Stephen Sondheim?
- Stephen King or Tom Clancy?
- Sean Connery or Daniel Craig?
- Batman or Superman?
- The Wire or House, MD?
- city or suburb?
- tango or tapdance?
- Hepburns: Audrey or Katherine?
- Cary Grant or John Wayne?
- Brontes or Austen?
- Byron or Keats?
- Disney or Looney Tunes?

La la la. Feel free to pose more questions if any occur to you :)

Have a very happy weekend, and for those celebrating Memorial Day, may the memory of all those you have loved and honored be close to you now and always; their service and sacrifices will not be forgotten.

I always associated the phonetic lean towards "K" spellings/sounds as a attempt to draw upon the vaguely Greek/Roman heritage of the Twelve Worlds - like, they didn't want names that were completely strange and foreign to viewers (Cara, Carl), but in that sci-fi way, wanting to indicate an "otherness" or "difference" while keeping cohesive structure around it. The repetition of other name sounds struck me the same way - all languages have a certain rhythm to their names, and I felt like they managed to give all character's names that cohesive rhythm.

Anyway, I like both "Lee Adama" and "Kara Thrace" - the former has such a nice balance to it, and the latter representative of our 'Buck: "Kara" is softer, more apropos to her more vulnerable side, while "Thrace" is stone-cold badass.

Both - C and K represent the same letter in Greek (kappa, which is a K - so Calliope would be spelled Kalliope in Greek, etc.) They used that little linguistic nugget (they even dropped the 'c' in Zak, for example) and other sound patterns to build that cohesive, yet "other", feel. As far as world-buildiness goes, it's very simple and elegant, I find.

Oh, I love "Lee." It lends itself so to fangirl squeeling. "Oh, Leeeeeeeeeeee!" ;)
