Daily Pilots Post - Vids to Remember

These are two of my favorite pilots vids of all time, OF ALL TIME YO! (Are Kanye jokes seriously passe by now? Probably, right?) I'm embedding them here so we can group discuss them but I'm also posting links back to the makers' homepages too. Please go there and leave them feedback if you like the vids. It will surely mean a lot to them!  


OK, first, a romantic one.m_a_r_i_k_s' When You Say Nothing at All (to the Ronan Keating version of this song, which I'd never heard before being much more familiar with Allison Krauss's stunning version and the Keith Whitley original). This is a beautiful vid all about the way Kara and Lee eyefrak make eye contact throughout the series. I'm joking about the sexing/chemistry because their shared glances are really so much more than that. They're support and comfort and understanding and empathy and strength for each other without words. It's pure Love. These actors, man, they can do so much with just their eyes. It slays me every time.

Now, a fun/crack one! boom_queen's Speed Racer vid is just a hliarious and highly sexy (NSFW!! NSFW!!) vid with Kara as Speed Racer and Lee as his/her girlfriend Trixie. The cartoon voiceover sounds are just sidesplitting and the hard driving remix beat is excellent. This vid has an interesting pacing to it where it escalates and becomes super-fast at certain points and BQ keeps right up with every switch in the music. Mostly though, it's just so funny and hot you just have to watch it for the lulz. (Note: This embedded version is the old version of the vid, it was remastered at one point, but that's only available in downloadable form here.)

I don't get to watch vids much (finicky computer and small-fry-related interruptions), but I love the one set to "Set the Fire to the Third Bar", and the one to "Breathe" by Sia; and for fun the "Effortless-LEE" vid. :) (apologies for no linkage, they're currently on my old computer!)

And, though they're more gen, I also love Bop's "South Side vid, and Dualbunny's "Proud" vid.

This is SO difficult, because I have so many favorites, and they tend to change depending on my mood. Anyaway, one of my all-time favorites is "Surrender". The editing is flawless and Dido's "White Flag" is one of my pilots personal anthem :)

And another one I love because it never fails to put me in a good mood is "Strong Enough." It's an upbeat vid with no finale scenes (the field ones, I mean, there are some flashback bits, but I love those). This is all about pilots being awesome, and sexy and kickass and sweet :)

OK, and more just because. These two are Kara-centric ones but hope you don't mind ;)

First, dualbunny's "I am Not Dead," (http://dualbunny.livejournal.com/118215.html) This vid is so incredibly brilliant, I have no words to describe how much I love it. There’s something raw, emotional and poignant about the way she vids Kara in this vid that really touches me; it's pure Kara and Starbuck, and it makes me miss her so damn much. It's all about her S4 journey, and it has a redemptive quality to me... Every time I watch it, I can almost believe that Kara's ending was her triumph and her choice (besides, I must say that the entire Kara/Lee section is perfection, the vid really captures the epicness and inevitability of their relationship. And I even like the Kara/Sam bits here!!!). My piece of advice: download the quality version and watch it in full screen mode. It's totally worth it.

And the other one is taragel's "My Medea." OK, it's all Kara gen and there is no shipiness at all, but I love it (and so, I am reccing it). The editing is great --love how Tara interweaves the Maelstrom clips with the New Caprica/Leoben ones--, and the song, haunting as it is, it's perfect to portray this part of Kara's story. Very powerful and disturbingly beautiful. Oh, Kara!

I figured my recs to kick things off should be solely shippery, but I was very very sorely tempted to link to rayruz's brandy-new, just-posted-last-night vid featuring Kara, Everyone Becomes my Enemey (http://rayruz.livejournal.com/326090.html) because I think it's really amazing and fantastic. An instant favorite Kara vid, up there with Dualbunny's Pink trilogy. (One tiny caveat: the very end features the scene from the finale, BUT I think it fits perfectly in the vid and it didn't bother me because of that.)

Oh, I have yet to watch Ray's vid (I can't do such things at work LOL). Can't wait though! (I am really curious to see how she includes that bit from the finale). They didn't bother me much if they make sense and are fitting, actually --I must admit I was tempted to rec canadiangirl_86's "You Are Not Lost", which is all about the finale (and I find it gorgeous), but I've ended up not doing it because I didn't want to pour salt on the wound.

Thanks for the vid recs everyone! I love the romantic angsty ones. They break my heart, but I just watch them over and over again.

1) Spans the entire relationship chronologically (for the most part). It's painful and beautiful. It is my ALL TIME FAVE. Makes me cry.

I basically adore all of m_a_r_i_k_s's vids (although her name is kinda hard to spell :P) many of which are not specifically pilotcentric but I'd throw in "Canta Per Me" which ties in "Razor" and Kendra. And I love her vid called "Lift" which IS about PILOTS and how they lift each other and is GORGEOUS!

Also, though this is more Lee-specific, I have to throw out some love for bop_radar's "Middleman" - to me that is the QUINTESSENTIAL Lee vid.

Ahhh too many to choose from. I love all K/L vids in one way or another but the Speed Racer is probably my fav. It's just so cracktastic and fun and just a wee bit porny. :)

Anything by m_a_r_i_k_s is always a safe bet for an awesome vid. I have a serious love for mintenergy vids too. Great music, pacing, and effects.

I love the vid Surrender! The song White Flag is my K/L shipper creed. "I will go down with this 'ship." Never ever surrender on Kara/Lee. Nevah. :-)

This thread makes me so happy! I remember when I first got REALLY REALLY Hooked on the ship in S2 and suddenly I couldn't get enough of K/L stuff. And I DISCOVERED FANVIDS. Like literally I hadn't really ever heard about them before because I hadn't indulged in fandom like this since...before 2000 and I don't think fanvids were that big then. Anyway, late at night I would just cue up the ole' YouTube and watch vid after vid!! And usually weep because there was sadness and death coming! (I didn't care about spoilers).

Anyway, I'm going to go home tonight and watch/rewatch all of these. SO FUN.

YAY FOR HAPPY-MAKING PILOTS POSTS EVERY DAY! This is the best fandom idea I've ever had stole. (I say unmodestly.) I'm so happy you all have so much love for our peeps still and want to come and play and enjoy them. Please spread the word to other K/L fans who are just looking for a nice outlet for their squee!
