I'm pretty sure that for this situation to be ideal, there should be a lot less clothes in this picture.

Today's DPP is something I've been curious about for a while: what other couples (outside of BSG) do you guys ship? Did you ship anyone before encountering pilots, or were Lee and Kara the first people to drag you kicking and screaming into shipperland? Have you discovered other couples since? Were they anything at all like pilots?

And if they were, what are your shipper kinks that pilots satisfied? Or what does it tell you about why you loved pilots in the first place? (mine was the best-friends-with-chemistry thing, plus that river in Egypt we shan't name right now)

Sorry, this is quick: Cally/Avon, B7; Mulder and Scully, Xfiles; Daine/ Numair/Ozorne, Tam Pierce; Cas/Dean and Ruby/Sam, SPN; Nine/Rose, plus Jack, DW... I have others but will have to come back. The most obvious this is, I rarely just ship ship. Even if I have people I want people to be with, I am never singular about it. I'm always willing to write them for others.

Oh, and Pilots gave me banter and the fight side by side, thing.

I think Jack Harkness ships himself with anything and anyone! ;)

Despite being relatively well-read and a theatre buff, I had never before...and would not be surprised if I never again...shipped like I ship Kara/Lee. I blame Katee and Jamie for this dilemma.

Really though, I think it may be television as a medium that did it for me. I don't watch much television now and I watched none at all then (other than bsg) and the weekly and seasonally questioning 'when and how' ('if' was not an option and it still isn't...to steal from The Princess Bride a little, 'death (aka RDM) cannot stop true love').

Books, movies, plays were/are all done over hours..so I have couples that I love but it's not the same commitment. Television (and the amazing actors and characters we got for our wonder twins) created a longer and different connection for me, one that has been difficult to shake. It also brought me here though so it's all good.

Usually when I get really excited about a character, then I focus on whatever their most important relationship is, be that romantic or familial or friendship. So I have cared a lot about many fictional relationships, but only a part of those have been romances, let alone requited romances. But of the romances, here are a few that have been special to me, with vid evidence in support :)

David and Maddie, from Moonlighting

A vid for them, Good Lovin' (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b3F60RXT7w8)

Lizzie and Darcy, from Pride & Prejudice

Vid for them, Over my Head (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mqGxlVQ9Tik)

Odo and Kira, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine

A vid for them, Extraterrestrial (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rVB3EomZ0t8)

And on the "ambiguously unrequited" side, I'm fond of Lennier and Delenn from Babylon 5 and Spike and Buffy from BtVS. On the "definitely totally unrequited" side, I like Snape and Lily from Harry Potter.

Hee! In looking at my choices and searching for commonalities with Lee and Kara, I think maybe what I like is having two strong personalities who are fundamentally kindred spirits but are nonetheless able to argue with each other intelligently.

A little l like rachelndeed I tend to choose a fave character and then go from there. In most of the first season I was fairly eh about pilots but then there was the Leegasm and I decided that if that was what Kara wanted then I wanted it too. I'd had similar shipping experiences like Donna and Josh on West Wing or Emma and Mr Knightly or Jim and Pam on The Office. It comes down to liking a character and wanting them to have what they want.

I shipped Janeway/Q and B'Elanna/Tom in ST: Voyager (long long long ago), Jack/Daniel in SG1 (I am ashamed), Fraser/RayK in Due South, Sam/Ainsley in West Wing (also CJ/Special Agent Sunshine :( ), Willow/Tara in Buffy, Wash/Zoe in Firefly (I have a history of liking snarky pilots and warrior women), and Casey/Danny in Sports Night. I basically fangirl best if I have a ship to ship. Since BSG premiered and pilots took over my brain, I've added Myka/HG in Warehouse 13, Steve/Tony in the Avengers, and Kate Kane/Renee Montoya in DCU.

I love Natasha/Clint, too. I like them better as friends in a lot of ways, though I totally understand where the shippiness comes from.

Jack/Daniel is... problematic as a ship. And very very problematic in fic. It was my first fanfic fandom.
