Before we get to today's topic, I really do have some unfinished business to take care of. ;) The poll for your favorite scenes is now closed, and the awards ceremony post will go up this evening.

Okay! With that announcement out of the way, let's talk about

In UB, Bill mentions to Laura that a dance is a military tradition. Now, since they've been on the run, they probably haven't had the time to have one previously, but if they had, would Kara and Lee still have ended up in the ring? At what points would they have been least likely to call each other out? Or would they always have fought? Who else would they call out and why? If civilians could participate, would Lee and Sam have fought?

Talk amongst yourselves! :D See you back here tonight for the exciting conclusion to YOUR FAVORITE PILOTS SCENES! /dramatic announcer voice

he'd have to be pushed into it somehow. He'd fight for her to keep her from Leoben or similar if he knew about what was happening on NC, but not from someone who she obviously prefers over him. Those hits he'll just take.

There are times when he obviously pulls himself together enough to make himself known to her, but every time he does, something happens to distract him or dissuade him. It happens to her too, likr after Sacrifice when Dee's with him in sickbay, or after she discovers her body on the first Earth. They do it to themselves, each thinking that the other couldn't possibly prefer them when they have such obviously better choices.... Nevermind that they're both wrong.

Wow, excellent points and evidence in both this and your previous comment. I agree. Lee is very much the masochist when it comes Kara, probably mostly b/c of the guilt he still feels over all that happened (or didn't happen but that he wanted to happen) when she was with Zak.

Thanks. Lee makes the most sense in my head, at least I understand where he's coming from even if I don't particularly agree with him, so when I write, it's mainly from his POV. I adore Kara, but she's still something of a mystery to me a lot of the time. A lot of the masochistic reasoning is summed up in the argument with Sam on the algae planet. The 'if she's dead, I'll shoot you,' 'If she's dead, I'll let you' exchange. At least in my mind.
