DPP: BSG Without Pilots

Hello, Shipper Nation, and welcome to this week's DPP!

Today's question is one that I suspect very few of us (self included) like to think about too often, or at all: what if there were no pilots?

BSG is a big show, with a massive cast to match. Our pilots, much as we love them and important as they were, were just two of those, and their story was one of many (still a big part of it, though). But what if they hadn't been part of the cast at all? What would that show have been like? I mean, think of a miniseries without this, for starters:




I guess the flipside of the question is, what do you think pilots brought to the show, and the story, that made them - and the show, with them - so special? And would you have taken an interest in BSG if they hadn't existed?

or there are shows where I get tired of ships after some time **coughBuffyandAngelcough** and every fresh sentimental reunion and angsty speech it makes me roll my eyes and go "yeah, yeah, give me a fag now." (edit: and this is after I stopped smoking!)

But pilots? Everyone else is a distraction because those two GO TOGETHER LIKE BLACKADDER AND LAUGHING. I'm amazed by how one-track I am for them, nothing can sway me.

Hee! That is why I ended up shipping coughBuffyandSpikecough. So much more interesting and more like pilots than the other cough-worthy couple. *prepares to be skewered* :P

I don't know if even our fandom shipwars have anything on the Buffy ones, lol. I liked her with pretty much all her love interests except Angel in the later stages (yes, even Riley) but think she's best off single. **prepares to abandom the subject quickly**

LOL. Thank the gods I wasn't around BSG for the awfulness of the shipwars. Ugh. Even thinking about it makes me cringe. I bet the Buffy ones, which I am sure still go on, are pretty fierce. I multiship Buffy with Angel and Spike, but prefer Spike. I would have been happy for her to end up with either. And I actually LOVED Spike's ending. *sigh*
