Hee.  Pardon the interruption, but as part-time moderator and full-time fangirl, I am borrowing the No Takebacks pulpit to throw a bit of a soiree (my specialty).

This summer has been long, slow, hot, and crazy-busy-- and we've had a very DED LJ.  This is okay, as it usually happens around this time of year, but being one of the many peeps who feels I may have missed out on some very cool fandom stuff, I invite everyone to share the following:

• (If you're a writer) what you're currently working on or have recently finished, with a brief synopsis.  Links are greatly appreciated.
• (If you're an avid fic reader) what you've recently been enjoying from the annals of Shipper Nation.
• Feel free to share both (as writers are often avid readers and vice versa.)

This way, it works like a little summer fic-mobile-- you can keep up with the latest fic and fandom projects, and be able to browse through stories and vids and such and see if there's anything of interest.  And as always, it's a great opporuntity to MINGLE AND CHAT.  Because seriously, what is a day without mingling and chatting?

My productivity has been painfully slow as of late, but I finally did finish my multi-chapter pre-mini angsty-pilots-meets-forbidden-love-with-action-and-drama! fic that I started the year before. Here it is:

So, let's see....

I've been reading older stuff. I pick randomly from my bookmarks every few nights. Has been tons of fun :D

I've also been inhaling any updates to amidala_thrace's Insanity Underrated (http://community.livejournal.com/jedionpaper/26795.html) and sci_fi_shipper's Chasing the Dragon (http://community.livejournal.com/scifishipperfic/651.html), both of which are great. I've also (re)started (as I didn't get very far the first time around) kag523's Officer's Club (http://kag523.livejournal.com/10821.html) an Academy AU that is finished. She's up to 80+ chapters on its sequel and posts new chapters daily.

(I may also be crossing my fingers and squeezing my eyes shut hoping for more Crazyspacemagic in the form of Cave!Pilots ;P)

RECENT/CURRENT WRITING:
For three months, I've been completely obsessed with writing my first long fic: Chasing the Dragon (http://community.livejournal.com/scifishipperfic/651.html). I've set out thirty-five chapters to tell my version of Kare and Lee in an established relationship. The fic is set on New Caprica and follows the military and civilians as they try to build new lives without cylons. Synopsis: Having a life together is not as easy as they had hoped. Part One (Chapter 1-10) is complete. Now onto Part Two. I publish one chapter per week (except for vacations and summer visitors.)

I also wrote a bunch of fic for the bsgpornbattle. READING THIS WEEK:
This week I've been obsessed with Kag523's WIP (which is almost done) Crossing the Styx. It's the second long fic in a series that started with The Officers's Club. I'm gonna let her provide the links, but it's great.

I also just recently read and enjoyed the first chapter in ez_as_pi's WIP A Request (http://community.livejournal.com/pi_pieces/90116.html).

I got a BSG Battle of the Bands AU. Kara Thrace and her Special Destiny versus a cylon band whose initials are HCL... if you get why that is funny I'll give you cookies, but no one will. It's a joke about Hard Core Logo, a band movie Callum Keith Rennie was in.

I've got a Kara one-shot I'm working on... about her childhood... my work is seriously affecting the story. :( sad.

Let's see. For the past month or so, I've been working on that AU with Kara as Lee's bodyguard. I'm really enjoying it, but it's coming along veeeeeeery slooooooowly because writing original-ish fiction is much harder than I realized!

Bee, did you want people to post fic here? If so, I can find something to excerpt. I've been wanting to get more opinions of how well (or not) it's going, but it's not really ready for some WIP action. ;)

Currently I'm too busy slaving away at my startrekbigbang fic to work on any piloty things, but when I have the time I'd like to do some/preferably all of these:

-Write a timestamp for We're Not Friends (http://ninety6tears.livejournal.com/82786.html), preferably before everyone's forgotten about it...
-Finish that DAMNED pre-series fic that's been on my hard drive for...years? The plan was to finish it for BSG big bang, but that didn't work out.
-I don't even know if many of y'all would be interested, but I have this...Lee/Kara/Sam plot bunny...stewing. It started with the idea of writing Kara and Lee as these Bonnie & Clyde type anti-heroes, and then it got into this whole AU premise that basically involves the cylons politically infiltrating the twelve colonies instead of destroying them when they return. I don't know, I'll just leave that here.

Okay, so, at any given time I am working on at least ten stories. Half the time these don't get finished, or they end up part of another story entirely. Currently, here's what's in the hopper (no links to WIP's because I'm on the phone and lazy):

1. BSG Big Bang. Dear lords. I'm rewriting the show, basically. Everything from Maelstrom on, plus a little from before that. I call it my re-imagined series. ;)

2. Next chapter of Adama brothers. Kara meets the rest of the Adamas.

3. Crossover piece where kara hops through seven other universes.

That's it off the top of my head!

I don't have a whole lot in the works at the moment, and what I do have is a bit odd. I've been writing drips and drabs of a Kara/Lee Batman AU story (Bill is Batman, of course, and Tigh is Alfred), part of which I posted in drabble form a few weeks ago. I have a fair chunk of the ending written, but no beginning, and I'm not really sure how in-depth I want to try to build this thing. At the moment Kara's character is hovering between The Huntress and Catwoman, and Lee is being unusually light and bantery as Nightwing. This may never go anywhere, but it's fun to write snarky little exchanges, and Kara really likes Nightwing's flying motorcycle, and Bill gets kind of sweet (in a taciturn way) in response to Lee's near death experiences, and Romo Lampkin is enjoying being the maniacal but impartial lawyer supervillain Two-Face. Yeah. It's odd.

I also have a very sketchy outline for a "Sacrifice" AU in which Kara was in the bar when the hostages were taken. She and Lee come up with a few interesting strategies, Dee and Billy conduct some daring-do in the background, and nobody dies. Again, it may never see the light of day, but it's fun to fiddle with.

Most of my actual finished productions lately have come in response to other people's prompts (thank you!). They help me focus. Hence a fic, a poem, and some drabbles:

That's the karaleefics LJ community she mentioned in her post above.

Most recently, queenofthorns wrote a really lovely response to a poetry prompt of mine for the exchange this week, called Lux Aeterna (http://queenofthorns.livejournal.com/475390.html). It's a moving examination of Lee's grief after Kara's death in Maelstrom.

I really hope your health issues/RL stuff is nothing serious and that you are able to sort everything out really soon.

Well, after a long period of not writing, I have written a little in the last two weeks.

The next chapter of Schisms has been provisionally finished for aaages, but I still haven't posted it because I am not happy with it yet. :( In fact I have actually gone back to earlier chapters and done some editing so I am thinking if I can get back into the swing of this story I might repost from scratch until I catch up.

rayruz had a look at the drafted chapter for me and had some observations that stirred up some thinky thoughts and changed my mind about the inclusion of a particular character in a particular role... but said mind change requires a scene or two to be inserted earlier on in order to keep the thing making sense. And boy do I enjoy being cryptic.

Also been suffering from a lack of enthusiasm and just generally frustrated with my own slowness--I have made a big effort to write theis week and as a result my house is filthy and I haven't got around to potting some plants I have now had sitting there tow weks. Oops. Seems I can either write or keep my house in order but not both. Alas.

Also I have had a glass of vodka and feel my grammar learnings failing. I will read this comment back tomorrow and cringe I'm sure. Too many ellipses...

Well, I just finished writing a piece for last week's fic battle (http://dread-pirate.dreamwidth.org/4538.html). It's been a drought of inspiration this summer, so it felt really good to have one really write itself.

I'm trying to wait patiently for several WIPs, (too lazy to link this morning, but they're all linked in other comments) sci_fi_shipper's "Chasing the Dragon", amidala_thrace's "Insanity Underrated", taragel's "Cutting Edge". I wish a certain Ms. Bee would get more cave!pilots out of her head for us all to enjoy. ;)

I'm making a fanvid today, time permitting. The video loading is taking forever. I took the day off to spend the whole day playing in the fandom, making a vid and some icons, maybe.
