(now I wonder how much time passed between this and UB, since Torn/A Measure of Salvation happened a few weeks before this, and those eps took place only some weeks after the exodus....)

Well, if it's been 5 months since the exodus according to the timeline (don;t even get me started on how Hero screwed up there) it was probably several weeks/a couple of months at least, and Kara could have had a trim.
