DPP - Game on!
Nov. 26th, 2010 03:12 pmThe posting rules are simple.
Some people won't be around until later tonight so try to remember that! Our Starbuck might be modded a bit by Tara until Ray gets home so that we can keep pilots in motion. To get the game going I'm going to post as a deckhand (so excuse the poor writing skills please)
We start our game at the very end of UB. Starbuck and Apollo are laying bloodied and battered on the mat of the boxing ring. Slowly the crowd starts to thin out and all the crew can talk about is Maj. Adama and Capt. Thrace. The whispers and theories about what happened so long ago on New Caprica to cause their rift echo off the bulkheads. Finally Col. Tigh steps out of the ring and orders everyone but the knuckledraggers off the deck and for them to get it back to combat ready status. It’s 15 minutes later, the bleachers are stacked, tables are stowed and the only thing left to dismantle is the ring but Starbuck and Apollo are still laying in it. The deck gang is trying to decide who is going to be the one to say something to them….
ETA: Rooms are added, if there is any place you specifically want to work from let me know. I'm adding an OOC comment at the end so put all your comments, needs or questions there....i figure its best to have it all in one place.
EDIT 11:30PM EST: Hey everyone! Thanks so much for joining in, we've started it a bit and kind of established where everyone is. We've been discussing keeping this going for a few days and posting jumps ahead and what not in the coming days. Please continue to add anything into this thread, make your character interact in the established places or if you want to start a new "room" just let me know. Tomorrow there will be a post about continuing the story. Thanks again for all your patience while we figure it out, I hope you enjoy playing and reading!
- You can only post reactions and dialog for your chraracter
- Give others a chance to respond (If it takes too long, I'll try and jump in and move things along w/out trying to do too much altering to the character)

Re: ADMIRAL'S QUARTERS
Date: 2010-11-28 02:19 am (UTC)Grimacing, Bill peeled off his tanks and stripped down to his boxer shorts. He walked into the bathroom and closed the door, holding onto the handle for a moment to steady himself. A glance in the mirror confirmed what he already knew - he looked like shit. Problem was that he felt even worse.
Reaching awkwardly to avoid the pain in his ribs, he spun the hot water dial and waited while the water heated, cursing himself again for his boxing stunt, but believing there had been no other way to give his message. People go too close and then bad decisions were made. He would not be party to that again.
For the briefest of moments, as he stepped into the hot spray, his mind went blissfully blank, aware only of the heat of the water and the easing of his muscles. If Laura weren't so damn compelling, he'd have loved to crawl right into his rack and sleep for about three days. Knowing she was there, however, was comforting in an unexpected way. Her enthusiasm at the dance had charmed him and her support afterward, when he was broken and beaten, had shown her warmth. She really was a remarkable woman.
Re: ADMIRAL'S QUARTERS
Date: 2010-11-28 02:48 am (UTC)It felt like ages since she’d spoken to Captain Apollo. She smiled to herself thinking that he wasn’t really that young man anymore. Drifting back to water running in the head, she smiled. This boy pictured seemed so serious, as though he were expecting the weight of the worlds fell too hard on his shoulders. If he found some happiness…
The younger son, Zak stood at attention next to his brother and father. His gaze hard into the camera, like a toy soldier, a kid playing dress-up. He was the one who had been engaged to Kara Thrace. Laura squinted at the picture imagining something for a moment. She wasn’t quite sure what. Zak had been dead years before the end of the worlds. She had seen Captain Thrace, Kara on New Caprica, in a relationship. Kara seemed… Laura wondered what Kara had been like with Zak.
As her thoughts tried and failed to swirl into place, Laura took a sip of her whiskey dangling the cut crystal glass between her fingers. She replaced the picture and found her way to the couch. It was more comfortable than anything on Colonial One. She was glad to have the presidency back. It gave her some security to know what weight lay on her own back. Closing her eyes, she took another drink and let her head fall back against the couch while she waited.
Re: ADMIRAL'S QUARTERS
Date: 2010-11-28 03:05 am (UTC)As he stood under the water, Tigh's words about Lee and Kara came back into his mind. It still didn't make any sense to him. Granted, he'd been surprised when Lee had gotten married to Dee so suddenly after the ground-breaking celebration, but he had chalked it up to the spirit of finding the new planet. He'd never made the connection between Kara's marriage and Lee's. And even when he considered it now, it didn't really make sense. Maybe Saul had gotten his facts wrong; he just couldn't imagine the two of them together.
Rinsing his hair and face one more time, he twisted the water off and reached for the towel, briefly forgetting his ribs and catching his breath as the sharp pain shot through his side. Frak. He was going to have to get used to this limited range of motion.
With slow movements, he drug the towel over his skin and dabbed at the cuts on his face. He didn't look that much better, but he felt like he might survive. A cloud of steam rushed out the door as he opened it and stepped back into his quarters to dress in clean clothes. He hoped Laura didn't mind his casual apparel - he couldn't manage a uniform just now.
Finally dressed and ready to face her, Bill walked towards the front of his quarters to find Laura sitting on the sofa, her neck stretched out with her head back against the soft leather. She looked quite lovely.
Bill cleared his throat and spoke, "That helped. I feel like I can move now." He smiled, picked up his drink and sat down in a wide leather chair across from her. He winced as the pain in his ribs flared.

Date: 2010-11-28 03:19 am (UTC)“Another?” She stood up from the couch. She was going to need liquid courage, and she had a strong feeling that Bill was going to need physical space if this conversation was going to get going.

Date: 2010-11-28 03:31 am (UTC)"I was. Have you ever known Kara to be happy? Really happy? I got to know her a bit on New Caprica before... I just wonder if she was a happy as everyone thought." Pouring herself another drink, Laura leaned back for a moment and paused to take in the man who commanded not just the fleet but this room densely packed with familiarity and history.
Re: ADMIRAL'S QUARTERS
Date: 2010-11-28 03:51 am (UTC)"She seemed happy the day she got married, although that doesn't always last, especially under these conditions." He appraised Laura. "Why, what do you know?"
He settled back into his chair and waited for her to speak.

Date: 2010-11-28 04:44 am (UTC)This wasn't working. Laura finished her drink. "She missed him, Bill. I don't know why I didn't know. I should have, but Kara missed your son. Whatever happened between them, she missed him."
Re: ADMIRAL'S QUARTERS
Date: 2010-11-28 04:58 am (UTC)Bill rose stiffly from his seat, grimacing. He needed to think about all of this and he needed to talk to Lee. Whatever had gone on, it seemed that now there were repercussions.
He gave Laura a warm smile. "Thank you, Laura. You've given me a lot to think about, but I'm afraid my old beat up body has got to get some sleep. Can I show you out?" His tone was soft but firm.

Date: 2010-11-28 05:00 am (UTC)Re: ADMIRAL'S QUARTERS
Date: 2010-11-28 05:09 am (UTC)The guard closed the hatch and Bill walked through his quarters, flicking off lights and finding his rack in the dim light of one small lamp. He eased is tired body into the rack and let out a deep sigh. Of all the things he expected from the Dance, finding out that Kara might have been in love with his son was not one of them.
His thoughts on the matter lasted only seconds before his exhaustion overtook him and he fell into a dreamless sleep.
