Daily Pilots Post: Crossover Craziness
Mar. 11th, 2010 09:25 amFirst, just a reminder that the DPP Party Train NEEDS YOU! If you'd like to sign up for a week of pilots posting fun, there are still plenty of slots open for the next few months over here.
Now, on to our DPP. I think most K/L shippers would agree that the chemistry between Katee and Jamie as Kara and Lee is pretty incendiary and incredibly rare. I was talking to someone (Cheryl?) recently about how it's too bad that the studios don't really use repertory like casting nowadays (as they perhaps did in the 1930s and 1940s, casting the same actors against each other again and again in multiple roles). To that end, what other film or movie roles would you like to see these actors tackle, either as themselves or even funnier maybe, as some crazy sort of crossover/transplanted Kara and Lee?
Here's a few examples to start you off:
The Cutting Edge -- Most of you already know I'm taking pilots and putting them on ice for my PilotsBigBang fic coming up. Kara as the cocky, charismatic Olympic Hockey Player whose dreams of gold get crushed by an unfortunate incident that ends her career. Lee as the prissy, uptight figure skater who hasn't been able to live up to his father's expectations or retain a partner thanks to that impenetrable chip on his shoulder.
His Girl Friday--This is my favorite classic movie starring Rosalind Russell and Cary Grant as bantering exes. Insert Kara instead of Roz as Hildy, the hotshot news reporter whose about to chuck her career to settle down with the pleasantly unassuming Bruce for a quiet life on New Capr--- uh I mean the countryside. ;) Her ex/editor Walter (lol, that's almost as bad as Leland right?) can't bear to let her go, so he assigns her one last case to cover the execution of a convicted murderer (Baltar? With Six as the girlfriend? HEE) and soon Hildy is so caught up in the case, she forgets all about Bruce and rides off into the sunset with Walter to get remarried and keep chasing hot scoops. (It all has a kind of buddycops tinge to it, don't it?)
Buffy Starbuck, the Vampire Slayer?--What if Kara's chosen (a bit later-in-life maybe, say college?) to be The One who vanquishes the vamps/demons/cylons/creatures of the night? How about Lee as a younger version of Giles, her uptight watcher whom she clashes with (and occasionally romances) at every turn? Imagine those training sessions! Hee. Who would be her Scooby gang?
Alias--This one might be too easy/close already, but Kara as the young super-secret spy working for the CIA, or whom she thinks is the CIA!, until they kill her fiance Zak and she goes to the real CIA and becomes a double agent with Lee as her handler. (Would he still be Zak's brother in this verse? Does she go to him, not knowing he works for the real CIA, and confess her fears about what happened to Zak, and he takes her in to the real CIA? But can he forgive her for getting his brother killed, even though it wasn't her fault?) OOh the intrigue! The drama! THE ANGST IN HIGH HEELS. Throw in a little Tigh and Papadama and Roslin and maybe Leoben (as someone obsessed with her as the Rambaldi prophecy girl, right?) as the parental/boss figures and it could be all kinds of crazy!
The possibilities are endless. So who/what crazy crossover do you think should star Kara and Lee or Katee and Jamie? Or what original premise straight from your own brain would you like to see them star in next? Hit us up with your hot crossover/recast ideas and maybe someone will even be inspired to write some fic!! ;)

Date: 2010-03-11 03:21 pm (UTC)Jamie's certainly familiar with the period pieces, but Katee seems to have such a modern sensibility. That would be a good stretch for her I think! What classic would you pit them in? Other than Emma?

From:Bee demands some classics!
Date: 2010-03-11 04:22 pm (UTC)They'd be brilliant in North by Northwest, with Lee as the unsuspecting businessman who accidentally gets tangled up with a nasty spy ring and Kara as the undercover agent sent in to watch over him.
Also? Vertigo. Omg, the brilliance would melt by brain, not to mention the utter angsty perfection that is that film. Lee's the lawyer-turned-detective who has a debilitating fear of heights. While he recovers from a recent trauma, he's asked to trail the wife of a friend who seems possessed by a ghost. He follows her and becomes obsessed with her, and the two fall in love. But he can't save her form her demons and loses her when she jumps to her death.... only to find a woman months later who looks just like her, and he goes on a terrible hourney to recreate his lost love. Kara is of course the woman he loved, but she's far from dead-- just caught in a web of lies and deceit and ends up playing two versions of herself. This film bypasses angst and just goes straight for tragic despair. OMG, I love it.
And let's not forget Notorious. Kara's the daughter of an enemy of the state and agrees to become a spy. Lee's her cool and calm handler, but they soon fall in love only to find out that the mission is... Kara's got to hop back in the sack with an old flame to get info on thebaddies. OH, THE ANGST! HOW DO I LOVE THEE?
Re: Bee demands some classics!
Date: 2010-03-11 04:28 pm (UTC)The Vertigo desc. is really interesting because it made me think: What if TWO KARAS came back after Maelstrom? Hee.

Date: 2010-03-11 05:27 pm (UTC)I want to see them as the kids from The Notebook. (SHUT UP). C'mon, undeniable love, adorable banter, and sexy goodness!
They split up because their from different backgrounds. He never stops thinking about her from the moment they meet. She faces all this pressure from her mother to
live up to her destinybe more and marry the right guy. She falls for a perfectly niceresistancewar hero who is all pretty and charismatic but he's not the hard working passionate, poetry reading man she really loves.Jamie/Lee/Noah fights on the front lines of the war, returns home and still thinking about her. Rebuilds the home he always want to share with her, makes her a PAINTING studio even though she's not there with him yet. He gets scruffy and hot and hooks up with
Deewho is a war widow but still isn't the woman he loves. They finally reunite kiss in the rain and then the sexing again the wall...Oh Mah Lawd. Finally they get thier shit together and realize Crazy
SocrataMama was hiding all the letters he wrote to her and they choose to be together. They get married, have a family, and ultimately die with each other because they can't live without each other.Plus I can totally see Kara/Katee/Allie in the scene at the beach where she's all "I want to come back as a bird" and she's insistent that he says he wants to be a bird too and he simply says "if you're a bird then I'm a bird" HELLS YES. Take that stupid pigeons they will be birds TOGETHER.
Also, tell me you can't see them having this exchange:
Allie: You arrogant son of a bitch.
Noah: Would you just stay with me?
Allie: Stay with you? What for? Look at us, we're already fightin'
Noah: Well that's what we do, we fight... You tell me when I am being an arrogant son of a bitch and I tell you when you are a pain in the ass. Which you are, 99% of the time. I'm not afraid to hurt your feelings. You have like a 2 second rebound rate, then you're back doing the next pain-in-the-ass thing.
Allie: So what?
Noah: So it's not gonna be easy. It's gonna be really hard. We're gonna have to work at this every day, but I want to do that because I want you. I want all of you, for ever, you and me, every day. Will you do something for me, please? Just picture your life for me? 30 years from now, 40 years from now? What's it look like? If it's with him, go. Go! I lost you once, I think I can do it again. If I thought that's what you really wanted. But don't you take the easy way out.
Allie: What easy way? There is no easy way, no matter what I do, somebody gets hurt.
Noah: Would you stop thinking about what everyone wants? Stop thinking about what I want, what he wants, what your parents want. What do YOU want? What do you WANT?
That is all passion and awesomeness that they would kill. Yep, I want to see it. I don't even care if its cheesy.

Date: 2010-03-11 06:01 pm (UTC)I think I'd like to see them in a re-imagining of Camelot. I can't decide if I'd want something like Mists of Avalon, casting Katee as Morgaine (the head witch and Arther's half-sister/lover/only son's mother) and Jamie as Arther, or more classic, with Katee as Gwenevere and Jamie as Lancelot. Or even Katee as Gwenevere and Jamie as Arther, because they really did love each other for all that every romantic relationship either of them touched was doomed from the start.
You know the modern-day Romeo and Juliette that was done... 10 or 15 years ago? With Claire Danes and Leonardo Decaprio? Low-hanging fruit, since Lee/Kara pretty much = Romeo/Juliette, but still. I think Katee and Jamie could knock something like that out of the park.

Date: 2010-03-11 07:27 pm (UTC)I always imagine Jamie and Katee in an American remake of jeux d'enfants with Marion Cotillard and Guillaume Canet. Even though they're too old now, I guess. It would be perfect casting!
It's an interesting movie (if you're into French movies) and well worth catching for K/L fans. The main characters are basically psycho versions of our pilots, the're in love with each other and totally co-dependent, but they also hurt each other and have to one up each other constantly.
She comes from poor background and has kind of an inferiority complex, he has major daddy issues and is sort of a golden boy (academically).
It's worth catching for the one scene alone, in which he dares her to wear her underwear on top of her clothes in an important exam in school. I would pay so much to see Katee and Jamie playing that scene!
It has a very strange ending and they basically turn into total sociopaths, so it's like an extreme version of K/L!

From:MORE CLASSICS!
Date: 2010-03-11 07:45 pm (UTC)I love both the 1954 and 1995 versions.
Here's the pitch:
Young daughter of a chauffeur grows up next to a wealthy family with two sons. She falls for the younger son and believes herself to be in love with him, but the elder son, for what at first is a cold and calculated motive, sets out to make him fall for her to keep him away from baby brother. He suceeds and get way more than he's bargains for-- b/c he falls for her too.

Date: 2010-03-11 08:11 pm (UTC)My BSG kids could totally be the kids from Rydell High. Grease!
Kara as Danny...Biker who ran around the beach and had a summer romance with a foreign stranger. Has trouble with team sports and wants to kick peoples asses.
Lee as Sandy...vestal virgin and wide eyed dreamer. Fell head over heels for her summer romance.
The two are reunited at school and zany antics take place!
Helo is Kenickie. Six is Rizzo. Anders is Cha Cha. Dee is Patty Simcox. Roslin is Principle McGee. Ellen Tigh is Blanche. Papadama is the Coach Calhoune. Tyrol is the Auto Shop Teacher. Tigh is the Teen Angel. Romo is Frenchy. Hot Dog as Doody. Leoben is Balmudo. Gaeta is the dorky Eugene. Athena is Marty.
yep...I can do this all day. Don't make me get started on Grease 2.

Date: 2010-03-11 08:55 pm (UTC)The Notebook redone with Jamie/Katee would be fantastic. Jamie/Katee have such a great chemistry, I would love for them to do a romantic comedy. Something like 'How to Loose a Guy in 10 Days'. There would be friction but love at first sight and them just plain ol' avoiding each other for a while.
If we do something agnsty and sad, Titanic. Kara could be the poor passenger from the wrong side of the streets. Lee would be stuffy first class passenger, engaged to Dee. Ellen could play his mother and Roslin could be Molly. Adama could be the Captain and Tigh could be his not drunk first officer. Anders could be Fabricio and HotDog could be the other friend, whose name escapes me at the moment.

Date: 2010-03-11 09:57 pm (UTC)Glee!!!!!!!
Date: 2010-03-11 10:07 pm (UTC)While we're inserting our favourite duo into current shows, how about Glee? I want to see Kara/Katee go up against Sue Silvester and Lee/Jamie emo it out with Will. Maybe they could compete over who's had worse luck in relationships. And Kara (and her female football players?!?) would kick Sue's butt the second she was mean to Lee, because Kara's the only one allowed to do that.
Huh, I think I'm finally getting what people mean by wonder twins. The way they're so awful to each other (at least sometimes) but they join forces to defend each other when someone else threatens one of them. Huh.
Re: Glee!!!!!!!
Date: 2010-03-11 11:13 pm (UTC)I would definitely love to see Katee in a singing role on Glee cause she has a great voice.

Date: 2010-03-12 12:15 am (UTC)Taming of the Shrew - non-misogynist reading, of course. I think they could do something akin to '10 Things I Hate About You' but without the high school setting.
Twelfth Night - Though I am not sure which would be Viola. This is kind of a cracky one.
And definitely Much Ado About Nothing. ;)
I'll try to think of more on my way to work. ;)

Date: 2010-03-12 07:31 am (UTC)Twelfth Night is friggin hilarious!! i read it for the first time when i was oddly enough 12!! so fricken great! hmmm Six could be Viola, no Viola would be Kara as she spends most of the play acting like a man.... Duke Orsino is Lee, Olivia is Sharon, Sebastion is Helo, i know Helo and Kara as twins is a little bit of a stretch but i think it works for what we are going for.
if (blech) anders has to be in it he can be Sir Andrew Aguecheek because he is an idiot.

Date: 2010-03-12 12:16 am (UTC)CrackGrease 2!Grease monkey hot girl works at a gas station and is the leader of the all girl Pink Ladies, but is bucking the trend because she doesn't want to "belong" to the leader of the T Birds. SOOOOO
Kara/Katee has to be Stephanie because she's bad ass, can sing and wants nothing more than to find her perfect man...a knight on a steel horse (thanks Bon Jovi!)....the "Cool Rider"
Lee obviously is Michael, a british exchange student whose cousin fell in love and learned how to be cool at Rydell High. He's a bit stuffy, a little nerdy and a whole lotta hot. It's love at first sight when he sees Stephanie in the halls, he finds every reason to be around her and find out her perfect man.
Supporting Cast: Most of the regulars are the same as above. Roslin as McGee, Papa as the Coach, Romo as Frenchy, Anders is Johnny, Tory is Suzette, Dee is Suzette's little sister who skateboards and makes googoo eyes at Michael, Baltar is the sex ed teacher "reproduction!", Six is the hot teacher, Tigh is the teacher who is on drugs, Helo is Goose, Athena is Maureen.
Picture them at the bowling alley dancing and singing, cylons and colonials alike...because they're gonna rock, they're gonna roll, they're gonna bop....they're gonna bowl!! They will Score Score Score Tonight.
Michael drives up in black leather riding his cycle and blows Steph away....fast forward to the end where Kara has to dress up like a Christmas Tree because she's a Girl for all seasons. She thinks Lee's dead and sings her feelings out. At the end it's revealed he's alive at the luau, she's dressed her big fancy dress and he's all hot in leather (again). He's welcomed into the gang and the whole group locks arms and sings together and graduates and freeze jumps for photos in the yearbook.
Yeah...you can see it...right??? Now I will crawl back into the weird cave I came from. Not as good as the original, but sequels rarely are. :P
