no_takebacksHey there! I hope the long weekend was a nice one for those of you who got to take Monday off. My husband and I spent much of our time watching “Superman” and “Strictly Ballroom,” two films which are guaranteed to restore your faith in human nature. There was much joy. This movie-fest may well have influenced today’s topic…
BSG and Star Wars are *so* easy to cross-over, it’s almost inevitable. Same time frame, same past-future technology. The original show was basically a Star Wars rip-off anyway. So, share your thoughts on how these two universes might meld, and how Star Wars elements could change particular elements of the BSG characters or story arcs. I’m hoping some of you will add drabbles or comment!fic as well as your lovely analysis.
~ Kara and Lee – obviously have tremendous natural affinity for the Force. How would they respond to Jedi training? How would they use Jedi powers? Would their new shared skills impede or promote their relationship? (telepathy! dangerous!) Would one or the other refuse to become Jedi? At certain points in the BSG journey, would one or both turn to the Dark Side? When they meet, are they padawans, knights, or masters? I would love to see Lee as Roslin's padawan and Kara as Bill's!
And if there are those among you who are not familiar with or fans of Star Wars, then I'd invite you to share any great scene from the movies that you would love to see Kara and Lee play together. Would you like to see them in that iconic closing scene from Casablanca, where a jaded Lee, who left the military to run that gin-joint like he’d always planned, has to renounce Kara’s love so that she can continue to be the inspiration for her husband Sam’s noble resistance to the Cylon occupation? Tell us all, in comments or comment!fic.

And, as a side note, has anyone read any crossover fic that mixes these two universes? I don’t believe I’ve ever seen any, myself. I’m hoping maybe amidala_thrace will be our liaison person here, if she’s around :)

Date: 2010-07-06 07:02 am (UTC)Funnily enough, when I write Kara (and Lee, though I've currently only written him like this in a crossover WIP that'll probably never see the light of the internet outside my Google docs folders) into the SW 'verse, she's not a Force user. I think this may possibly be because I'm not really a fan of Special Destiny!Kara and her bad cover band. I don't know. I liked Kara just fine before they started adding all the ~*~special destiny~*~ stuff. I liked that she was who she was without the aid of some mystical energy field that controlled her destiny. ;) (Oh, HAN♥) So I tend to think of (and write) her as a member of Rogue Squadron, kicking ass in an X-wing with Wedge and the others. (I also tend to put her in situations where she and Mara Jade have a sexy love affair, because yes.) I'd love to see her face when she saw the millionty different kinds of aircraft the SW 'verse has to offer, from A-wings (MY FAVORITE) to the various TIE models to the motherfrakking Falcon. I'd love to see her make the Kessel run. I'd love to see her guzzling Whyrren's Reserve with Han and Lando over a game of sabacc. I'd love to see her teach them how to play triad.
Meanwhile, Lee... Lee, I always envision in politics. I kinda like the idea that the Fleet shows up post-ep VI (and actually post-Thrawn trilogy but pre-Hand of Thrawn duology -- damn, is that what that's called? too lazy to Google atm), maybe over the wreck of a planet that used to be the Noghri homeworld (that was the theory I was working with when I wrote that Mara-Jade-is-going-to-kill-Tom-Zarek piece for A Ficathon Walks Into a Bar, anyway), thinking they've found Earth and it's wrecked but NO WORRIES THERE'S A WHOLE GALAXY OUT HERE, and they end up joining the New Republic, and...um, so, yeah, I could go on all night and never sleep, because Star Wars was my first love (and damn do I still love it), but I really should sleep, so rather than spill out my crossover 'verse thoughts all over this post, I'm just gonna go rest my head and hope I dream of X-wings.
BUT I WILL BE BACK.

I definitely think that if Lee found out he'd been born with such potential, he would feel he had to develop it, but I can totally see Kara choosing to stay free from the Jedi and their codes and their mystical gobbledegook (plus the old-school Jedi lifestyle would be *way* too ascetic for her). I can see her coming out of an interview with Yoda with a lifetime ban on ever setting foot in the Temple again :) hee!
I love the original Thrawn trilogy. Is it wrong for me to wish to play Kara and Lee in the Mara and Luke roles there, and have them meet when he crashlands on a planet full of ysalamiri and they have to trek through the forest together? :)
There are endless possibilities...
And Kara would totally make the Kessel run in less than *eleven* parsecs. I'm just saying :)

Eeee, Kara and Lee as Mara and Luke! That would be fab! You should totally write that!
Kara would absolutely beat Han's record, but Han (who I see as the older brother she never had) would be so proud he could burst. Thirty years later all the Solos and the Skywalkers would be sitting around the dinner table and someone would bring up Kara Thrace and her Kessel run and Han would be all, "Did I ever tell you--" and they would all chorus, "You taught her everything she knows. WE KNOW." And then Kara would come in and say something like, "Oh yeah? Was that before or after I took him for everything he was worth in sabacc?" and then there would be hugs.

I'm married to a big SW movies fan, though he hasn't delved far into the tie-ins or any of that.
There was a marathon on this weekend.
That's the extent of what I can contribute today. :)
(OH and I use this icon because Sam Witwer plays Starkiller in the SW video game series and that delights me a little. I'd read some Starkiller/Starbuck fic, yes I would.)

Date: 2010-07-06 10:29 pm (UTC)I grew up on Star Wars, yea in the ancient days before the Internet. It's amazing how many details are still lodged in the brain! I read many of the tie in books, though I haven't picked a new one up in about ten or twelve years. Occasionally I check in to see who has gotten killed off in the on-going books, but then it makes me sad so I stop looking (they're killing the kids, now!). I bet you'd like Mara Jade in the first three books where she showed up, though. She's very complicated and awesome, she seems like your kind of person.
And Lee and Kara with lightsabers? That's just cool :)

My head might explode trying to formulate dialog between Leoben and Yoda, but I think it really needs doing. :) Let's say, hypothetically, that Yoda taught Leoben his theology:
Yoda: Madness is to know the face of God... The universe I see. The patterns. The foreshadowing that every moment proceeds, of every day. All there, it is. See it, I do, and you do not. A surprise for you I have. Something to tell you about the future I have.
And um, Han and Kara... Why did I not think of them as a crossover 'ship ages ago?

Date: 2010-07-06 11:16 pm (UTC)Kara/Lee to me has always been equivalent to Han/Leia in the SW 'verse. Hence, icon. ;) Although I've believed for a long time that Lee and Prequel!Obi-Wan have quite a lot in common. *grin*
As for fics, I haven't yet encountered any that are specifically Kara/Han (dude, sign me up for THAT pairing ... and if anyone could either find or write Kara/Padmé, I would be, no joke, ETERNALLY IN YOUR DEBT), but there is some lovely Kara/Mara Jade over on AO3 - Faster, Faster (http://archiveofourown.org/works/20223), by our own
