Happy Caturday, everybody, everywhere!

It's been a great week here at N_T. I've smirked, laughed, and cheered my way through a lot of amazing comments. You get two more days of my poking and prodding before the fabulous [livejournal.com profile] useyourlove takes command.

Previously on N_T:

In case you missed it, yesterday's comments included a thread on Kara as the Muad'Dib from Frank Herbert's Dune. That got me thinking about other crackfics and crossovers. So, shippers, today I ask you to tell us:

What are your favorite crackfics/ crossover fics? Are there any crossover/ crackfics that you want to see out there and haven't? What do you like about crossover fics as a writer or reader?

I second this rec. It's a great fic with a very interesting twist on the plot.

If I do recall correctly this was the fic that made me come here (on LJ I mean) and watch the movie. Again, great rec.

This is a phenomenal fic. I love every twist. It's the only fic that I've ever read that makes me WANT THE POOF. Yes, you heard me. :D:D:D

Crossovers I'd like to see: Clue (featuring an ensemble BSG cast!); A Life Less Ordinary; Run Lola Run; The Graduate.

The Graduate you say...? How about this to whet your appetite. ;P

I've only written some Bingo ficlets in crossovers, but off the top of my head, I'd love to see (or to be pointed to):
X-Files
Firefly
Katherine Kerr Daggerspell novels
And yes... SPN (I am determined to write pilot Vampire Hunters one of these days.)

(The good thing about BSG, is that there's the very 'real' side of it that can be crossed over with any political/criminal/current affair/war genre show, as well as spiritual/ethereal and sci-fi.)

From: [identity profile] kl-shipper1.livejournal.com
I'd probably die if I saw an SPN/BSG crossover just from the sheer awesomeness of those two combined. Then I'd resurrect myself so I could actually read it :D

The Stormy Present (http://musesfool.livejournal.com/1594160.html) - it's a Dean/Kara fic with barely a mention of Lee but she's a great author and Dean and Kara (and Sam Winchester) out hunting bad things is beautiful.

Crossovers are hard, yo! At least for this writer. I just don't "get" them very well and tend to just take the essential elements of a movie (like fight club) and make up my own story to fit it into the BSG universe.

I do have an idea for Adjustment Bureau/BSG crossover and actually have it mostly mapped out. SOMEDAY! ;) [livejournal.com profile] reelpilots will be having another crossover ficathon (summertime?) and I will try to write it then. :) YAY!

My favorite crossover is probably Aegis (http://users.livejournal.com/wisteria_/993982.html) by [livejournal.com profile] wisteria_ which crosses Law & Order: UK with BSG and features SMOKING HOT SEX and that undeniable pilot connection. SO AMAZING!

Ooh, I would love to see an Adjustment Bureau/BSG crossover, now that I think about it! Now you've got me all excited for summer... :D

And I adore Aegis like crazy! It was from reading that fic that I discovered I really like Kara/Matt, but I've never seen that pairing written anywhere else, unfortunately. (And now I'm going to have to go reread it again...)

There has to be a DW crossover in which the poof is explained via Timelord tech, right?

And once upon a time there was an epic Doctor Who/Life on Mars crossover fic that had the Doctor saving Sam or something...I never finished it because I started it before I ever watched LOM and then didn't come back to it...but a LOM/Ashes type fic in which our Pilots could be reunited would be lovely. Or in which the series was the alternate reality...although that's been done with Irreplaceabilty.... It sounded better in my head :)

I just read the thread on Dune from yesterday. Why hadn't anybody thought of it before? So, perfect.

Date: 2012-01-21 06:14 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] scifishipper.livejournal.com
Dune is my FAVORITE series of all time and I have thought about how to integrate it with BSG. The problem, of course, is that Dune is COMPLETELY massive! I didn't see the discussion yesterday and I'll have to check it out. Maybe there are some ideas that will spark something specific to grab on to. :)

ETA: Ah, yes, I see the thread now. I think the problem I've always had is that one would have to change the Chani's death to make it stomachable for me. Instead of that, I think it would actually be compelling to cast Lee as Muad'Dib and to cast Kara as Duncan Idaho, who is revived time and time again to torment and influence the path of Paul's life. Chani is interesting, of course, but her power over Paul faded and her memory barely survived the third book. Kara as Duncan Idaho, whom Paul actually loved above all others (to his peril) is a wonderful story. In that light, I suppose Kara could be Muad'Dib and Lee cast as Duncan Idaho, but that's still problematic.

INTERESTING and now I shall think on it. I would probably die of joy if this was pulled off. :)

For BSG crack, it's hard to beat fahye's Benevolent Sibling (http://fahye-fic.livejournal.com/31848.html) (BSG as the Cylons' personally orchestrated reality TV show).

I love both writing and reading crossovers. I think my favorites in this fandom are [livejournal.com profile] innibis's six Frakked-Up Fairytales (http://innibis.livejournal.com/?skip=10&tag=fairytale) (The Frog Prince, Rapunzel, Cinderella, Six Swans [my favorite!], Beauty and the Beast, & Alladin). They are just gorgeously realized alternate worlds.

All the fairy-tales are great but except Six Swans with is my favorite also, I really liked the end to Alladin. OMGs - Baltar in that one is just... too funny.

It's is often declared in many's Best Kara/Lee fics ever - a must read for everyone who loves K/L. Other Must Reads are on the Shipping Essentials (http://no-takebacks.livejournal.com/tag/shipping%20essentials) page of N_T if you haven't read it (all of the recs are in the comments). I think it has a few other cracky fic as well. :)

I'm in a very crossover-y period in my fic writing of late and even started [livejournal.com profile] reelpilots because it sounded like THE BEST IDEA EVER! lol.

Sadly, it hasn't panned out so well. :( But I do want to have another round if people are game. Not sure how to ensure we actually follow through with writing and posting though. Maybe more time built into schedule (although there was nearly four months this time--which...yeah.)

Anyway I love both the short cracky crossovers like [livejournal.com profile] pressdbtwnpages fun The Cylon Bride (http://reelpilots.livejournal.com/10635.html) (a Princess Bride crossover) and the longer intense ones as well, like the ones has done with various Whedon properties. Her dollhouse/reincarnation fic, Did I Fall Asleep? (http://tulipfic.livejournal.com/tag/%21story%3A%20did%20i%20fall%20asleep), where Kara's a doll and Lee is her handler is one of my all-time favorites! And the Hunger Games crossover she wrote, Fight the Break of Dawn (http://tulipfic.livejournal.com/63004.html), with both Kara/Lee and Kat/Gale is also another favorite. I can't really decide between them! She's my favorite crossover writer of all time, yo! The details are always so right and the voices are spot-on. Just love. <3

Other faves:

[livejournal.com profile] howlinchickhowl's When You're All Alone in a Lonely Room (http://pilots-presents.livejournal.com/23541.html#cutid1), a dirty dancing crossover!

the WIP Dark Angel/BSG crossover, Keeping a Secret (http://wesgibson.livejournal.com/22219.html), by [livejournal.com profile] wesgibson --fantastic backstory especially on Lee, Kara and Helo being soldiers for Manticore

[livejournal.com profile] queenofthorns' FNL/BSG crossovers (although she never got to the really pilot-y parts sadly!) CYLLON HIGH (http://queenofthorns.livejournal.com/tag/fic:%20cyllon%20high) So hilarious. SIX!

that's another great fic just like the Dirty Dancing cross. I'm sorry to admit that i didn't managed t read the Hunger Games one because I still didn't read the book (And yes, I do blame RL for it).

BTW, someone should rec your crosses. they're just great. super sweet, true to the original movies and BSG.

YES! [livejournal.com profile] taragel's The Cutting Edge (http://taragel.livejournal.com/132069.html) is an all-time fave -- Kara and Lee as figure skaters, but even on ice the course of true love never did run smooth. It's utterly charming and joyous.

I also adore her Secretly Superman (http://taragel.livejournal.com/168679.html), which had me keeled over laughing just from the sheer sound of the dialogue. Wonderful!
