DPP: In Another Life
Feb. 23rd, 2012 09:43 amFor today's topic, we're going to explore AUs and pilots.
Imagine Lee and Kara on Earth, in modern times, and the Twelve Colonies, the Cylons, or Galactica had never happened. What do they do on Earth? How do they meet? Is it the same familiar, angst-ridden to get their act together, or is it easier because, this time, Zak isn't in the way?
Maybe it's the same universe that BSG introduced us to, but the Cylons never attacked the Colonies, or they tried but were unsuccessful. How does something like this change Lee and Kara's story? Would something like this make it easier or harder for them to be together?
Today is going to be formatted like Tuesday's DPP-- fic recs & discussion in one thread, prompting/writing in another. Of course, feel free to do a little of both, or step (or dive) into the writing pond even if you aren't a writer-- fic doesn't have to be very long, drabbles are always welcome!
Have at it! Happy Thursday, everyone!

Well, he could become a revolutionary soldier leading a charge, St. George slaying the dragon, Apollo flying across the sky in his golden chariot.

Date: 2012-02-23 06:44 pm (UTC)A Midwinter Day's Dream, PG, Pt1
Date: 2012-02-23 09:52 pm (UTC)She’s been staring him down from her crap seat ever since he’d come in that first day and she was no longer bothering to hide her irritation. She couldn’t work like this. Not while he just sat there all . . . there! No matter how hard she tried to concentrate on her poetry, she couldn’t get anything onto her screen worth even bothering to save. Who could write with the distraction of the sexiest man she’d ever seen as a constant presence in her peripheral. Gods, he was pure sex. She hated him. Her publisher was gonna have her ass if she didn’t have her next set of poems to him . . . she checked the date on her computer screen . . . oh . . . last month. Frak! After deleting another terrible line about ‘the maternal violence that demands greatness’ she threw her hands up in anger, growling loudly.
He looked up alarmed, but quickly away again when he noticed her icy glare. “That’s it” she decided, striding to him purposely and staring him down.
He appeared equal parts concerned and confused. “Ummm . . .” He ventured, “Hi?”
“What are you doing here?!” She barked.
He chuckled, “Apparently, bothering you with my very existence.”
She points at his seat. “I sit here. I always sit here.”
Nodding slowly, he smiles. “Are you kidding me?”
“No! Do I look like I’m kidding? I need to do my work and I can’t do it. . .” she gestures empathically towards where her belongings are angrily strewn, “. . . over there. I need this spot! This spot works. That spot is . . .” she sputters trying to come up with a description terrible enough to explain it, “it’s . . . it’s Saggitaron in the winter! It’s a holiday meal with your family! It’s the return of the frakking cylons!”
“OK! OK!’ He placates jumping up. “Sit here, please. Just . . . calm down OK?”
Shaking his guiding hand away, she begrudgingly sits.
“Listen,” he pleads, “I’m really sorry. I didn’t realize I was infringing on someone’s territory. I was just trying to get through some of the driest reading known to man and it didn’t seem likely that I’d be able to do so without an endless stream of hot running coffee which, my office doesn’t have.”
She crosses her arms stiffly, obviously not willing to forgive him yet.
“How about you let me buy you a cup of cof . . . tea.” He amends quickly, noting just how tense she is, “I think you could definitely use some tea.”

Date: 2012-02-23 09:52 pm (UTC)He bites his lip, thinking. “Pastry?”
“Already had four.”
Huffing in exasperation his gaze goes up as he struggled for an acceptable peace offering.
“Drink?” He ventures timidly.
She grins outright. Standing dramatically, she extends her hand in friendship. “Now you’re talking my language. I’m always more poetic when I’m lit and my favorite dive is just down the street. I’m Kara Thrace.”
Shaking her hand in relief, he beams. It nearly does her in.
“Lee Adama.” He says happily. “Are we being poetic today?”
“It’s what I do.” She gestures at her computer. “You?”
He runs his hand through his hair, ruffling it like a child. “Kinda the opposite. I’m a lawyer. I write briefs and other tragically un-poetic things.”
“Wow,” she rolls her eyes as she gathers her junk. “That’s really riveting, Lee.”
“Hey,” he chides, as he helps her into her coat. “We can’t all be struggling bohemians, you know? Someone has to buy your drinks.”
“After the torture you put me through this week? Damn right, someone does.” She tells him pointedly letting him know just who that someone was.
“Well, if it’s for art,” He grins holding the door for her, “How can I say no?”
Snorting, she gives him a knowing look before linking their arms as they walk out into the drizzling rain together, “You were never going to say no, Lee.”
Pulling his coat over them to protect their heads from the mist, he agrees, his voice dropping an octave, “No, I wasn’t.”
Slowing to a stop in the parking lot, she turns into him, biting her lip nervously. “Do you have liquor at your office?
“Yeah.” He nods leaning into her space, his voice husky. “Why?”
“Well,” she drawls, reaching up to finger his collar. “Maybe you could ‘inspire’ me there.”
He swallows thickly, before getting himself under control.
“Kara,” he promises as he drops his lips to hers, “Gimmie one night, you’ll be banging out sonnets like Shakespeare.”
“Well,” She cackles against his mouth. “The course of true love never did run smooth.”
