DPP: Flip The Script!

Today's DPP is on the simple side, but may require a bit of thinking (and if thought serves as ficspiration, so much the better!) - what are the situations pilots got into in the series that you think could be interesting if reversed?

(this basically involves rearranging canon - one of my favourite potential 'flips' to consider is the idea of Kara having a sister, and Lee dating said sister before meeting her. Which provides me with the excuse to post today's pic : )



Go ahead and let loose with all the reversals you can think of - there's potential for anything, from pure crack to excruciating angst in here!

This is one of my favourites precisely because of the potential for extra angst: if Kara had a younger sister growing up under Socrata's thumb, I always thought that she'd have regarded her as someone to protect and be responsible for (and I love that fanon seems to place Lee in this role for Zak too, against Carolanne's drinking habit) and as a result, falling for her boyfriend would bring an EXTRA layer of angst and 'oh no we mustn't' for Lee and Kara.

(and an extra layer of devastation for Lee if he's said baby sister's flight instructor, compromises his principles to pass her on a flight test, and then she ends up dying as a result)

I guess we all know this one, since it nearly became canon and was only prevented by Jamie asking what Lee would be up to if Kara went off and got her own Battlestar.

But just imagine the possibilities....

This is a really great one because it changes the element of faith in the story. Kara believes and would be a whole different kind of supporter for Lee coming back from the dead, more active - more like she comes back from the dead in many ways.

I'll have to do more thinking about how it would affect the rest of their relationship/reconciliation. Interesting.

Kara would have been his second on the garbage ship (or what ever it was) and they would have had all the hot paint sex.

Plus the whole Cylon Alliance would be in question 'cus even if he did die and come back I don't think Lee would be as accepting of Leoban as Sam was.

I don't know what she'd have done, but the net viewer reaction would still be the same: 'WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY?!?!?!??!', followed by much sobbing and inability to understand why the poof was necessary at all.

I guess this subject really brings out the angstbunny in most of us, though to be fair it's all generated by canon itself.

what if Lee was the one who got sent to Caprica for the Arrow of Apollo, and met a nice carboard cutout of a heroic yet hot resistance girl while he was there?

What if Kara was the one who mutinied? (can't see her doing it, to be honest, not over government/democratci principle issues anyway but could she have another cause for it?)

Interestingly, the more I think about this twist, the more it starts from Kara and Lee working together. Very "I'll go back to Caprica." "I'll make sure we end up on Kobol when you get back with the arrow." Which makes the twist of a 'Samantha' both more intriguing and less likely to happen - if Lee left with Kara's blessing.

actually, YES to this. Sam only really became a thing because Lee and Kara were on the outs and Kara needed to distract herself from a ton of things - if they parted as friends, a Sam/Samantha would be rather unlikely, to say the least of it.

Without needing to be a romantic foil, Samantha does end up with the potential of being a more interesting character. More like Kendra for example.

One who was kind of cool on her own but the second Lee was around became just Mrs. Adama... Oh, sorry Dee. I didn't see you there.

Oh, girl, I have all kinds of feelings about Dee too. How she managed to go from one of my favourite characters in S1 to, well, the doormat of S3 is one of the great mysteries of tv writing *sigh*

What if it was Lee who slept with someone else on Colonial Day?

I mean, Kara really put herself out there with the whole dress thing (you try telling me that wasn't 100% for Lee, just try it) so she would be super wounded by the rejection (boo is fine with the physical pain, but has no idea how to respond to feelings).

I could see the whole exchange of punches going down, but Lee would be rambling on clueless as Kara got more and more worked up and then, POW! POW!

Kara would be pissed that she reacted (Frak it, it's not like I've got some claim on him) and Lee would be both super confused and maybe guilty that he punched back (which would be rolled up into the guilty feelings he had over calling Kara's name in bed ;D and the guilty feelings for lusting after his dead-brother's girl and the guilty feelings for...)

Plus, the likelihood that Lee would have slept with someone that wouldn't have slipped about his 'slip' to Kara is pretty darned low. Which is a whole 'nother wrinkle. ;D
