DPP: Favorite Lee or Kara Pairing that's Not Lee/Kara

Hello again!

Since yesterday we had a bit of a 'thinky' topic (and some wonderful analysis and discussion), today I thought I'd do something fun. Hopefully you'll all agree...

I love Lee/Kara. And on a side note, I can never say it Kara/Lee because then I think of pie, which leads me to fat!Lee, which is just...no, so it's always Lee/Kara for me.

Lee and Kara are my OTP on this show, seriously. But I've never ascribed to the philosophy that you can then never ship either of those characters with anyone else (which is what someone tried to tell me when I said in HP my OTP is Ron/Hermione but I also ship Harry/Ron and Charlie/Hermione). I ship because I like the dynamic, or because I think the characters could be interesting together (especially if we don't know much about one of the characters).

So, I will admit I also have other ships I love that involve Lee and/or Kara. So, let's be brave, Shipper Nation, and admit that we (sometimes) love other ships, too. Just not as much as we love Pilots!

I can never ship Lee with anyone else. I just don't buy it.

My reply is a boring one, because I really don't ship Kara or Lee with anyone but each other. They're it, for me.

However, that being said, I don't mind Kara/Sam for what it was, because it seemed believable and messed up and, at times, endearing. I like the protective side of Kara that Sam sometimes brought out, much as I dislike the dismissive and cruel side of her that he also invited. And I get the sense that it was easy for her to tell him things (perhaps because his opinion of her mattered less to her than either Adamas' opinion did). She is so closed off and defensive with Lee sometimes that I see the scene in Maelstrom when she quietly tells Sam about her mother's abuse, and I think to myself that I'm glad she had someone there to just listen. But I don't read Kara/Sam fics or anything - I look upon the Kara/Sam relationship with a sense of understanding, and with the respect due to a worthy adversary who could have been my friend in other circumstances, which I imagine is rather similar to how Lee regarded it :)

Kara/Zak tends to break my heart, but again I respect it and I have read some pre-mini fics which handle it beautifully.

I just can't see Lee with anyone but Kara. It won't work. His whole life, there's never been anyone else who's ever held a candle to her, in my opinion. And when Lee loves, he has to commit completely; middle-of-the-road stuff never turns out well for him or the other parties involved. He's not built for casual romance, and his pattern of over-commitment to people who aren't Kara leads nowhere good.

Anyhow, that's where I stand, but don't let that rain on anyone else's parade :)

I definitely have certain pairings that I like and prefer above all others, but the truth is that I will read almost anything if it's well done. (Almost anything ... I do draw a line at Kara/Leoben, as it squicks me for various reasons.)

I'm kind of a 'closet' multi-shipper, as I don't really advertise it.

I'll too read practically anything as long as it's got Lee or Kara in it. I used to be pickier but I've mellowed a lot about pairings and stuff as I've gotten more comfortable in my various fandoms (my SG-1 ship list is insane).

And Lee/Romo intrigues me...

I agree with innibis in that I definitely prefer them with each other when they're both alive (or in the same universe), though I'm fine with some good Helo/Starbuck buddy frakking.

I'm intrigued by Lee/Kendra, though, and I love post-series Lee/Sonja.

Kara is where I get into crazy crossover territory because she's just so hard to match up with people, and in most cases I think it's more of a "I'd love to see them interact and play off of each other" than "I'd love to see them frak" way. I just finished watching Cowboy Bebop and am kind of struck by how she and Spike Spiegel have some similarities...I'm not sure Spike would fall in love with her, though.
I've written Kara/McCoy in a Trek/BSG crossover and am still kind of in love with them, but I can really only see the Kara of that fic and in that time of her life falling in love with him.

Well, if we are talking about any serious relationship, I can't see them with anybody else so that immediately rules out both Kara/Sam and even Kara/Zac, and of course Lee/Dee.

The idea of Lee/Kendra has its appeal in a tragic and dark way, as innibis pointed out above. In fact, it was one of innibis' fics that first made me think of it. And I liked it.

As for Kara, somehow I find it even more difficult. Perhaps because I can see her going for the ocasional one night stand with some nameless guy, but nothing more than that.

Actually ship? Like, complete with active fangirling? K/L. (Although I did once get into a Laura/Lee Macro War with icedteainthebag, and that was a cracktastic good time.)

However, when it comes to writing smut for things like bsg_pornbattle: all bets are off, yo. XD I've written Kara/Helo, I've written Laura/Lee, I've written a crossover where Kara ends up with Mara Jade (and wheee, I have more of that on my kink_bingo list, along with some Lee/Sam Seaborn from The West Wing, just because). And I love reading other pairings, like Kara/Kendra or Lee/Sam.

Also, like, OT, but I ship Zak/Dee, like, a billionty. (Good lord. So, I'm like, having a "Like Lilly Like Wilson" day (http://www.taylormali.com/index.cfm?webid=15), apparently. Like, for real. Like. Yeesh.)

I am totally monogamous when it comes to shipping, so I can’t ship Lee or Kara with other people. That being said… I find Lee/Kendra intriguing and I like Kara/Zak as the tragedy that it was, but I don’t ship them.

I once read a fic somewhere where Lee married an OC, Kara was Lee's best man at the wedding, and she ended up inflagrante delecti with Padadama o_O. I just see Bill as too much of a father figure so it was too incestuous for me.

That's such an AWESOME explanation! I bet if you look through the comment list, you can identify all of our personal "identity" ships based on who we can toss other pairings in with. I channel Kara... so it's not a surprise that I can ship Kara and others but not Lee. (Same reason as you: jealousy)

This is such a difficult question for me, because as rachelindeed has noted (for much better reasons than I'll be able to explain) I'm just 100% Lee / Kara all the way. And incidentally, the two of them constantly end up taking over the fanfic I try to write that doesn't include them.

If FORCED to give an answer, however, I'll add these:

Kara / Helo, though in my mind, it's just a friendly thing.

I'd like to be all eloquent, but this question prompts a very primal (and probably a bit juvenile) response.

O.M.G. Kara and Lee are, like, my one true OTP forever and all time and stuff. There is no one else. No Dee. No Sam. No Laura. Nobody. Just true love and angst and chemistry that lights my screen ON FIRE. Their passion burns with the fire of a thousand suns to the end of the universe. Forever and ever, amen.

Everyone else is certainly entitled to their opinions, but I can't see past them together to ship them apart.

I will read fic with Kara/anyone. But I prefer Kara/Lee, obvs...still, I sorta ship Kara/Sam, Kara/Zak, and Kara/Helo. Actually, I ship Kara/Zak as much as it is possible given that Zak is hardly there in canon. But I only like these ships within the confines of canon. Like, she was engaged to Zak and she does marry Sam and I can totally see her and Helo being friends with benefits back in Basic, so I'll read fic about any and all of those things.

But AUs, or stories where they are seriously together...it's gotta be Lee.

Also, I'm trying to figure out why Kara/Lee reminds you of pie...what pie does it sound like? I can't figure it out! But I imagine it's like how, back in the Buffy fandom, I heard Spike/Dru fans say "Sprusilla" and I could only laugh because it made me think of brussel sprouts.

I can't ship Lee whit anyone but Kara because I want him to only love her and care about her and no one else. The only exception to this rule is some Laura/Lee porn. That can be very hot occasionally.

Instead I can ship Kara with almost everyone. I just like the idea of everyone being in love with Kara, because come one, she is just that awesome... how can someone not to love her?

and most of all, Kara/Adama.
yep, I really have a thing for Kara/Adama, I know a lot of people find this gross, but for me the point is that all the Adama men are madly in love with Kara, and the major difference between them is the way in which they decide to express this love.
So as much as I love Kara/Zak, Kara/Lee and Kara/Adama relationship in canon I really like to explore other possibilities about them in fanon.

I don't really ship Lee with anyone else. And thiinking about it, I realize I mostly only ship Kara with other people if I'm interested in how it illustrates part of her character. For instance, I love Kara/Helo, generally as a sort of friends with benefits thing, because I can totally see that, how they care for each other as friends may go a little further than most but it's just their way of loving each other. I've slowly become interested in Kara/Zak, especially the beginning of Kara/Zak, because I like to think about how the mighty Starbuck might let herself be wooed.

Kara/Lee/Zak is one of my favorite things ever. 1.) IT'S SO HOT. 2.) I like the idea of wanting each other enough that a brother doesn't matter.

I'm also interested in Kara/Leoben. Not that I ship it, not that I support it at all. I think he raped her and therefore can't really ever be redeemed. But I think their relationship is incredibly interesting. I've only written it once, and it was hard because it was so painful for Kara, which is not something I ever really write. But I did enjoy exploring that part of her character, because it is a part of her character, even if I'd rather it not be.

Lately I've been interested in crossovers too--Kara/Mal (Firefly), Kara/Tony Stark (Iron Man), etc. I think I just love Kara so much that I want to see how other characters I love would react to her.

I can't really read Kara/Sam because too often it's too OTP for me, which is not how I see it at all (though I am interested in the relationship).

Lastly, of course, if it's hot--I'll read Kara/anyone. bsg_pornbattle FTMFW.

I don't ship them with anyone else, though I always did feel sorry for Sam in the Kara/Sam relationship and felt he deserved to find happiness with someone else and not get retconned into a tub of goo.

I am totally devoted to only Lee/Kara. I don't like seeing them with anyone else because they are at their greatest and their worst with each other. And they look totally hot together. Plus, they don't that good with anyone else.:)

Hmmmm...Other ships. I do like the thought of Kara/Helo (their antics amuse me) and I find Kara/Sam kinda tragic. In my opinion, Sam loves Kara, but she will never return it the way he wants. She loves him, of course, but not the same way. Granted, the scene were she leaves him on Caprica almost made me ship them right then and there, but I soon came to my senses (ie the scene when Lee kisses her when she gets back). Sam is safe for Kara, cause with Lee, she has the whole i-was-in-love-with-your-brother-and-kinda-caused-his-death-angst, which makes her run from Lee a little (OK a lot). That is also Lee's problem and why he marries Dee (and out of anger at Kara). But yet i do not ship Lee/Dee AT ALL, probably because i loved her and Billy way too much. I cried when he died.
That was longer then I had intended. Whoops.

I don't mean that in a mean way, and I'm definitely not trying to start a list of all the reasons it's a writer fail. I just don't get it. I have no trouble finding the logic or hotness in Lee with other people, or Dee with other people. I just can't wrap my head around enjoying them in a relationship with each other.
That said, the beauty of having so many fantastic, multi-facited characters on one show is that you can always find a reason for any two or three or four of them to get together.
