I have a confession to make. In general, with a few exceptions, I don't like crossovers. Which is weird because my first real brush with Fandom on LJ was a pan-fandom RPG which was basically one giant crossover. So actually I guess what I mean is that I don't much like crossovers that take place in one of the involved characters' universes. Crossovers on neutral ground are easier for me to get into. But I'm well aware that all of that puts me in a minority, and I'm trying to get over the phobia.

Which, in a meandering way, brings me to today's topic:
Do you like crossovers involving our pilots? Are there fics/vids/etc that you would consider a gateway drug into BSG crossovers? Are there universes/characters that you'd love to see crossed with Starbuck and Apollo? Me, I have recently come to the conclusion that I want to see Kara and Fiona Glenanne from Burn Notice in a bar together. There will be drinking and innuendo and a really big brawl. And then they will go home and shag their boys silly.

What do crossovers say to you?

I've actually never run across any BSG crossovers that involved Kara/Lee, I don't think, though the one BSG crossover I've read (Reconciliation (http://betweenthebliss.livejournal.com/27604.html)) implied kind of a pre-K/L vibe. I hardly ever read crossovers, but I think it's mostly because I can count the fandoms I'm really into on one hand and canons I'm familiar with (especially when it comes to TV shows) don't add up to much either, and the odds of just finding one that interests me is relatively low. Predictably (if you know me), my crossover territory has been pretty much all in Star Trek. ^That particular fic is a BSG/Star Trek (reboot) crossover that just assumes the Colonials are their own race in the Trek universe, but aren't Federation and are kind of on their own in fighting the cylons (and the conflict actually involves a Romulan-Cylon alliance, which is kinda badass). It has some Kara/Kirk going on in it, which I love, but I kind of prefer them (as I wrote them in the only crossover I've written) as really good buddies who have fooled around once or twice. Said fic of mine settled into being Bones/Starbuck, a.k.a. the pairing I had to write because it made almost no sense to me but still felt kind of right within its context. But I still think in the end I enjoyed writing her being friends with Kirk just a smidgen more than the shippy stuff, and if I ever write a sequel will go for some more lul-worthy stuff with Kara and Spock awkwardly becoming affectionate with each other.
In general I find Kara really hard to put with people romantically (even when putting aside shipping bias) but there aren't many personality types I can't see her getting along with at all, so there are tons more friendship pairings I'd love to see her in in crossovers.
And as for Lee, he's even harder to pair with people, but I'd love to see him in a Doctor Who fic!

As I was reading, I was like, "You should read Rising Sign!" And then I realized that you wrote it, so no wonder you like Kara/Kirk as buddies (with benefits).

That's interesting. I'm kind of the opposite, but I can see the logic in it--and there are certainly a ton of crossover friendships I've imagined for Kara.

I would like to see Lee in a DW fic too. I kind of want Lee/Martha fic.

Hehe, I couldn't stop my mind going to Lee/Martha when Bamber and Agyeman are in L&O together. It seems like it would be pretty hot.

There is a Lee/Martha fic at the pornbattle. It's not especially porny, but I enjoyed it.

I normally don't like crossovers, either, but I think that's more a function of how the characters I enjoy reading about don't tend to work in the same 'verse. Also, lately, I could care less if anyone other than Kara and Lee are involved, but that's another issue entirely.

As for crossovers I DO like, if you watched the shortlived Dollhouse (on which Tahmoh costarred), [livejournal.com profile] rayruz's Did I Fall Asleep? (http://community.livejournal.com/tulipfic/tag/%21story:+did+i+fall+asleep) puts them in a non-space 'verse that just works. And when you think about it, Dolls and Cylons are basically science cousins. One is physically reborn and the other mentally reborn. And, like Echo, Kara can't help but be Kara, programming be damned.

Huh. While I was over at Ray's to get that link, I spotted a Faith-from-the-Buffyverse-in-space crossover that I haven't read... Faith + Kara = so much badass chick I have to go read it.

Anyone else have any Dollhouse cross-overs. I just think there would be so much cool cross-over territory to explore with cross-overs with that series.

Going to go and read Did I Fall Asleep?

Ray has more than one Dollhouse crossover, and there must be others. There were some in the [livejournal.com profile] bsg_pornbattle this week. :)

I love crossovers! I got really into them back in the Buffy fandom, as after a certain point I started to feel that I had read just about everything (hardly true, but I still felt that way) and crossovers open you up to infinite possibilities. Plus, they can be my self-indulgent crack in which I just throw my favorite characters together because I feel like it. (For example, the one I am working on now, which is a BSG/Chuck/Firefly/Doctor Who crossover with one character from each 'verse)

As for gateway crossovers, I'd second the rec for Did I Fall Asleep? It gives you two (and a half) familiar characters, and I think the setting is pretty easy to figure out even if you hadn't seen Dollhouse. I'd also suggest a fic like Scars That Words Have Carved (also by rayruz) as it is a BtVS character (Faith) transplanted into the BSG universe. You'll start to forget that it's a crossover at all, I swear.

My favorite crossover 'verse is probably BSG/Firefly, just because I think those two worlds go together really well. Also because I ship Kara/Mal. And kinda maybe Kara/Zoe too. Sadly, there are not as many of these stories as I would like.

My favorite crossover so far is Aegis (http://users.livejournal.com/wisteria_/993982.html) by [livejournal.com profile] wisteria_ which is a crossover with Kara and Matt Devlin of Law & Order: UK. Kara comes to the LOUK 'verse in this amazing two-part fic. It leaves me wanting much much more. Taragel did a pornbattle ficlet (http://taragel.livejournal.com/135070.html)in the same verse and it's also amazing.

I also enjoyed [livejournal.com profile] rayruz's Out of the Black (http://community.livejournal.com/tulipfic/63379.html) which is a Firefly/BSG crossover.

I'm hoping that [livejournal.com profile] shah_of_blah will expand her BSG/Lost crossover fic. I'd read that for sure.

I like crossovers as long as the premise is sound and as long as both K/L retain their "voice." If they don't, then I don't see the point and I'll stop reading. Having said that, the crossovers that tend to make sense to me are shows that can logically "fit." Don't know if that makes sense, but shows like Lost, Firefly or other sci-fi type things fit. Also, movies like Star Wars and Star Trek fit for me too. I think it would be weird, for example, to do a crossover with Pride & Prejudice (which I asked for once in a crack!comment but I really don't think it can be done) or Grey's Anatomy (ick).

I'm not really fond of crossovers, mainly because there aren't so many shows out there I love so much that I feel the need to look for more stories set in their particular universe. I have only felt this strongly about BGS and The X-files. I really enjoyed Aegis by Wisteria_ but I guess this is due to the fact that the idea that Lee and Kara would find each other againg in a different life really appeals to me. I would have liked that story even if I didn't know it was a LOUK crossover. Not knowing that also wouldn't make it impossible for anyone to get the story. I also read Out of Black. It is a nice story, but since I never watched Firefly, I felt no connection to those characters and I got the feeling I was missing something. I guess a BSG/Star trek crossover could work. I have seen some around but they usually involve a Kara/Kirk or Kara/Mckoy relationship, and I can't really enjoy that.

I enjoy well-done crossovers, but my tastes are similar to those many others have mentioned, a.k.a. I want the main characters to be Kara and Lee - if they're not together in it then I'm not really that interested in reading it. So that does cut down on the number of actual crossovers out there that I've found and enjoyed. But I have loved many fandoms over the years, and I'd be delighted to find K/L adventures in any one of them. Star Trek, Babylon 5, Buffy, Angel, Firefly, Star Wars, Highlander, Hercules: The Legendary Journeys, Doctor Who, Discworld, Harry Potter, Sherlock Holmes, The Man from UNCLE (Kara and Lee as '60s superspies!) -- I'm game to try any of these.

I've mentioned before that Kara and Lee as Jedi is an idea that appeals to me.

And I think a "Quantum Leap" crossover could be wonderful -- for those of you who've never heard of it, that was a sweet sci-fi show in the '90s whose main character was a time-traveller who "leaped into" (incorporeally possessed) the bodies of various ordinary people in history with a mission to change something in their lives for the better -- to "put right what once went wrong." I think it would be great to see him leap into someone like Helo or Adama or the Chief, with the mission to put right what went wrong in Kara's life -- maybe help her to avert the events of Maelstrom and guide humanity to a better road to Earth, and along the way help her work things out with Lee in a way that didn't fail spectacularly. Plus it would be fun since Dean Stockwell (Cavil) played the loveable sidekick in Quantum Leap -- dealing with his evil robot ancestor would be fun!!

I also really love historical AUs, which are a little different from crossovers, but I'd love to see more stories that put Kara and Lee together in the Trojan War, or ancient Rome, or the Napoleonic era (Hornblower crossover FTW!), or as rival pilots in the first decades of powered flight (Kara as Amelia Earheart, anyone?)

The thing I love about crossovers is their sense of new possibilities, and freedom from canon, and yet the texture and beauty of watching Kara and Lee really *fit* into a different world. I think innibis's fairytales are a beautiful example of how rich and imaginative and real it can feel to insert BSG characters into a familiar universe in unexpected ways.

Sorry, I know I'm blurring the lines of AUs and crossovers in this comment, but I really do think both have the potential for delightful stories.

Although I'm not that fond of crossovers, I totally agree with you on the historical AU. I used to read lots of The X-files fics and some of my favorite ones were historical. This is not something I have read so far in the BSG fandom, though.

P.S. ~~ or a svelt version of Bill Adama as Batman (think of the growly voice!), with Lee as Robin/Nightwing and Kara as Batgirl and/or Catwoman???? Roslin as Commissioner Gordon? Colonel Tigh as a very discourteous Alfred!? Anyone??? :)
