[identity profile] stripes13.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] no_takebacks
Hello!!! I'm [livejournal.com profile] stripes13, and I'll be here all week.

Today begins the prompting for the DPP Pilots Ficbattle!!! Yes, that's right, we're having a ficbattle this week. SURPRISE!!!!!!

First some basics:

Obviously, as this is a Kara/Lee community, this ficbattle will be focused on them as a pair. There are so many facets of their relationship that can be explored through fic. And I know, for me, that sometimes fics that imply a relationship between them can be just as good as ones that might describe it outright.

Prompt Submission
will run from today, August 9, 2010 to about 2 pm (EDT) on Wednesday August 11, 2010.

Fic Submission will open at about 12:01 am (EDT) Thursday August 12, 2010 and run through Sunday August 15, 2010.

Submit your prompts in comments to this post.

Prompts can be: words, phrases, quotes, songs and/or song lyrics, pictures, GIFs, and pretty much anything else you think fits our pilots.

I will post to close prompting Wednesday as soon as I get home from work, and will hopefully get a list up before the battle begins on Thursday. Also, I will be unable to respond to any comments or questions during the day due to not having computer access at work. I'll be sure to get to them when I get home.

ETA: Smut is not necessary, but I know I wouldn't say no to it ;)

Ooh, I has one!

Pilots' briefing room/podium blowjobs

(And, to make this equal-opportunity:)

Lee going down in Kara in said briefing room

Will be back with more if/when I think of 'em!

Here I am, trying to start a nice relationshippy piece, notebook and pen in hand, and all I can think about is "podium blowjob". And how there's a briefing going on. You might be evil. Or am I projecting? :)

Yay for new fic!

Okay, I admit, I'm a sucker for fluff, so this is what I'd like to see.

1. Secretly!Married!Pilots - smut not required but highly desired, cuz sneaky sexing is just fun y'all :-)
2. A "glimpse" of a healthy K/L relationship moment possibly with other pilots/Papadama, etc. Banter, sexing, teasing, sexing ...whoops did I mention sexing? Yeah. That.

Bring on the sexy fluff you ridiculously talented people. And that means YOU.

I love secretly married pilots! I had an inkling for a fic of that once upon a time but it never went anywhere, sadly

I would love to see one where Lee or Kara (preferably Kara) is in a really frakked up marriage/situation/fight/whatever and the other one has to ride in and be the big bad hero (preferably Lee). A bit OOC I know but you said anything :)

Hmm *thinks*

* Raspberry jelly (cos I am eating some right now and it's yum! ;)
* "show us yer pink bits!" (because I'm Australian and my mind is weird!)
* Two words: secret pilotbaby (secret from whom? you decide...)

Oo! I already see some prompts that have the little wheels turning.

  • Pre-miniseries, Zak suspects something
  • Blackout
  • New Caprica, "the morning after" if Kara didn't run off and marry Sam
  • What if Kara pulled up at the last minute in Maelstrom and didn't die? Would that have changed the just a CAG/problem pilot relationship, knowing he could lose her?

Oh, honey! We think just alike! I typed in some prompts without reading the others and two of ours are exactly the same!

SOMEONE NEEDS TO WRITE THOSE RFN!!!

Poetry prompts, part one

Date: 2010-08-09 04:48 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] rachelindeed.livejournal.com
I actually have a file of poetry quotations that I've always thought could make beautiful prompts for K/L short stories. I put them in order ages ago, and then never did much with them...if anyone wants to pick one up to play with, please do!

1. Foreshadowed

I saw, in gradual vision, the melancholy years
Of my own life; saw who by turns had flung
A shadow across me: a mystic Shape did move
Behind me, and drew me backward by the hair,
And a voice said in mastery while I strove --
Guess now who holds thee? --

Death, I said. But, there,
The silver answer rang --

Not Death, but Love.

2. Comrades

Unlike are we, unlike, O princely heart.
Unlike our uses and our destinies.
Our ministering two angels look surprised
On one another, as they strike athwart
Their wings in passing.

3. Tragedy

I look on thee -- on thee --
Beholding, besides love, the end of love,
Hearing oblivion beyond memory,
As one who sits and gazes from above
Over the rivers to the bitter sea.

4. Apocalypse

The world was void,
The populous and the powerful was a lump,
Seasonless, herbless, treeless, manless, lifeless --
A lump of death -- a chaos of hard clay.

5. Exodus

Come, my friends.
'Tis not too late to seek a newer world.
Death closes all: but something ere the end,
Some work of noble note, may yet be done,
Not unbecoming men that strove with Gods.

6. Shame

Can it be right, to give what I can give?
To let thee sit beneath the fall of tears
As salt as mine?
I will not soil thy purple with my dust,
Nor breathe my poison on thy Venice-glass,
Nor give thee any love -- that were unjust.
Beloved...let it pass.

7. Catastrophe

Then hate me when though wilt; if ever, now.
If thou wilt leave me, do not leave me last,
But in the onset come; so shall I taste
At first the very worst of fortune's might.

8. Catharsis

Thou art the grave where buried love doth live,
Hung with the trophies of my lovers gone,
Who all their parts of me to thee did give:
That due of many now is thine alone.

Take all my loves, my love, yea take them all.
What hast thou, then, more than thou hadst before?

9. Silence

And wilt thou have me fashion into speech
The love I bear thee, finding words enough,
And hold the torch out, while the winds are rough,
Between our faces, to cast light on each?

I cannot teach
My hand to hold my spirit so far off
From myself -- me -- that I should bring thee proof
In words, of love hid in me out of reach.

Poetry prompts, part two

From: [identity profile] rachelindeed.livejournal.com
10. Death

I stand unwon, however wooed,
And rend the garment of my life,
By a most dauntless, voiceless fortitude.

Sorrow hath shut me safe in love's divine,
And to spread wing and fly in the outer air
Were most impossible failure...

I strove to fail so.

11. Grief

I tell you, hopeless grief is passionless;
That only men incredulous of despair,
Half-taught in anguish, through the midnight air
Beat upward to God's throne in loud excess
Of shrieking and reproach. Full desertness,
In souls as countries, lieth silent-bare
Under the blanching, vertical eye-glare
Of the absolute Heavens. Deep-hearted man,
Express grief for thy dead in silence like to death.

12. Destiny

Why do you read the contours of your body
like the engraving of a palm, so that I cannot
see them now except as fate?

Come into the light.
I'm not afraid to look my dead in the face.

13. Free Will

My poet, thou canst touch on all the notes
God set between his After and Before,
And strike up and strike off the general roar
Of the rushing worlds a melody...

God's will devotes thine to such ends,
And mine to wait on thine.

How, dearest wilt thou have me for most use?
A hope, to sing by gladly? or a fine
Sad memory, with thy songs to interfuse?
A shade, in which to sing -- of palm or pine?
A grave, on which to rest from singing? Choose.

14. Love

Men could not part us with their worldly jars,
Nor the seas change us, nor the tempests bend;
Our hands would touch for all the mountain-bars,
And, heaven being rolled between us at the end,
We should but vow the faster for the stars.

That's so wonderful, I am really thrilled to hear it! I think you are an amazing writer and I can't wait to see your story! :)

I should apologize for neglecting to name my sources in the prompt list, but most of these are Elizabeth Barrett Browning or Shakespeare, with a tiny bit of Tennyson, Byron, and Rilke scattered in. #11 is Browning's poem "Grief," and if you'd like to see the full version, it is here (http://www.cswnet.com/~erin/ebbpoem.htm#gri). Again, I'm so looking forward to your story, thank you!

Thank you SO much! You are really far too kind and I love all of the poetry so much that I may extend my own personal "ficbattle" long past the deadline!!

P.S. -- I'm sorry, it just occurred to me that I'm not totally sure what the rules of a ficbattle are, and that if they involve having to answer every prompt then I have just created a bit of a mess by putting up so many. My sincere apologies if this is the case; I hope the moderator and my fellow participants will feel free to pick whichever one or two prompts seem most interesting and ignore the rest. Sorry if I caused problems. Thanks for your patience :)

I just want to say for the record that you are AMAZING. How long did it take you to pull all of those out? *bows before your awesomeness*

Ha! Thank you! It took me no time at all today, because I'd had those sitting around on my computer for months. I put them together at the beginning of the summer, but then was too lazy to actually write much for them :) They've been in the back of my head, though -- I wrote "First Flight" with the 'comrades' quote in mind, and "Every Sense" used a bit of the 'catharsis' verse.

Poetry just feels like summer. I like it.

I don't know if it might work as a prompt, but Rachel really got me thinking about pilots and poetry and I remembered one in Portuguese that really makes me think of Lee and his doomed love for Kara (after he fully admitted his feeling to himself, that is). It would be something like this.

Know That I Will Love You
(Vinicius de Moraes and Tom Jobim)

I know I will love you
all my life I will love you
with every farewell I will love you
desperately, I know I will love you

And each verse of mine will be
to tell you that I'll love you
all my life

I know I will cry
with each absence of yours I will cry
but each return will erase
what your absence caused me

I know I'll suffer the eternal unhappiness of living
waiting to live beside you
all my life

From: [identity profile] rachelindeed.livejournal.com
Wow, this is so gorgeous, thank you for sharing it! I especially like the paradox of simultaneously living beside someone and yet still waiting to live beside them, always. And the lovely sadness of "I will love you with every farewell." ** melts **

These are actually the words to a song. The words are really very simple, but with the melody and the singers' voices... Oh, It's such a sad song! The melody and the words just make me want to cry sometimes. And Vinicius de Moraes was one of Brazilian's most respected 20th century poets and lyricists. I absolutely adore him. I'm glad you liked it. :)

And continuing with the music theme (although mine aren't as pretty as yours, Damao) I have some song lyrics that make me think of out dear pilots.
First is Hurricane by 30 Second to Mar featuring Kanye West.

You say you wrong, you wrong, I'm right, I'm right, you're wrong, we fight

Ok, I'm running from the light, running from the day to night

Oh, the quiet silence defines our misery

The riot inside keeps trying to visit me

No matter how we try, it's too much history

Too many bad notes playing in our symphony

So let it breathe, let it fly, let it go

Let it fall, let it crash, burn slow

And then you call upon God

You call upon God

While I love his whole part, they part about too much history has always stood out to me.

Another would be Placebo's Sleeping with Ghosts.

It seems it's written
But we can't read between the lines

Hush
It's okay
Dry your eye
dry your eye
Soulmate dry your eye
Dry your eye
Soulmate dry your eye
Cause soulmates never die

This one world vision
Turns us into compromise
What good's religion
When it's each other we despise

And finally on to Paul Simon's Graceland (which i just heard tonight and went WOAH PILOTS!)

And she said losing love
Is like a window in your heart
Everybody sees you're blown apart
Everybody sees the wind blow

I thinks that's it. Have fun :)

As long as we're still open for requests, I'll add one more to the mix:

I'd love to see a historical AU story with Kara and Lee. You can set it in any historical era and place that appeals to you. A few ideas that might work, off the top of my head, are:

** The two of them fighting (together or on opposing sides) in any historical or legendary war.
** The two of them flying (together or in competition) during the early days of mechanical flight (I'm thinking about the era of Lindbergh and Earhart)
** The two of them growing up under any oppressive regime and slowly learning to rebel together (maybe Zak's death is a catalyst for them to take action?)
