Hullo! Apologies for the lack of DPP yesterday, my real life sort of crashed around my ears and I was not up to posting anything. Fortunately, my plan for yesterday dovetails into my plan for today, so no actual loss of content will occur!
So, today's agenda is twofold:
1. What is your favourite off-screen pilots moment/mention? In an interview, a story that some other cast member told, something one of the writers said, an answer at a con...
For me, I love the magazine interview (which I lost my copy of in a hard drive crash :( ) between seasons 2 and 3 in which Katee was asked if Kara and Lee would frak in a Viper in the coming season and she said something to the effect of "probably, they've done it everywhere else" !! My little fangirl brain kvelled. Frakking all over Galactica!
Which brings me to part 2:
Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to reply to this post and claim a location on Galactica. CIC, the kitchens, pilot's ready room, war room, Commander/Admiral's quarters, storage locker 1701, the chapel, Dogtown, flight deck, you pick it. And by the next time I'm running DPP (1 month, August 23rd), write something about that one time that Kara and Lee did the deed in your chosen location. Extra (non-existent, totally useless) points for the not obvious locations.

Date: 2010-07-25 02:41 pm (UTC)My location claim is the locale of deleted scene from Razor where Lee and Kara are rewatching the destruction of the Olympic Carrier... wherever that takes place. Debriefing room? Pilots Ready room? (Anyone know exactly what the official room designation is?)
My favorite off-screen mention is one by Jamie Bamber - You'd have to ask LatteAddict where it is from, as I saw it in one of her vids. (2:58)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8o33GTqLrPE
Basically someone asks: Who'd win in a fight - Starbuck or Apollo? And Jamie answers: "Starbuck, any day of the week. No contest." I don't know why, but it just makes me grin every time I see that. Jamie's lovely, of course, but there's such a spark of respect and admiration. *sighs* I'd have to say that even JB is a K / L shipper.

Date: 2010-07-25 06:19 pm (UTC)It's a little interview early in Season Four, and he's asked whether he feels like the biggest badass in the galaxy, or just the biggest badass in the galaxy's son. His response?: "I feel like the biggest badass in the galaxy's spurned lover." And he gives this beautiful smile afterward, so affectionate and amused. Lee should totally have smiled more, JB has a great grin! :)
Here's the link if you'd like to see it. It takes a minute to load, but once it's ready you can skip straight to the 3:17 mark and you'll find it:

Date: 2010-07-26 12:25 am (UTC)1) Here's a short little excerpt from the Ron Moore commentary on "He That Believeth in Me." RDM is reading the outline that the writers initially wrote to summarize the main character and plot points they wanted to get across at the beginning of Season Four. And this is what they said for Lee in their outline:
Lee's fundamental joy and belief in Kara galvanizes belief in himself -- second chance at a life out of uniform.
I like that. It sums up his emotions in a nutshell.
2) I enjoy Jammer's reviews of BSG, though they tend to be general reviews that aren't interested in Kara/Lee in particular. But sometimes he says something wonderful about them, and one of those times is in his review for "Islanded in a Stream of Stars":
What's key is that this plot point finds a 100 percent character moment between Kara and Lee, where he basically tells Kara that no matter what she is or how she came back, it doesn't matter. He's here, she's here, they're alive, and she can feel it when he touches her. That's what matters. I absolutely loved the moment where Kara is able to find her peace in this madness: The grin of calm serenity and acceptance on her face says more than dozens of lines of dialog ever could. And then she puts a picture of herself on the memorial wall. It's simultaneously a moment of tragic melancholy and joyous victory. Starbuck may have died, but she lives again because she can accept that fact.
3) And finally, I know this is really long, but it always makes me smile to listen to the commentary on "Scar" between Ron Moore and the two script-writers, Weddle and Thompson. It's so clear that they love these characters and actors. Here's them watching the "bright shiny future" scene:
Weddle: The incredible thing about Katee Sackhoff is you can write a subtext line and it's there, right on her face, crystal clear.
RDM: This is a great scene. This whole little bit coming up with her spitting the scotch. I don't know whose idea that was, if that was hers on the set?
Weddle: I think she did it on the set.
RDM: She just did it?
Weddle: But the other thing that's great about Nankin is he did several takes with different moods.
RDM: Oh. Yeah, yeah yeah.
Weddle: They did a sad one. They did this one. And so they have the freedom to try stuff like this.
RDM: And look at Jamie. I mean, the interesting thing about Lee and Jamie in this episode is he doesn't have a lot of scenes, but he's so spot on in every single scene.
Weddle: Yes.
RDM: I mean, she's more...right now you're sort of charmed by her and she is the showier part in this particular moment, but watch him and his reaction to her. It's very true and very honest and he - he's like going there with her, he's involved in the talk about losing all the pilots.
Weddle: He kind of senses what's going on with her...
RDM: That look on his face.
Weddle: Yeah. But he won't, y'know. He's not going to confront her about it.
Thompson: And he's also off of his own future, I mean, and he's just dealt with the idea- he's lost his- the woman he's been with for the...
Weddle: This is like a battleground scene, where they're talking about the present, talks about the bright and shiny future, but what are we doing, we just keep going on, y'know.
RDM: You're just gonna get blown away. I love that -- that whole little speech she gives about, "We're never gonna see that bright shiny future. We're just gonna..." I also like that little bit where he tips over the bottle. That's like somebody who's experienced pouring bottles. (Weddle & Thompson laugh) If you ever try to do that it's, like, kinda hard, actually, to make that little move. And this look -- this angle on Jamie -- I love this when she says, "Why don't we?"
Thompson: Yeah.
RDM: And the look on his face, the dawning awareness.
Weddle: That was scripted, but it takes a real actor to pull it off and make it work.
RDM: Yeah. "So why don't we?" And then, right here. (Weddle & Thompson laugh) That's so great. He's so, like, caught.
Hee! :)

Date: 2010-08-18 09:57 pm (UTC)Katee decides to be silly and spit the "scotch" at Jamie, and he goes with it, and doesn't miss a beat.
This is probably why I love the ship so much, on screen you feel their emotions so clearly. It just wasn't the same with K&S or L&D.
