Greetings and salutations, 'shipper nation! This is Amy, known on your internets as [info]ninjamonkey73, and I'm driving the DPP bus this week. Sit back and enjoy the ride...

Lee and Kara are timeless. Our fandom is spilling over with great AU works. Let's talk about how you like to imagine Lee and Kara outside of their post-apocolyptic space adventure.

Wikipedia gives the following definition at the page on Alternate Universes:

Commonly abbreviated AU, stories of this type are usually what-ifs, where possibilities arising from different circumstances or character decisions are explored. Unlike regular fan fiction, which generally remains within the boundaries of the canon set out by the author, alternative universe fiction writers like to explore the possibilities of pivotal changes made to characters' history, motivations or environment.

Link to your fav AU pieces (have you read [info]rayruz's Did I Fall Alseep Dollhouse crossover?), write something new (comment!fic will get you a virtual cookie), hypothesize about other universes where the characters of Kara and Lee are still our pilots without necessarily being pilots, per se.

Later today, I'll post a follow-up poll to nail down the exact rewatch details so we can get a calendar together.

Hee! So fun! Hall Monitor Lee in an almost literal sense! I love Lee in white gloves (there's even a scene of him in white gloves in BSG -- they are apparently an optional accessory with his dress grey uniform. What episode was that in? Maybe Water? Or even a deleted scene from Water? He was definitely walking down a hallway with his Dad. *will try to remember because I get easily caught by trivialities*)

But why does my mind instantly leap to the bittersweet, even in something as sunny as the Sound of Music? I jump straight to them standing together in silhouette, with Kara singing:

Perhaps I had a wicked childhood
Perhaps I had a miserable youth
But somwhere in my wicked, miserable past
There must have been a moment of truth

For here you are, standing there, loving me
Whether or not you should
So somewhere in my youth or childhood
I must have done something good

Nothing comes from nothing
Nothing ever could
So somewhere in my youth or childhood
I must have done something good

*hugs their damaged selves and nudges them gently towards that first kiss*

Yup, it's in Water, when he has the conversations about military protocol with Roslin about his dad only doing it because he thinks she'll be impressed, etc.

Hee. I have to admit that's my least favorite scene/song of the movie. I don't like the melancholy of it. Even as a wee Taragel I was not much one for angst I guess! I do believe it's also only in the movie, that song. That it was written for the movie but isn't in the musical maybe? Hmm I used to know this! Heh.
