DPP: Dreams
Aug. 3rd, 2010 08:38 amI recently saw Inception, and now I've got dreams on my mind. So here's my question for you all: had any piloty dreams? I've only had one (that I remember), but I'd love to read about other people's!
My pilot dream was rather complicated (and it was also two years ago). I was in charge of a group of people (in both real life and the dream), and I knew that there was a time-traveling alien possessing people's bodies. Yup. And then somehow...we traveled through time as well, possibly against our will. And we ended up enslaved in a restaurant. And at this point I was Kara. My companion, also on the wait staff, was Lee (of course). So we teamed up and broke out of there (because no evil restaurant can contain the combined might of Starbuck and Apollo!) and regrouped with our people in a parking lot, at which point I began to suspect that one of them, we'll call him Sam (not really but it'll do), had been possessed by the alien. He was acting strange, and also didn't know any history after the 1850s (time-traveling alien!). I was very concerned because if he had been possessed by the alien, then the only thing to do was to kill him before he killed the rest of us. But if I killed him and it turned out that I was wrong...well, I'd feel pretty bad about it.
At this point I woke up because irl Sam had gotten up to go to the bathroom and I lay there in the dark panicking that the alien was going to kill us.
But the relevant part of this is that my dream self apparently thinks that when she's in danger she ought to be Kara Thrace. Well done, dream self.

Date: 2010-08-03 03:27 pm (UTC)I wish I dreamed of pilots more, but sadly no. I did once have a dream of both Kara and Lee (it's unclear if I was one of them or just with them) running with guns on like a cruise ship or maybe even a battleship. It was a long time ago so it's kind of fuzzy now.
Last week though my husband told me he dreamed we were in a house with Jamie Bamber! Hee. Sadly nothing salacious happened (OR AT LEAST NOT THAT HE WOULD TELL ME!) ;)
I really have little conscious participation in my fic
Date: 2010-08-03 04:00 pm (UTC)When that happens I begin to have these odd dreams of Kara and Lee and my other characters. Not random crazy stuff, like usual dreams, but dreams that are the next chapter, or scene or what have you. (For whatever reason, it is usually dialogue.) So at two in the morning, I literally take a pen and paper and transcribe it. For the most part, it feels like I'm a voyeur on the outside, not really a writer at all. Things that I can't figure out on my own, suddenly make sense. Who got where / how is settled and it just works. (And if you've read my longer fics, you'll appreciate this, as you'll know how very complicated my plotlines can get.) Some of the best twists and turns for characters also occur while I'm sleeping.
I average about 1/2 to a full page of notation a night. I retype and expand each day. And there's the proof...
Strange but true. And THAT is why I multi-post daily.

Date: 2010-08-03 04:18 pm (UTC)I actually dream about the pilots practically every night, especially if I've been reading fic. I usually do my reading after hubby goes to bed (which is like around 9:30 at night, and I'm up till 2-3 in the morning), so when I finally do go to bed, I dream about whatever it is that I've been reading. My dreams aren't as linear as I'd like, it's just a jumble of different circumstances, but it always involves Kara and Lee, but more prominently Kara because I just love her :-) They range from being in hand-to-hand combat, to actually flying in vipers to well, more er, "intimate" dreams *g*
It's funny you mention Inception because even though I've always been super aware of my dreams, after seeing that movie, my awareness has increased ten-fold.

Date: 2010-08-03 08:20 pm (UTC)On the weird not K/L front, I once dreamed I was helping a group of my high school classmates escape the International area of Epcot in Disney World, while we were being shot at in the crowd. Oo! And I also dreamed I broke into an evil orphanage to break out kids I grew up with. I a) have a hero complex, and b) watched too many soap operas growing up. :)

Date: 2010-08-03 09:05 pm (UTC)Here's my question: when you're writing all that down, do you turn on the light? When I write things down in bed, I never turn on the light so sometimes in the morning I find that I wrote over a previous note, or that my lines are just completely criss-crossing and barely legible. Fun times.

Date: 2010-08-03 09:28 pm (UTC)The last time this happened to me, where I dreamed about the same story/chars every night was when I was deeply immersed in Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time. I think the one night that I DIDN'T dream of K/L recently was the night I read the first book of the Mistborn series. I read the whole thing in one day and was a bit disoriented and it continued in my dream.

Date: 2010-08-03 09:57 pm (UTC)I've never dreamed about pilots. I guess they spend enough time in my conscious mind that my subconscious doesn't feel the need to deal with them!
However, just to prove that I'm not completely boring, I did once dream that Han Solo and I were escaping from my elementary school, which had been taken over by French-speaking stormtroopers. And my friend once dreamed that Darth Vader was attempting to bribe her into going to the dentist by buying her a kitten. So I guess Star Wars patrols my unconscious mind :)

Very cool. I've had some fandom dreams for other shows too--Buffy characters used to appear regularly in my dreams (there was one memorable dream in which Oz and I were trying to steal something from the back of Ethan Rayne's van while he was driving it), although not so much in recent years. The last fandom dream that I remember was a Lost one actually, a month or two ago. Very odd. I was at some sort of Lost reunion for the characters who had somehow survived, and there was lots of drama and intrigue and then Sayid accused me of being an impostor, which was not very nice of him.
