It's pretty easy to think of the aspects of the Kara/Lee relationship and Kara and Lee's individual personalities that we like, but what about the ones we dislike or have trouble with?

What aspects of the ship/characters do you have trouble writing?

These can be things you just don't plain like or simply aspects of the characters that you struggle with and thus tend to minimize.

I actually struggle whenever I have to write them truly fighting/hurting each other. And I procrastinate A LOT. Though conversely, it can be very fun to write a fast-paced argument with biting insults between them. So it's a weird juxtaposition--I loath it and drag my feet, but then usually when I'm doing it, it's not actually so bad. Lol.

I don't tend to write much action because I struggle with it, my brain wants shippy emotional bits not space battles, and yet, I like when they're being badass space pilots a whole hell of a lot.

Samsies. I just wanna go 'and then he thought this' 'and then she thought that' and 'then they both thought such and such' and never progress any plots. Which is pure self indulgence on my part, but it's so much easier than having them actually do stuff.

As someone who reads fic far more often than writes it, I have to say that I find it troubling to read stories where they are depicted as perfect and flawless. This doesn't happen very often, because we know they're flawed, but nonetheless. We know Kara is not perfectly obedient; we know Lee is not constantly happy, etc.

I'm not often interested in reading or writing about Kara's religiosity, mostly because I don't understand it at all.

That's all that comes to mind right now. :)

I struggle sometimes to write Kara's vulnerability in a canon/character compliant way. I dislike fics that give her a onesided harshness or make her too emotional without the appropriate backstory change. When writers do the groundwork of establishing the right circumstances, then more or less emotionality usually works fine for me.

In general, extremes are not that interesting, unless the extreme characterization is the point.

Other struggles include creating *just* the right circumstance to create a declaration of love or a crisis that will give pilots the opportunity to make a leap into trust or love. Those are very hard to write well, but when they happen, they create a wonderful payoff.

I'm too wordy in dialogue generally. Which isn't conducive to pilots at all. They are much more believable, though not very effective, with concise surgical cuts of words rather than long-winded declarations. It's always a battle to make "I love you forever and only you no matter what until the end of time" from "Yeah" or "Okay".

I struggle with writing the way they speak, sometimes - Kara more than Lee, since her speech patterns are a bit different from what I'm used to.

Like, a sentence emerges and I'm like - "NO WAY he/she'd ever say it like that, back to the delete button with you." Thankfully I don't write very often, but it does bother me when I see it in other fics too - them getting overly talky/spelling things out in words is never a good thing, for me.

And PapAdama/Tigh/Roslin etc also take some getting used to, like I need to watch an episode to familiarise myself with the way they speak.

I have a hard time writing Kara and Lee being hurtful to each other, walking away from each other or being cruel in the way they need to be sometimes. I don't write canon compliant much at all.
