DPP: Dreams

I recently saw Inception, and now I've got dreams on my mind.  So here's my question for you all: had any piloty dreams?  I've only had one (that I remember), but I'd love to read about other people's!

My pilot dream was rather complicated (and it was also two years ago).  I was in charge of a group of people (in both real life and the dream), and I knew that there was a time-traveling alien possessing people's bodies.  Yup.  And then somehow...we traveled through time as well, possibly against our will.  And we ended up enslaved in a restaurant.  And at this point I was Kara.  My companion, also on the wait staff, was Lee (of course).  So we teamed up and broke out of there (because no evil restaurant can contain the combined might of Starbuck and Apollo!) and regrouped with our people in a parking lot, at which point I began to suspect that one of them, we'll call him Sam (not really but it'll do), had been possessed by the alien.  He was acting strange, and also didn't know any history after the 1850s (time-traveling alien!).  I was very concerned because if he had been possessed by the alien, then the only thing to do was to kill him before he killed the rest of us.  But if I killed him and it turned out that I was wrong...well, I'd feel pretty bad about it.

At this point I woke up because irl Sam had gotten up to go to the bathroom and I lay there in the dark panicking that the alien was going to kill us.

But the relevant part of this is that my dream self apparently thinks that when she's in danger she ought to be Kara Thrace.  Well done, dream self.

Ha! Your dream is hilarious in that way dreams are.

I wish I dreamed of pilots more, but sadly no. I did once have a dream of both Kara and Lee (it's unclear if I was one of them or just with them) running with guns on like a cruise ship or maybe even a battleship. It was a long time ago so it's kind of fuzzy now.

Last week though my husband told me he dreamed we were in a house with Jamie Bamber! Hee. Sadly nothing salacious happened (OR AT LEAST NOT THAT HE WOULD TELL ME!) ;)

I never dream of BSG unless I'm writing BSG fiction. This will sound odd, but the fact is, when I get writing, there's a moment when I reach "flow". I don't have to try anymore - it's just there, bottled up - and it becomes more an issue of finding enough time to physically type it to get it out than anything else.

When that happens I begin to have these odd dreams of Kara and Lee and my other characters. Not random crazy stuff, like usual dreams, but dreams that are the next chapter, or scene or what have you. (For whatever reason, it is usually dialogue.) So at two in the morning, I literally take a pen and paper and transcribe it. For the most part, it feels like I'm a voyeur on the outside, not really a writer at all. Things that I can't figure out on my own, suddenly make sense. Who got where / how is settled and it just works. (And if you've read my longer fics, you'll appreciate this, as you'll know how very complicated my plotlines can get.) Some of the best twists and turns for characters also occur while I'm sleeping.

I average about 1/2 to a full page of notation a night. I retype and expand each day. And there's the proof...

Strange but true. And THAT is why I multi-post daily.

Seriously? We are the same person in two different bodies. I have a paper/pen by my bed too and have conditioned myself to wake up when I have a cool dream and write it down. Now, you know I don't write fic (well, I'm starting to, but not yet any way) but my scribblings end up being these long, stream of consciousness blogs.

Brain!Twin moment!!!!! LOL That is so BIZARRE Naz! I honestly haven't met anyone else who does this. *hugs* K

First off, your dream is awesome!

I actually dream about the pilots practically every night, especially if I've been reading fic. I usually do my reading after hubby goes to bed (which is like around 9:30 at night, and I'm up till 2-3 in the morning), so when I finally do go to bed, I dream about whatever it is that I've been reading. My dreams aren't as linear as I'd like, it's just a jumble of different circumstances, but it always involves Kara and Lee, but more prominently Kara because I just love her :-) They range from being in hand-to-hand combat, to actually flying in vipers to well, more er, "intimate" dreams *g*

It's funny you mention Inception because even though I've always been super aware of my dreams, after seeing that movie, my awareness has increased ten-fold.

Oh totally! I've always been fascinated by dreams (and I have some weird, weird prophetic ones which I'll tell you about offline which will freak you out - guaranteed) and I read a book when I was around 12 which taught you how to remember your dreams and one of the tricks was to always have paper/pen handy and "train" yourself to wake up and write down what you dreamed about.

Yes, Brain!Twin moment. I &hearts my Brain!Twin

Now I am COMPLETELY convinced. Yes, we'll talk later! K ;>)

I've had the feeling that a whole story was in there, just to be written down, but I don't actually dream them. That is both really cool and really overwhelming. Although it DOES explain your output! :)

I tried that dream-remembering stuff, but having had insomnia problems for so many years, I always end up not wanting to wake up enough to write it down now that I sleep through the night pretty regularly.

On the weird not K/L front, I once dreamed I was helping a group of my high school classmates escape the International area of Epcot in Disney World, while we were being shot at in the crowd. Oo! And I also dreamed I broke into an evil orphanage to break out kids I grew up with. I a) have a hero complex, and b) watched too many soap operas growing up. :)

I do have the rough sketches done before I ever begin actually writing, but the dialogue and intricacies tend to come out this way. It is weird, but true. :>D

I don't know! He claimed not to recall any details. (Hmm...)

I have a dim light I turn on so I don't annoy my husband (though frankly I think he'd sleep through almost everything). Strangely enough my handwriting is completely different than my normal handwriting. And THAT I cannot explain whatsoever.

I just know it works for me. :>)

You HAVE to go see Inception. You will love it!

I will, I WILL! Grandparents (AKA babysitters) return to us this weekend, so it'll be after that. I cannot WAIT! ;>)

They're all very high energy/active dreams. We're always running, flying, etc. And usually, I'm just part of their "group." I'm so used to having them now (I've been dreaming like this since my obsession with BSG and the pilots started in January) that I don't even think about it any more. I just know that I'm "with" Kara & Lee every night.

The last time this happened to me, where I dreamed about the same story/chars every night was when I was deeply immersed in Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time. I think the one night that I DIDN'T dream of K/L recently was the night I read the first book of the Mistborn series. I read the whole thing in one day and was a bit disoriented and it continued in my dream.

Okay. Seriously, stop. My handwriting is TOTALLY different too. It's not that it's illegible, but it's different. More "flowy" than my normal handwriting if that makes sense.

I don't have a light on, so I write in the dark.

I have one of those old fashioned spiral steno pads that I write on and somehow, I always remember to flip the page after I'm done writing. I can't sleep with any kind of night light, etc. so I that was my fix.

I love your dreams! You know they totally mean something and I'm sure if you get them analyzed, you'd get to the bottom of it. My guess *strikes a professional looking pose* is that you are juggling a lot of things in your rl and doing it really well and that translates into your dreams as being a hero who saves the day. Make sense? *end of armchair psychology session by Dr. Naz*

LOL - Brain!Twins strike again. :>)

Hee! What a wacky dream, thanks for sharing it!

I've never dreamed about pilots. I guess they spend enough time in my conscious mind that my subconscious doesn't feel the need to deal with them!

However, just to prove that I'm not completely boring, I did once dream that Han Solo and I were escaping from my elementary school, which had been taken over by French-speaking stormtroopers. And my friend once dreamed that Darth Vader was attempting to bribe her into going to the dentist by buying her a kitten. So I guess Star Wars patrols my unconscious mind :)

I've dreamed about them a few times, once I dreamed I was Kara, but mostly I have dreamed that I am me and that I am in geographical proximity to Lee and I know him and am interacting with him in some way.

I dream every night too and usually remember them. I actually kept a dream journal in college and still have it. I don't dream about BSG but I completely identify with Kara and would probably be her if I did. Wheel of Time. Best book series ever!! My daughter, who got us into BSG, is madly in love with Matt.

Anyways, my entire life is spent in daydreams already.
