I’ve been pondering the state of our ship tonight and started thinking about the classifications of shippers as “Kara people” or “Lee people”. It’s a bit of an odd phenomenon, but it seems that many of us identify so completely with one or the other of them, that we actually came to be shippers after falling in love with either Kara or Lee and then acknowledging the obvious truth that they were meant for each other. (As opposed to falling for the couple first and then coming to appreciate its individual parts.)
We then seem to develop love for the other side of the coupling almost because we love the first character so much that we want their emotional/spiritual/romantic life to be successful. Maybe I am biased because this is the road I followed into shipperdom, having first fallen in love with Kara, then with Kara/Lee, and finally with Lee individually as I paid more attention to him. However, despite my possible bias, I know I have heard similar stories from at least a few of you, so I’m not completely alone in this phenomenon.
Therefore, I’d like to spend the next two days focusing on our pilots as individuals so that we may better appreciate them as a couple. Since I’ve seen more lists extolling Kara’s awesomeness than I have Lee lists, I think we should start with Lee. Come on guys, the boy deserves his own list!! (If you've already made one, please feel free to post a link!)
P.S.--I don’t want this post to become Kara vs. Lee (gods know they do that to themselves enough on their own!). Also, maybe this is my naïve desire to find the best in people, but it’s next to impossible for me to comprehend loving one part of K/L without loving the other. Anyhow, this post is not the place to debate who did what to whom on New Caprica, etc. We are now officially celebrating, folks!! We are still alive and kicking one year after the worst finale in history. So…Thursday is Lee day, Friday is Kara day, Saturday is Kara/Lee day, and Sunday is Kara/Lee Shippers day. Thus proclaimeth the Trooper Kitty.
Let the Lee love begin...

1. Sometimes doing the "right" thing is important, even if it's not the "smart" thing.
2. He wears his heart on his sleeve and it's adorable.
3. He's Captain Apollo.
4. He had the balls to point a gun at Tigh's head.
5. He is more brilliant than he lets people realize. (He let Kara take credit for the stealth mission on Res. Ship, he made Colonial One disappear on a hunch from war college, he goes right to work as CAG at the end of the worlds and acts like he's been doing it forever)
6. He pushes everyone else aside to get to Kara when she comes back from the dead. (He gets to her WAY before Sam does.)
7. He puts family first. (Zak, Kara, even Adama)
8. He isn't immune to gaining weight when he's depressed.
9. He "knows how to handle Kara Thrace". ;)
10. He is a perfectionist.
11. He didn't settle for being what his father wanted him to be.
12. He let Romo keep his dead cat that must have smelled awful in the room with them...and then brought him Jake.

Date: 2010-03-18 09:48 am (UTC)Ok so I have been a Lee!girl since the first moment I saw him and then I loved Kara before I realized they were meant to be...anyway this is my list (and it has some points in common with my favorite character ever, Dean Winchester):
1.Despite everything he loved his family and he's a big brother. I love big brothers!
2.He's a brave.
3.He's Apollo and I think the call-sign name is meaningful, considering who Apollo is.
4.He needed to be reassured sometimes (as before his mission in The Hand of God). I love vulnerable!Lee.
5.He did what he thought was right even though it's not always the best choice for him.
6.He was loyal to his own beliefs but he was also able to grow up and embrace his destiny (unfortunately bad timing when it was about Kara).
7.He's brilliant and he shined when he let himself go.
8.He's a great CAG and he took the burden of the responsability without complaining.
9.He trusted and believed in Kara, always.
10.He's not perfect and he's flawed, but he hadn't lost the ability to love and believe even when there was the end of the world around him.
11.He faced his father and tried to rebond.
12.He admitted he didn't want to live anymore.
13.He falls and he turns up.
14.He regretted his past actions and was in pain because he couldn't amend.
15.He cared, for everything.

PS1. Hopefully, I will update my LJ this weekend, I am making a K/L fanmix to "celebrate" it's been a year since the finale ;P)
PS2. My eyes (and my sight) are much better, btw. Today I just had an appointment with my doctor and she told me that everything is OK :)
