Daily Pilots Post: Crossover Craziness
Mar. 11th, 2010 09:25 amFirst, just a reminder that the DPP Party Train NEEDS YOU! If you'd like to sign up for a week of pilots posting fun, there are still plenty of slots open for the next few months over here.
Now, on to our DPP. I think most K/L shippers would agree that the chemistry between Katee and Jamie as Kara and Lee is pretty incendiary and incredibly rare. I was talking to someone (Cheryl?) recently about how it's too bad that the studios don't really use repertory like casting nowadays (as they perhaps did in the 1930s and 1940s, casting the same actors against each other again and again in multiple roles). To that end, what other film or movie roles would you like to see these actors tackle, either as themselves or even funnier maybe, as some crazy sort of crossover/transplanted Kara and Lee?
Here's a few examples to start you off:
The Cutting Edge -- Most of you already know I'm taking pilots and putting them on ice for my PilotsBigBang fic coming up. Kara as the cocky, charismatic Olympic Hockey Player whose dreams of gold get crushed by an unfortunate incident that ends her career. Lee as the prissy, uptight figure skater who hasn't been able to live up to his father's expectations or retain a partner thanks to that impenetrable chip on his shoulder.
His Girl Friday--This is my favorite classic movie starring Rosalind Russell and Cary Grant as bantering exes. Insert Kara instead of Roz as Hildy, the hotshot news reporter whose about to chuck her career to settle down with the pleasantly unassuming Bruce for a quiet life on New Capr--- uh I mean the countryside. ;) Her ex/editor Walter (lol, that's almost as bad as Leland right?) can't bear to let her go, so he assigns her one last case to cover the execution of a convicted murderer (Baltar? With Six as the girlfriend? HEE) and soon Hildy is so caught up in the case, she forgets all about Bruce and rides off into the sunset with Walter to get remarried and keep chasing hot scoops. (It all has a kind of buddycops tinge to it, don't it?)
Buffy Starbuck, the Vampire Slayer?--What if Kara's chosen (a bit later-in-life maybe, say college?) to be The One who vanquishes the vamps/demons/cylons/creatures of the night? How about Lee as a younger version of Giles, her uptight watcher whom she clashes with (and occasionally romances) at every turn? Imagine those training sessions! Hee. Who would be her Scooby gang?
Alias--This one might be too easy/close already, but Kara as the young super-secret spy working for the CIA, or whom she thinks is the CIA!, until they kill her fiance Zak and she goes to the real CIA and becomes a double agent with Lee as her handler. (Would he still be Zak's brother in this verse? Does she go to him, not knowing he works for the real CIA, and confess her fears about what happened to Zak, and he takes her in to the real CIA? But can he forgive her for getting his brother killed, even though it wasn't her fault?) OOh the intrigue! The drama! THE ANGST IN HIGH HEELS. Throw in a little Tigh and Papadama and Roslin and maybe Leoben (as someone obsessed with her as the Rambaldi prophecy girl, right?) as the parental/boss figures and it could be all kinds of crazy!
The possibilities are endless. So who/what crazy crossover do you think should star Kara and Lee or Katee and Jamie? Or what original premise straight from your own brain would you like to see them star in next? Hit us up with your hot crossover/recast ideas and maybe someone will even be inspired to write some fic!! ;)

Date: 2010-03-11 03:21 pm (UTC)Jamie's certainly familiar with the period pieces, but Katee seems to have such a modern sensibility. That would be a good stretch for her I think! What classic would you pit them in? Other than Emma?

Date: 2010-03-11 04:22 pm (UTC)They'd be brilliant in North by Northwest, with Lee as the unsuspecting businessman who accidentally gets tangled up with a nasty spy ring and Kara as the undercover agent sent in to watch over him.
Also? Vertigo. Omg, the brilliance would melt by brain, not to mention the utter angsty perfection that is that film. Lee's the lawyer-turned-detective who has a debilitating fear of heights. While he recovers from a recent trauma, he's asked to trail the wife of a friend who seems possessed by a ghost. He follows her and becomes obsessed with her, and the two fall in love. But he can't save her form her demons and loses her when she jumps to her death.... only to find a woman months later who looks just like her, and he goes on a terrible hourney to recreate his lost love. Kara is of course the woman he loved, but she's far from dead-- just caught in a web of lies and deceit and ends up playing two versions of herself. This film bypasses angst and just goes straight for tragic despair. OMG, I love it.
And let's not forget Notorious. Kara's the daughter of an enemy of the state and agrees to become a spy. Lee's her cool and calm handler, but they soon fall in love only to find out that the mission is... Kara's got to hop back in the sack with an old flame to get info on thebaddies. OH, THE ANGST! HOW DO I LOVE THEE?

Date: 2010-03-11 04:28 pm (UTC)The Vertigo desc. is really interesting because it made me think: What if TWO KARAS came back after Maelstrom? Hee.

Date: 2010-03-11 04:34 pm (UTC)Ooooh... that is an interesting thought. In the film, she's still alive because she's an accomplice to the murder of the original wife-- she was just hired to play a part b/c she looked like her. But what she goes through when she finds Scotty (Lee) again is so, so horrible. She loves him and wants to let him know it's still her, but she can't. So she just goes along with his plan to turn her back into the woman she was imitating in the first place. And gods, all she wants is just to be loved for herself.
GAH-- just talking about it make me want to watch it RFN!

Date: 2010-03-11 04:35 pm (UTC)Hee hee hee. I actually just mentioned above how I'd love to see them as Cathy and Heathcliff in Wuthering Heights, whom I know you (and possibly Cosette?) have already compared them to. THAT would be some good angst!
